Good Day! And welcome to the Career Center’s fall newsletter. Featured in this newsletter are
four activities that the Career Center Team has been actively engaged in (both HQ and National
Career Centers are featured), including our number of hired Veterans and our community
outreach. Please draw your attention to our featured employer of the quarter, whose selfless
donation will allow for us to further assist our female veterans.
QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER
QUARTERLY VETERAN PROFILE
Quiana Watts, a retired Naval Petty Officer 2nd
Class, came to us from a local women homeless
shelter, transitioning from San Diego to Tulare with
no pre-established resources, and had no access to
a computer/laptop at the women’s shelter or
reliable transportation to potential interviews.
Through the AMVETS Career Center in Tulare, CA,
Ms. Watts was able to move into an apartment via
a Veteran Shelter organization, and will also have
her first six months of rent paid for. She utilized
the computer lab at the local Career Center and
was able to find two jobs that will assist her with
expenses until she is able to find a career in her
desired field of Computer Technician and web
building.
“The AMVETS Career Center has been paramount
in my success with getting back on my feet after a
rough time. I was able to use the computer lab to
submit resumes to employers and landed a job in
less than two weeks. I was also able to get business
interview clothing, help with perfecting my
resume, bus passes to help me get to and from
interviews, and the emotional support from an
AMAZING team of people who really care about
Veterans. This is the BEST AMVETS office I have
ever seen, overall! I know that because of all the
assistance I have received here, I will continue to
be successful. Thank you AMVETS for all you do
for the Vets.”

COMMUNITY PARTNERS’ DAY
On September 2nd
, we held our quarterly
Community Partners’ Day on the DC campus of
the AMVETS educational partner, University of
Phoenix. There were two employers that came
out to speak with our Service Members on the
necessities of a good resume, and worked with
those in attendance on how to best structure
their resume, catering to the specific industries
that the two employers in attendance,
represented. Needless to say, we will continue to
foster a relationship with these employers, Doc
Massard from Northrop Grumman, and Andrea
Hall from Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC),
as we collectively work to lower the Veteran
unemployment rate.
FEATURED EMPLOYER
The Military Base and Event Recruiter for First Data,
Keri Barnes, graciously delivered these articles of
clothing to our office because as a military spouse
she understands what women in and around the
military community do not have as many
opportunities as the men in the military community.
This is exactly what the Career Center exemplifies,
and why we are more than proud to have Keri and
her organization as a partner and friend of the
AMVETS Career Centers nationwide.
AMVETS CAREER CENTER:
NUMBERS SPEAK LOUDER
THAN WORDS
The AMVETS Career Center is funded by The Call
of Duty Endowment. Part of the stipulations for
the grant was for all the centers across the
country to place 250 Service Members into new
jobs by the end of the year, with a percentage
requirement of full-time job placements being
75%. The Career Centers across the country
have placed over 232 Veterans in employment
with over 94.2% of the jobs being full-time.
We are well on our way to fulfilling this
requirement and helping more Service Members
find new careers, and look to continue this great
work into next year.

NS2 SERVES’ MISSION TO EMPOWER THE MILITARY COMMUNITY
NS2 Serves is an organization that pays for past and present Service Members and Gold Star spouses to
obtain their Systems Applications and Products (SAP) certification. Upon acceptance into the program,
NS2 Serves pays to bring in the Service Members to the National Conference Center in Leesburg, VA for
three months and they provide housing and meals. NS2 entrusted the AMVETS Career Center Program
with the privilege to come in and instruct their class of twenty-two Service Members on best practices
regarding their resumes and interview skills. Over a two-day, two-part workshop event, Career Center
Coaches worked one on one with the Service Members. After the workshops the Service Members will
continue to receive assistance from the AMVETS Career Center Coaches. AMVETS would like to thank NS2
Serves organization for choosing us as their point of reference for their students, and we look to continue
this relationship in the future.
