OSFair2017 Theatrical Workshop | Nucleus H2020 EU projectOpen Science Fair
Alexandros Koukovinis & Menelaos Sotiriou present the Nucleus H2020 project.
Workshop abstract:
This workshop highlights the concept of a Support and Coordination H2020 action, namely NUCLEUS, which is targeted on Responsible Research and Innovation. It is aligned with the overall objective of the OSFair conference, answering to the impact of open science/novel ways of disseminating science.
What NUCLEUS project introduces, is that based on a common understanding that science and innovation are driving forces of sustainable and inclusive societies around the world, it will develop new cultural and organisational approaches allowing universities to better respond and react to societal needs and challenges. To pursue this goal NUCLEUS will develop, support and implement inclusive and sustainable approaches to “Responsible Research and Innovation” (RRI) within the governance and culture of European universities and research organisations.
A wide scale implementation roadmap and a future of science with and for the society will be presented in the most engaging way.

Existing 3D printing technologies are rather expensive or not applicable for functional parts production. Our technology is a revolutionary solution combining low equipment price typical for personal plastic printers with capability of producing high performance structural elements.

Eu - Innovative practices in education for sustainable development - oct 2008Andrea Vitali
The European Strategy for Sustainable Development recognises the important role that education and training systems should play in order to achieve the objectives of sustainable development. Education and training should contribute to all three axes of sustainable development, namely the social, economic and environmental dimensions. The aim of this study was to prepare an inventory of innovative good practices for the purpose of stimulating exchange of good and innovative practices in education for sustainable development. The study has been commissioned by the European Commission, DG Education and Culture, Unit A2Lifelong Learning: Creativity and Innovation. The inventory illustrates how the concept of Sustainable Development has been translated and implemented in educational and training programmes in formal, informal and non-formal contexts.

Governmental and Institutional strategies to support new ways of teaching and...EADTU
The presentation includes strategies at governmental and institutional level for the uptake of new modes of teaching and learning. It includes recommendations by the EU published Changing Pedagogical Landscape study and the EMPOWER programme by EADTU.
Based on contributions by Jeff Haywood (University of Edinburg, George Ubachs(EADTU) and Piet Henderikx (EADTU).
CAMEI aims to coordinate research activities and policies towards the development of renewed educational material and programs, to boost new trends for acquiring new knowledge in respect of the implementation of eHealth systems in practice, foster trans-national access to research infrastructures from both EU and USA partners and establish a network of best practices in Medical Education Informatics. The partners of CAMEI are experts in providing IT skills to healthcare workforce by means of different technologies and learning approaches.
2. NICHE‐ETH‐023
METHODOLOGY
The STRONGBOE project has been constructed to fully
take into account the four cross‐cutting themes
supported by the NICHE programme: (a) focus on
gender; (b) response to labour market; (c) use of local
expertise; and (d) organisational learning. The basic
approach of “exposure, networking and sharing”
embodies the concept of the Ethiopian beneficiaries
being linked, in a reciprocal way, to institutions in
Europe and within the region (South Africa), in order to
build capacity through learning from proven, positive
experience. The project strategy has been designed
entirely around the principle of sustainability: staff
training (including 10 PhDs and 100 MScs); gender
balancing; continuous professional development;
ownership in terms of management and organisation;
establishing demand‐driven research and linkages with
stakeholders; investments in the key area of (eco)
tourism, based on sound natural resource
management; catering to labour market needs and the
involvement of the private sector.
EXPECTED RESULTS
The overall expected impacts can be summarised under
four clusters as follows:
University training and research programs will
be upgraded through multi‐disciplinary, gender‐
sensitive and market oriented plans. Curricula
will be reviewd and adjusted alongthis line.
University staff will be trained (10 PhDs, 100
MSc) and their research and instructional skills
improved, paying specific attention to gender.
Universities will have their business plans
developed, policies on income generation
activities endorsed and various income
generation activities set up based on demand‐
driven external service provision .
An operational network platform will be
established steered by an advisory board, with
representatives of the private sector, non‐
governmental and governmental organizations
as acting members.
