Improving Maternal and Neonatal Health in Kassala State: Strengthening Primar...dinasami5071
1) The document summarizes baseline surveys conducted in two localities in Kassala State, Sudan to assess knowledge, attitudes and practices of women regarding reproductive health issues.
2) The surveys found that women's knowledge of danger signs during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period was low. Antenatal care focused more on routine checks than identifying women at risk.
3) Family planning knowledge and access was also limited, with most women only aware of oral contraceptives. Knowledge of HIV transmission and testing was even lower.
RMNCH+A strategy: Reproductive, Maternal, neonatal, child and Adolescent Health Gaurav Kamboj
This document provides an overview of the RMNCH+A strategy in India. It discusses the historical background and goals of reducing maternal and child mortality. The key challenges include operating the different components vertically and strengthening adolescent health. Major causes of maternal and child deaths in India are hemorrhage, sepsis, abortion for mothers and pneumonia, preterm birth and sepsis for under-5 children. The strategy aims to address these across various life stages through interventions like adolescent nutrition programs, skilled birth attendance, emergency obstetric care, and postnatal care for mothers and newborns. It also discusses strengthening the health system to deliver comprehensive RMNCH+A services and monitoring progress.
This document summarizes and evaluates two projects - "Mother and Child Health Network" and "Facilities Advancement and Referral Enhancement" - that aimed to improve mother and child healthcare in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. The projects empowered 5 local mother-child healthcare facilities, created an ambulance service and referral network, and expanded facilities at Ruaraka Uhai Neema Hospital. Continuous monitoring and evaluations from internal and external perspectives helped identify issues and ensure targets were met. Recommendations from evaluations led to improvements like increasing visibility of healthcare providers and engaging community health volunteers.
The document provides an evaluation report of MSF's emergency response to Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in November 2014. It finds that while the response was generally well-perceived, some operational centers were slower than others in beginning medical services. Specifically, the first MSF consultations were 6 days after the emergency and surgical services started after 2 weeks. Additionally, the report notes differences in budgets between operational centers and questions the value of some very low levels of surgical activities. Overall, the response effectively covered many rural areas and MSF played an important coordination role, but there is still room for improvement in the timeliness and consistency of responses across operational centers.

It emphasizes that evaluation is important as it shows the direction of change and helps learning from experience. It outlines the key actors involved in evaluation at the Commission, including the Evaluation Unit. The Commission is working to develop a culture of evaluation and learning. The evaluation policy focuses on continuous professional development, an evidence-based approach, and having specialized evaluation professionals in delegations. The Commission's project cycle includes programming, formulation, implementation, closure and follow-up. Key stages involve monitoring, possible mid-term evaluations, and closure reporting which may include evaluation. Methodologies focus on reconstructing intervention logic, focusing evaluations on clear questions, and drawing pertinent conclusions. Strategies include
