ROTAVAP FLASKSBench Scale
For safely and efficiently evaporating solvents from a sample, high-quality heavy wall glass evaporating and
receiving flasks are essential. Evaporating flasks can be either spherical or pear shaped. A pear shaped flask
offers greater surface area over a spherical flask, therefore allowing for faster evaporation rates. Indented
spherical evaporating flasks are for the drying of powder-like materials and cannot be used under vacuum.
When evaporating, solvent collection rates can be determined by using graduated receiving tubes and
bottles. These receivers can easily be fitted onto existing rotary evaporators and are graduated in milliliters.
For an extra layer of safety, poly-coated flasks may be used to decrease the possibility of shrapnel in the
event of an implosion when operating under deep vacuum. Poly-coated flasks are not recommended for
use above 121°C, as the coating will soften and become less protective.
