Extreme Networks is established by Gordon Stitt,
Herb Schneider, and Stephen Haddock with its first
offices located in Cupertino, CA. The three LAN
switching industry veterans target the development
of third-generation LAN switches based on
emerging Gigabit Ethernet technology.

BlackDiamond Chassis-Based
Gigabit Ethernet Layer 3 Switch

The addition of BlackDiamond makes Extreme the
only company to offer an enterprise LAN solution
with Policy-Based Quality of Service and wire-speed
Layer 2/Layer 3 switching from the desktop to the
network core. BlackDiamond provides up to 32
Gigabit Ethernet ports or up to 256 10/100 Mbps
ports - the highest density in the industry.

Extreme Advances Ethernet with
New 10 Gigabit Technology

Extreme is the first to market with 10 Gigabit
Ethernet Switch. Extreme Networks has been at the
forefront in the development of standardized 10
Gigabit Ethernet switching. The Company's co-
founder and CTO, Steve Haddock, serves as the vice-
chair of the IEEE 802.3ae task force, the group, which
has developed the industry standard for 10 Gigabit
Ethernet. Tony Lee of Extreme Networks served as
the 10GEA's president over a two-year period
beginning in March 2000; and another Extreme
Networks’ technologist, Ameet Dhillon, serves on the
10GEA board of directors.
