This document discusses promoting extensive reading within an access program. It defines extensive reading as reading large amounts of materials for general understanding without additional tasks. The benefits of extensive reading include providing language input, promoting learner autonomy, developing reading habits, and fostering other skills. Successful extensive reading programs feature choice of materials, variety of texts, and monitoring of student progress. The presenter evaluates existing opportunities for extensive reading and compares them to best practices.
