“We are old enough to stay home alone”
Teenagers; we are still children. We still need the guidance and supervision of adults.
Below are reasons why we shouldn’t be allowed to stay home alone.
11-13 year olds. We may seem mature and responsible but when put into situations
where there is a significant amount of freedom; that can fly out the window! You
would think that once we become teenagers, we have learnt how to be responsible
and handle ourselves. Unfortunately that is not always the case. Many teens have
maturity ages of 5 year olds so to leave them home alone - not a good idea.
Secondly; drugs and alcohol. Many homes have these items. They are made and
designed for adults. Our bodies are not equipped to handle those harsh items and
won’t be for a quite a while so if we consume them now, we won’t be thankful. We
wouldn’t be allowed to drink or consume them with a parents around so why should
teenagers have that option when left home alone?
Next; when we are left home alone - we run wild. All sorts of events take place;
parties, binge eating and that is just the beginning! When adrenaline becomes
present, all chaos breaks lose. Whatever common sense we have just disappears.
So when left home alone, without adults to guide us - situations can end badly.
Teenagers don’t always handle the situation well and being left home alone without
adults can lead to disaster.
Overall, I strongly believe that us, as teenagers being left home alone is not a good
idea. We may look responsible and mature but when left alone; we can act like 5
year olds. Drugs and alcohol are a huge problem. Adults will leave them out in the
open and that will tempt us. If we aren’t left alone - we won’t have that temptation.
Finally; the handling of situations. Teenagers aren’t always the best at handling tricky
situations so being left alone without an adult’s guidance is not the best idea.
Teenagers are teenagers, we do what we like and can’t always be trusted so we still
need adults. We shouldn’t be allowed to stay home alone and that rule needs to be
enforced.
