Daniel Faierman conducted a literature review on social contagion from behavioral and emotional perspectives for his undergraduate thesis. The review explored prior research on emotional and behavioral contagion, phenomena first observed in crowd behavior, in an attempt to develop a conceptual framework for understanding social contagion. While research on social contagion has yielded many findings, a consistent framework agreed upon by psychologists is still lacking. The review revealed gaps in differentiating concepts like learning theory from contagion, but successfully showed how understanding social contagion can provide value and pointed to future research needed to establish a comprehensive framework.
