This document discusses different types of graphs for describing data distributions: relative frequency histograms show the percent of counts in each bin while cumulative relative frequency histograms called ogives show the cumulative percents; time plots display observations over time with the horizontal axis always being time and can reveal trends over multiple observations.

Relative Frequency
• Relative Frequency refers to graphing the
percent of the counts in each bin
• Cumulative Relative Frequency refers to
graphing the CUMULATIVE PERCENTS of the
counts in each bin
• The histogram of a cumulative relative
frequency is call an OGIVE (pronounced o-jive)

3. Time Plots
• Display observations taken over time
• Horizontal (x) axis is always time and the
variable is on the vertical (y) axis
• Reveal trends or changes over time (think
stock market graphs)
