The process of applying constructive feedback presents a significant learning curve for managers of all stripes. While an approach to management through radical candor has provided a powerful framework for building thoughtful teams ready to engage in the rigor of high achievement, a significant challenge is still presented to those whose roles are defined more so by driving changes to operations rather than managing a particular function.
Our modern economy demands that we train more and more managers to adopt the mindset, demeanor, and skills of great change managers in addition to project management or traditional management skills. No longer are managers asked to simply adopt a post within a hierarchy and lead teams with skills and a mission bound by a traditional functional role. Today, more managers are being asked to bring together diverse stakeholder constituencies to execute infrequent projects with high stakes outcomes, many of which call for organizations -- or associations of organizational leaders with competing interests -- to make critical changes to their operations and, subsequently, aspects of their culture.
In these environments, managers like us have significant constraints on their time, capacity to build reciprocal relationships, and authority over individual actors. Yet, at the same time, we are required to persuasively communicate the need for changes that will affect the long-term outcomes for our colleagues and our organizations. This requires the capacity for managers to master a feedback process in which they listen, seek to clarify and understand their colleagues, while also offering a compelling argument for the adoption of a new direction or set of practices. This process requires managers who can exemplify excellence in culture-building as well as providing feedback with individual members. We call this process managing "The Tide".
There is no doubt about the importance of automated frameworks in the Agile environment and as part of the day-to-day testing process. These are some insights to guide any automation project.
Agile software development is probably the most common methodology used by organizations today, as such; many people have started to ask more and more questions about this methodology that sometimes based on wrong assumptions.
In this presentation, I will review the most common Myths and Misconceptions that I encounter during agile training courses, hopefully, to help people to divide the truth from the assumptions.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has made substantial investments in meeting evolving scientific, technical, and policy driven demands on storing, managing, and delivering data. As these demands continue to grow in complexity and scale, the USGS must continue to explore innovative solutions to improve its management, curation, sharing, delivering, and preservation approaches for large-scale research data. Supporting these needs, the USGS has partnered with the University of Chicago-Globus to research and develop advanced repository components and workflows leveraging its current investment in Globus. The primary outcome of this partnership includes the development of a prototype enterprise repository, driven by USGS Data Release requirements, through exploration and implementation of the entire suite of the Globus platform offerings, including Globus Flow, Globus Auth, Globus Transfer, and Globus Search. This presentation will provide insights into this research partnership, introduce the unique requirements and challenges being addressed and provide relevant project progress.

ONE OF THE MAIN ACTIVITIES OF AN
SM IS TO REMOVE IMPEDIMENTS
FROM THE TEAM.
THE SM SHOULD HAVE THE
RELEVANT SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND
EXPERIENCE TO REMOVE ANY
OBSTACLES FROM THE TEAM DURING
THE DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES.
5. A GREAT EDUCATOR
THE SM SHOULD HAVE THE ABILITY TO
EDUCATE PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO WORK IN THE
SCRUM FRAMEWORK.
THIS IS NOT ONLY FOR THE TEAM, BUT THE
SM SHOULD BE PROACTIVE AND EDUCATE
MANY PERSONNEL IN THE ORGANIZATIONS.
THIS PERSONNEL CAN BE THOSE WHO EITHER
SUPPORT THE PROCESS OR ALTERNATIVELY
WANT TO LEARN ABOUT AGILE AND IN
PARTICULAR SCRUM.
6. HAVE THE TIME TO DO IS JOB
AS PART OF HIS DAY-TO-DAY WORK, THE SM NEEDS
TO OBSERVE THE TEAM’S PERFORMANCE BASED ON HIS
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES.
THIS INCLUDES COMMUNICATION WITHIN THE TEAM
AND OUTSIDE (PO), PROVIDING THE ENVIRONMENTAL
ARTIFACTS ALLOWING THE TEAM TO GROW,
ENFORCEMENT OF THE SCRUM PROCESS, ETC.
THIS IS JUST A PARTIAL LIST OF THE SM ACTIVITIES,
BUT BASED ON IT, WE CAN UNDERSTAND THAT THE SM
MUST BE THERE FOR THE TEAM ON A DAY-TO-DAY
BASIS.
THERE ARE NO MAGICAL SOLUTIONS, THE ROLE
DEMANDS A LOT OF INVESTMENT (BOTH WITHIN THE
TEAM AND EXTERNALLY)
7. FOCUS ON THE TEAM INSTEAD OF TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS
THE SM IS NOT RESPONSIBLE TO PROVIDE
TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS. THUS, HE DOES
NOT HAVE TO BE THE MOST TECHNICAL
PERSON ON THE TEAM.
THE MAIN REASON IS THAT HIGHLY
TECHNICAL PEOPLE ARE THE TEAM
SPECIALISTS. THEY WILL FIND IT RELATIVELY
DIFFICULT TO FOCUS ON THE PROCESS AND
THE TEAM. THIS IS THE MAIN
RESPONSIBILITY RELATED TO THIS ROLE.
8. MASTERING IS ROLE

MASTER SHOULD BE AN EXPERT IN HIS
FIELD.
A GREAT SCRUM MASTER WILL ALWAYS

THE MAIN ROLE OF THE SCRUM
MASTER IS TO COACH THE TEAM AND
ANY OTHER STAKEHOLDERS (PRODUCT
OWNER, TL’S ETC.) WITH AGILE.
A GREAT SCRUM MASTER HAS THE
PERSONALITY TO WORK WITH OTHERS
AND COACHING THEM WITH PLEASURE

TO THE SUCCESS OF THE TEAM.
IT WILL ENABLE THEM TO PERFORM

A GREAT SM MUST UNDERSTAND IT AND

AND THEIR CHANCES TO SUCCEED WITH THE
PROJECT GOALS.
15. SELF AND KEEN LEARNER
AS AN EDUCATOR, COACH OR
TRAINER, THE SM SHOULD SET AN
EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS AS A KEEN
LEARNER.
THAT IS THE MINIMUM EXPECTATION
THAT WE WANT TO SEE IN THE PERSON
THAT HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY TO
EDUCATE PEOPLE ACROSS THE
ORGANIZATION, EVEN MORE THAN
HIMSELF.

EXTERNALLY).
THIS WILL ASSIST HIM TO PROMOTE BOTH PERSONAL
GOALS AND THE TEAM TO SUCCEED IN PERFORMING
THEIR WORK.

SCRUM MASTER SHOULD HAVE THE SKILLS
TO RESOLVE A PROBLEM THAT ARISES IN
THE DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES AND THE
ABILITY TO INNOVATE NEW WAYS TO HELP
THE TEAM TO INCREASE THEIR
KNOWLEDGE, PRACTICES, AND EFFICIENCY.
21. A SERVANT LEADER
THE SM SHOULD SERVE THE TEAM, PO, THE
ORGANIZATION, AND NOT HIMSELF.
HE SHOULD LEAD BY EXAMPLE (AND NOT BY
TITLE) AND STICK WITH THE TEAM DURING BAD
AND GOOD TIMES.
