Website performance ends with users, but it begins with programmers. Learn how you can improve web performance with Gulp, Sass, Browserify and a number of plugins.
The Strange DOM: Or How I Stopped Learned to Stop Worrying and Test for Acces...Trevor Pierce
A lot of Javascript gets tested, but DOM interactions and accessibility are often left to human testers. This talk reviews different testing strategies and outlines my take on automated tests for front-end development.
With the advent of html5, css3, Microformats and wai-aria we now have the ability to design our web applications with a semantic richness that can help bridge the gap between human and computer readability and make the web a more accessible place.
Unfortunately, despite the advancements of the web standards movement, many of us largely ignore or misunderstand front-end technologies.
Can we take pride in being called “craftsmen” if we continue to hastily construct the most public facing ends of our software, with code viewable by anyone!?
As craftsmen, we owe our namesakes to our willingness to go beyond the status quo. Our applications should be designed and built in such a way that they are usable, accessible, and responsive—front-end and back, for as many people/devices as possible.
As a User Experience craftsman, I view s.c.n.a. as an opportunity to help my developer colleagues better understand html5, css3 and basic client-side design principles in the spirit of working together toward a more meaningful web.
Danny Banks - Building consistent Cross-Platform interfaces - Codemotion Amst...Codemotion
When building interfaces, it can be challenging to keep styles consistent across multiple platforms, devices, teams, and codebases. Design tokens are a single source of truth that provide a way to share design and style information anywhere. In this talk you will learn about how to use design tokens to synchronize your styles across any platform, device, framework, or tool.
At a number of past AusNOG conferences we've seen Google and Facebook make a number of presentations about how they've automated the operatonal deployment, monitoring and troubleshooting in their networks.
They've been really interesting presentations. However, I've wondered how applicable their level of automation really is to the rest of us with much smaller networks. We don't and most of us will never have the scale problems they do.
I've changed my mind. I think Google's and Facebook's level of operational automation is inevitable for all networks. If automation is performed by robots, then I think robots are coming to networks everywhere.
In this presentation, I'll talk about why I've changed my mind. More practically, I'll introduce some of the basic building block tools of "robot building" that can be used to build some trivial yet still quite useful operational automation. These tools can then be used as a basis to build more advanced automation. Finally, I'll talk a bit about the possible "post automation" future in networks.
Working with addresses is a problem for many Irish businesses. In this presentation I set out a number of tips that can help to minimise these problems.

Building a Single Page Application using Ember.js ... for fun and profitBen Limmer
Denver Startup Week 2015 Talk. The talk is split into two sections: conceptual reasons you might choose a framework like EmberJS where convention over configuration is preferred, and a live coding demo where we build a simple EmberJS application for our up-and-coming business, Bluth's Banana Stand.
Talk from The Web Is in Cardiff, October 2014 exploring the business case for web performance, and some of the underlying factors that can make sites slow
Sooner or later we all have to work with HTML, despite its verbosity. Those of us who claim to love HTML may just be victims of Stockholm Syndrome, both praising yet secretly loathing it.
Basho designer John Newman is making the trek from the swamps of Florida to show us the way. In the modern world of markup preprocessors, these alternative syntaxes allow you to write simpler, cleaner, more concise code in a shorter amount of time. Certain techniques can even allow your team members who may be less-tech-savvy to contribute content directly without forcing you to wire up a WYSIWYG style CMS.
This talk explores great alternatives to plain HTML and CSS, and covers how Basho put these tools together to facilitate a painless, team-oriented approach to building sites and web apps.
A talk on front-end developer tools including Yeoman, Grunt.js, Require.js, Bower, and SASS given at Drupal Camp LA 2013.
This talk doesn't address Drupal specifically, but it was aimed to give the audience of drupal developers a look into the state of the art.
Making the case for the consideration of network topologies on the performance of UI technologies, and presenting some sample measurements across traditional SAP GUI, WebDynpro for ABAP, and the UI5-based Fiori apps.

eact is a library for building HTML user interfaces. It is the "view" in a Model-View-Controller application. Created by the UI wizards at Facebook, top websites like Instagram, Netflix, Airbnb, Bleacher Report and Feedly use it. React is the 6th most starred project on GitHub and grows more popular every day.
In this two-day workshop, we will introduce you to React. On the first day, we will work through a series of increasingly more complicated tutorial exercises. Along the way, we will explain concepts like JSX, immutability, statefulness, one-way data flow, components, and virtual DOM.
With the basics out of the way, we will spend the second-day building a complex application which will put React through its paces and give us a chance to explore most of its features. Then we will learn how to think in React. We will show you how to go from design to components to working application. We will wrap the weekend with a quick preview of React Native, which allows you to use your React skills to create cross-platform mobile apps.
The slides for my SproutCore presentation called "Pronounced S-pro-ut-Co-re" in which I introduce this web client-side framework for cloud applications. It's strong and weak points. Demo some code and apps and why you should keep an eye on it.
This talk outlines why I believe that Ember solves many of the problems that we face as browser developers today. We aim to build rich dynamic applications, and some of the time we fail. Ember helps reduce friction by providing the right features at the right time. In particular, the router.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.
