This technology could be highly advantageous to residential buildings due to increased carpet
space. Buildings are occupied sooner in up to half the time of conventional construction. Huge

Jammu comes under Seismic Zone-4, and as such earthquake, resistant structures are a
necessity. Steel due to its ductility can absorb earthquake shocks and energy. Since the overall
weight of the building is one-fourth that of a conventional brick and mortar building, it remains
unaffected during an earthquake.

FIELD HOSTEL.
CHAMBA
Chamba, situated in a remote hilly region where temperature fall below -4DC, was the site of
our field hostel constructed for GMR. Erection took place during snowfall which was possible

Our auditorium in the DSRC Building, Rajokari is a particular achievement in LSF construction

BYRON HOUSE.
NOTTINGHAM STUDENT ACCOMMODATION
Byron House is an award-winning accommodation scheme in the heart of Nottingham
city centre. P.A.W.'s light gauge steel frame expertise enabled the eye-catching and
imaginative designs to take shape.
Situated in a vibrant urban environment just minutes away from the c ity's academic facilities, Byron
House is a 911-bed student scheme that incorporates a series of five interlinked buildings with
heights ranging from 4 to 9 storeys.
The P.A.W. design team worked closely with Vinci, the main contractor, to deliver a very successful
scheme within a constricted urban site. Bespoke light gauge steel frames were needed to achieve
the complex facade requirements of the stunning buildings, designed by Church Lukas architects.
The angular, non-standard shapes of the buildings can be clearly seen in the photographs shown
and Block A (shown on the right) includes a significant overhang, which created an
unprecedentedchallenge to the P.A.W. team.

Metsec SFS lightweight steel framing system has been used to create a multi-million pound library and
joint services centreinthe heartofthe north-eastern seasidetownof Whitley Bay.
Designed by Ryder Architecture, with construction by Robertson, the new three-storey development
will accommodate a library and a variety of other local community services under one roof, creating a
vital and versatile resource at the heart of the community, and encouraging people into the town
centre.
The new state-of-the-art library facilities will replace the town's old library, which had become cramped
and unserviceable over the years. It will occupy two floors of the new building and will provide printed,
audio and visual medi a information services together with internet facilities for public use.
Metsec SFS lightweight steel framing system has been used to create a multi -mi llion pound li brary
The centre's versatility and value to the community will be demonstrated through the wide range of
additional services that will be housed within it. These include contact points for adult social care, Age
Concern, primary care, police, employment and council services as well as a cafés, community
meeting rooms and event space.
The secondary structure for the £5.59m project is constructed using Metsec lightweight steel framing,
with the external envelope featuring a combination of brickwork, f ibre cement cladding and curtain
walling. The result will be a light, airy and welcoming building which contrasts and empathizes with its
town centre surroundings.
Rowan Specialist Interiors of Gateshead carried out the installation of Metsec SFS as well as the

g Mervyn Hogg, general manager at the company, comments, "The scheme needed to deliver
economy and speed of const ruction, and Metsec proved the ideal choice. Their SFS framing system
is quick and easy to install, and its range of accessories enhanced versatility and speed of
construction on site. In addition, Metsec's were able to propose a number of solutions at the early
design stages of the project which delivered costeconomies and installationefficiencies."
Due to open in Spring 2013, the Whitley Bay Joint Services Centre is expected to become a hub of the
community which will reap benefits for the town's people and businesses

OUTLET IN LSF
Why McDonald’schose light steel framing
McDonald's, the world renowned fast food franchise, has chosen light steel framing for their new
outlets; first ly because it achieved their goals for an energy efficient building and secondly
because speed of construction is one of light steel framing's maincharacteristics.
McDonald's hasinvestedinmanysustainability measuresinitsrestaurantsoverthepasttwo years.
This visionary program targets a 20% saving in water consumption, a 20% saving on electricity
consumption,20%savingoncostsand20%savingonconstructiontimeasthebrandcontinuesonits
strong growth path.
Thelightsteelframingmodelwas justtherightsystemtoaddressthesetargets. SiIverlineGroup(a
construction franchise that specializes in LSF) was awarded the tender, and convinced McDonald's
that LSF was the way to go. They also assisted in optimizing the design,inorder to shorten the
construction period.
They not only reduced material waste by 30% andtransport cost by 80%,the insulating layers reduced
the building'senergy requirements by 17%to 20%,compared with those of conventional designs.
The time saving on the construction period has also
been far better than with brick and mortar,which has
enabled McDonald's to serve their customers earlier
than expected - surely a win-win for them.
