Narrative Essay On Middle School Basketball
It all began on November 3, 2015 during my first middle school basketball tournament. The grey
brick walls of the gymnasium looking more like a prison than a school. The school s Lincoln
Park Elementary School sign had graffiti and missed a couple letters from the name. The court
was terribly small, but we began by playing the superb team of Jam on It. We were blown out and
I headed back up to my mom and dad in the parentfilled stands. The game wasn t even fun to play
and we looked like third graders playing them. I looked up to my parents as sad as could be. Nico

What street are you on? I m in between the shopping mart and our house on Windy Hill. We ll be
there soon. Again she hung up the phone. The next ten minutes up to Windy Hill from Sparks
was stress filled and talkative. We passed In N Out Burger, Grand Sierra resort and other reno
businesses as we speeded. The conversations were very heavy, but my mind kept going back to
how Giuliana could not have been responsible for the accident. As we drove up, we saw our
navy blue Subaru Legacy have the front just broken and the back of a 1974 Ford Ranger with a
broken back light and some scratches. The Rangers forest green paint job looking spectacular,
except for the area my sister hit it. My sister was over on the sidewalk looking sick and terrified.
She was as pale as a paper. We asked a plethora of questions. My parents asked the kind senior man
about his insurance information and the steps my family was going to do solve the issue. The man
was kind and nice and was happy to help, but I was angry. After knowing that my sister was safe,
I was angry that she was that unaware. The glass from her light and other objects filled the side
of the road. I picked them up and noticed that there was a wire coming from a broken piece of
glass. I told my father and he said to just leave it be, the

Mesa Grande Essay
An explosion rocked the town, widows shattered and cars alarms wailed, A line of twenty Abram
tanks rolled side by side on parallel roads, through the town of Mesa Grande, but, all heading the
same direction, to the west. Boom, boom , boom boom, as the Abrams fired their 120mm M256
smoothbore guns in a hellish symphony toward their targets, the Heat rounds strike time and again
on target, plumes of fire, smoke, and sand leapt in the sky, forming craters across the desert to the
west of town.
Rat tat tat tat, as some of the tank commanders fired the 12.7mm Browning M2 machine guns, and

evacuate before the crowd hit.

Examples Of Equality In Harrison Bergeron
The short story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut is a story about such an equal society that
people s lives are being ruined. Harrison Bergeron fought the government to free him and his
society of the handicaps that are used to create a perfectly equal world. Also, what is equality?
Equality is not a good quality for a society because, there is no room for change, and no one has the
motivation to continue. The definition of equality is the state of being equal, especially in status,
rights, and opportunities. In Harrison Bergeron, the Government took the equality to an extreme
level, by forcing equality upon the general population. They gave those who were strong, weights to
slow them down, those who are beautiful masks to wear, and the intelligent, headphones that
produced loud noises when they thought. The quote from Benjamin Franklin Without continual
growth and progress such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning, is
and example of what would happen to a society if it was perfectly equal. If America lived in a
society today,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Propaganda In Political Candidates
Political candidates use different techniques in their campaigns, known as propaganda, to win
against other competing candidates. Their main purpose is to gain more votes than their political
opponents. What kind of propaganda campaign should we expect from a reliable candidate? In
order for the propaganda to be successful, the propaganda needs to be informative, effective, and
ethical. Three of the techniques that embrace these three principles are endorsements, plain folks,
and coat tailing. Endorsements allow people to get associated with somebody who has similar
beliefs as them. Business leaders, politicians, and celebrities have the support of various types of
people who can compare their thoughts with confidence. Endorsements are informative... Show

Candidates have mentioned many different actions they have done that a normal person would do
daily. Ordinary people tend to vote for candidates who are similar to them because that candidate
understands their situation better than the other candidate. Ordinary people tend to vote for
candidates who are similar to them because that candidate informs them that they understand their
situation better than the other candidate. This affects many of the everyday people s votes, and
is ethical because it is a friendly of reminding the citizens that they are ordinary people as well.
General Dwight Eisenhower appealed to plain folks by talking about lowering the high cost of
living (Document C). Coat tailing highlights positive ideas of a candidate that have been apart of
popular events. Candidates can associate themselves with other popular politicians to have an
advantage over the other candidate. Coat tailing informs people about the important events the
candidate has been involved in, it is effective because it makes people realize the candidate has

Essay about The Dilemma of Immigration Philosophy
The legal and moral issues concerning immigration have been debated for countless of times since
their booming popularity during the 19th century. People who believe that it is morally wrong for a
country to deny immigration status argue that immigration promotes democracy, egalitarianism and
libertarianism. On the other hand, people who believe that countries have every right to deny
people who seek immigrationargue that immigration taints the cultural roots of a country, weakens
national security and reduces the natural resources that would have been distributed to the original
citizens of the country.
To properly understand the philosophy of immigration, it is imperative to define immigration.
Article I, section 8, clause 4 of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this selection process, a country s distinctive culture will not be tainted and influence by
outside factors. After all, a distinctive culture is very easy to be seen as appealing.
Opponents of this argument however, say that people exaggerate the distinctiveness of one
particular culture. Opponents also argue that this line of argument borders on bigotry in a sense that
proponents of this argument fear change. After all, they ask, how different is American culture
from other cultures of the world.
Another increasingly popular moral and practical justification against immigration is that it
strengthens national security. Proponents argue that restricting or disallowing immigration will
disallow foreign terrorists to enter American soil.
Opponents however opined that disallowing immigration would only affect legal immigrants. That
is to say that the number of illegal immigrants would still remain stable. This point then is very
relevant because terrorists cannot be dissuaded by being involved in extralegal affairs. (Kukhatas,
2005)
Proponents of restrictive immigration laws also opine, that for a government to function properly
and for its people to be compassionates to compatriots, cultural roots must not be embellished or
tainted. This liberal nationalist approach therefore argues that states who limit immigration
restrictively are able to operate in that fashion because the citizens are more apt to be more
cooperative with a

My Favorite Words
I remember countless little episodes in my life where if my sister said a certain word to me, I
would be on the floor laughing within seconds. It seemed almost as if when we got older, we
started becoming more clever in choosing the words that would bring us to the point where we
were peeing our pants. From preschool to the end of elementary school my sister and I would
always find something, be it a phrase, word, or just a very strange idea that made us giggle until our
mom started laughing at the mere sight of us rolling on the floor in tears. These words cycled at a
rate of a new word about every month.
One of the first words evoking laughter was pickle . It was a simple word, but at that point it
was enough to make us giggle. Don t ask me why, but five year old me got a kick out of the
word. I would get off the bus from a long, three hours of half day kindergarten at Evamere
Elementary School, my PokГ©mon cards in hand, and as always, saw my sister waiting for me
as I approached the house through the garage. She had long bangs going down to her eyes
which she refused to cut, and she had her stuffed animal dog on a leash in tow behind her, its
dirty body dragging through God knows what on the kitchen floor. She was the classic toddler.
She saw me and her eyes lit up because she knew that just one word uttered from the day before
would make me laugh hysterically. I knew what she was thinking. I knew what she was going to
say, but it didn t matter because when I heard her

Slavery And The Removal Of The Indians
Without slavery and a proper way to control native americans living on american land then there
can be no stable economy. America is based upon land and what can be gained from it. Slaves
work the land and indians run amuck on the land. So to justify both slavery and the removal of the
indians: Slavery is the basis of the revenue from the south, and to abolish slaverywill lead to a
destabilization of the economy and destroy the freedoms that are trying to be achieved. Native
Americans are uncontrollable and dangerous without proper enforcement from the american
government. Frederick Douglas lived his life in slavery and witnessed the cruelty of a slave s life.
White slave masters are power hungry and vicious.

Western europe needs America for trade. A Lot of the food that is used by the europeans is grown
by the south. And so without Slavery Western europe will starve. (Fitzhugh, Canibals, 3)
Now it might be said that it would be easier and more humane to free the slaves and pay them.
But the answer for that is simple. Slaves are seen as Capital there is no need say in an economic
downturn to get rid of slaves as there would be for paid workmen. To turn out a slave is to lose
money. (Fitzhugh, Sociology, 1) Then there is the fact that a lot of Americans lower class white
men are in poverty. They do not have enough food, enough clothing, or enough shelter. The
condition of these people is worse than the slaves. Slaves are brought from the wild confines of
Africa to live in comfort in America. (Fitzhugh, Sociology, 2) Slaves are hard workers, the are
better at working in the climate of the south than those europeans that try and work the land.
Sure it would be better to free them and pay them if we were in a place like england which has
little land and lots of people. But in America it is opposite, there is tons of land and little people.
If slaves are free what is to stop them from going and finding their own land? If that happens it
will destroy the economy. It is better to have 1 plantation with 100 workers rather than have 100
plantations with 1 worker. The latter example will gain less income and the economy will fail

Imperialism In Japan
I am interested the Imperialism because I thought it was a very important theory in Japan. The
imperialism included the features of extreme nationalism and militarism. The result of spread of
imperialism in Japan was the loyalty of Japanese toward government was extremely high. They
were willing to use their life to help the country. In fact, it was definitely one of the reasons that
cause the strong and hard to defeat of Japan in the WWII. Even at now, there are imperialists in
Japan. Their attitudes are still anti Chinese. There are actually some anti Chinese protests in Japan
nowadays too. Moreover, because of the rapid development of both China and Japan, there are
some conflicts between two countries. The imperialists stated Japan should show strong attitude in
the conflicts of oil field and Diaoyu Island. So, I want to know how the militarism actually
affected the Sino Japanese relationship in the modern period. In fact, after the Second World War,
the Sino Japanese relationship had some improvement. There were some conference and statements
signed between Japan and China. In 1972, there was a Japan China Joint Statement which states
that Japan keenly feels responsibility for and deeply reflects upon the losses inflicted on the
people of China during the war. Moreover, Emperor Akihito s visit to China and said In... Show

Analysis Of The Riverine Ecosystem Of The Nisqually River...
1What is your main research question and hypothesis?
Question= Have there been any declines in the riverine ecosystem of the Nisqually river and if so
what are the declines caused by?
Hypothesis: Due to the recent study published in the peer reviewed journal Global Change
Biology says increased flow variability has crucial negative effects on salmon populations of
multiple climate factors considered and the salmon quality over the recent years showing a decline
the prediction is the findings will include that there is indeed a decline in riverine ecosystem that
are due to human as well as natural causes.
2Why is this research important? Riverine ecosystem health monitoring is essential to carry out
everyday living. It has always been, and will continue to be imperative to life. Even the globally
declared ambitions of sustainability and environmental security in the region are unattainable
without the use of geospatial technologies of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) for environmental health within shared waters. The Nisqually Watershed includes all lands
that drain into the Nisqually River and includes the communities of Ashford, Elbe, Mineral,
Eatonville, McKenna, Roy, Yelm, Fort Lewis, and portions of Graham, Lacey, DuPont, and Rainier.

Essay On Sir Cumference And The Isle Of Immeter
The child I choose to teach was my little sister Itzel Ruvalcaba, she is about to complete 5th
grade and I thought it would be perfect to teach her a little math lesson. The novel I selected was
Sir Cumference and the Isle of Immeter by Cindy Neuschwander illustrated by Wayne Geehan.
The Publisher is Charlesbridge Pub Inc. and copyright date of January 1, 2006. The basic math
concept I am teaching her is finding the perimeter of a square, rectangle, and circle as well as
finding the circles area. The novel is mainly about a young girl named Per visits her Uncle Sir
Cumference and his family and learned how to play a game Inners and Edges Per learned the
formula for Area the length (l) multiplied by the width (w)= Area (A). The same night she finds a
clue within the game linked to the island with a mysterious castle on the Island of Immeter

throughout the process of reading the book together we occasionally stopped and played out the
math related scenes to guide Itzel of understanding the riddles occurring in the novel. The
vocabulary within the story was slightly unfamiliar to her. For example the circumference, radius,

Quality Improvement Action Plan Implementation Essay
Quality Improvement Action Plan An estimated 30,100 central line associated bloodstream
infections (CLABSI) occur yearly in the United States intensive care units and acute care facilities
(cdc.gov, 2016). CLABSIs are a significant issue in MCH that requires immediate attention to reach
the goal of zero CLABIs. The purpose of this paper is to develop a plan for implementing the
CLABSI quality improvement initiative, including the process of planning a timeline,
implementation, and evaluation of the improvement.
Plan for Implementing CLABSI Initiative CLABSI have serious consequences, impacting the
patient in a variety of ways, including increased mortality, suffering, and increased length of
hospitalization. Joint Commission s national safety goals for 2016 complements IOM s aims to
provide safe care. Joint Commissions goal NPSG.07.04.01 to implement evidence based practices
to prevent CLABSI (Joint Commission, 2015). MCWHLB aim is to have a zero CLABSI rate to
prevent harm from occurring to our inpatient pediatric population.
Process Timeline for Planning
An organization must create the operational plan timeline prior to the execution. All changes
related to vascular access devices (VAD) must gain support and approval of the VAD committee;
hence, the need to present the project plans with the supporting research to gain buy in.
Consequently, the planning timeline should include meeting with the stakeholders. MCH chose to

The 2012 Global Financial Crisis
Introduction
The 2008 Global Financial Crisis (GFC) was the worst crisis in history, and has wide range and
deep effects on the world financial system and relations (Peihani 2012). The vulnerability of the
world financial system was exposed from the 2008 GFC (Mohamed 2011). Hence, countries are
trying to find a solution for the heavily market relied global financial system, and protectionism has
drawn the attention from a great portion of countries and researchers (Viju and Kerr 2011).
Mohanmed (2011) defines protectionism as to support domestic production development, and
protect it from global competitions, normally through the methods of Quota and Tariff.

The Congress started to increase the rate of tariff ever since, and reached its peak in 1828 of the
rate of nearly 49%. Moreover, after experiencing few ups and downs from 1832 to 1842, the
Congress started to decrease the rate of tariff from 1846 to 1857, to the average rate of 20%. The
raise of tariff was mean to protect the local production of goods manufactured from wool, iron,

Although the tariffs haven t treated the American well, however the Republicans was insists on

protectionism could restrict imports and lower the unemployment rate (Bruce 2011). Benjamin
Harrison defeated Grover Cleveland in the election of 1888, and passed the McKinley tariff in

but also mature industries. Furthermore, due to the fact that tariff was the principal source of
revenue for the federal government (Bruce 1998), the Congress often avoid to use tariff for
protectionist purpose, which might reduce the number of import and less the revenues (Bruce

Breaking the Chain
Breaking the chain
Breaking the chain (or novus actus interveniens, literally new act intervening ) refers in English law
to the idea that causal connections are deemed to finish. Even if the defendant can be shown to
have acted negligently, there will be no liability if some new intervening act breaks the chain of
causation between that negligence and the loss or damage sustained by the claimant. Discussion
Where there is only a single operative cause for the loss and damage suffered by the claimant, it is
a relatively simple matter to determine whether that cause was a breach of the duty of care owed to
the claimant by the defendant. But where the sequence of events leading to the loss and damage

[edit] Sequential causes
Decisions are not always clear cut where the loss or damage flowing from an initial tort is
overwhelmed by a more serious injury caused by:
(a) a second tort, or
(b) a supervening illness or natural event.
In Baker v. Willoughby [1970] AC 467 the defendant negligently injured the claimant s leg in a
car accident. The claimant was later an innocent victim when shot in the same leg by some
robbers and the leg was amputated. The House of Lords held that the defendant was liable to
pay full compensation for the injury he had caused, based on the claimant s losses beyond the
time when his leg was amputated. Since the claimant s disability would have been permanent,
damages were assessed as if the second event had not occurred. If the chain had been treated as
broken and the defendant had had no liability in respect of the period after the claimant s leg had
been amputated, the claimant would have fallen between two sets of defendants (the robbers were
not available as defendants to pay their share of full compensation). This decision was criticised in
Jobling v. Associated Dairies [1982] AC 794 where the claimant s employer negligently caused a

The Early Childhood Curriculum Te Wh Ж’Г„ Riki Essay
In Aotearoa, the early childhood curriculum Te WhДЃriki has an immense focus on children s
holistic development which is fostered and guided by interconnecting principles and strands that
construct the curriculum. Within the strands, there are goals that teacher s educators must follow
to provide high quality teaching to sustain and fulfil the curriculum.
Te WhДЃriki describes curriculum as the sum total of the experiences, activities, and events,
whether direct or indirect, which occur within an environment designed to foster children s learning
and development (Ministry of Education, 1996, p.10). These experiences, activities and events vary
from centre to centre; though still provide opportunities for healthy holistic development. The arts
and literacies foster children s development of verbal and non verbal communication and language
and provide an exploration of theories of mean making. Through the concept of multi literacies,
multi modal ways of thinking are acknowledged the various ways children learn to process their
thoughts, emotions and actions. Throughout Te WhДЃriki, the arts and multi literacies are woven
through opportunities of dramatic play, drama, dance, music, representational resources and through
ways children represent and reflect their cultural backgrounds such as MДЃori children engaging
and participating in the haka, poi and waiata (Wright, 2003).

Theme Of Allusions In Dantes Inferno

The Secrets Behind People
Smiling.. Shaking head, and acting like everything is understood and okay is a common gesture
people show when they are told something they are incapable of putting together or
understanding. This feeling of cluelessness or embarrassment most commonly occurs when
someone uses an allusion to describe a noun. Most people use allusions everyday and have no
idea that they are doing so. Allusions are an excellent way to build someone s confidence or put
them in down in a sneaky and sly way. Using allusions is quite simple; comparing someone or
something that has a specific representation or meaning to a person or group. This allows: authors,
friends, and even enemies to indirectly imply a reference. The Book Dante s inferno is filled with a
plethora of allusions from small references to big that take a significant amount of elaboration and
background knowledge to understand completely. Including Greek emperors and queens being
alluded including: Virgil, Pope Celestine V, and many others.
Dante made it through many different obstacles and layers of hell, but he could not of made it
through his journey without Virgil. The character in the book is being alluded to the Roman poet
Publius Vergilius Maro. Maro believed and wrote a legendary piece of literature that stated the
mission to civilize the world under divine guidance. He not only wrote about these ways of life but

Computer Vs. Personal Computers
Smart phones and computer have been around for quite a while, but the only difference is that
the personal computers have been around way longer than smart phones. Before computers
were a big deal, but now it s all about smart phones and new ones that are launching soon. People
may not think so much about personal computers because today s generation is all about smart
phones now. I understand that people can have their own personal opinion and may disagree
with what I m saying, but my opinion is that personal computers are better. Personal computers
is a better, electronic than smart phones because personal computers are not a distraction, and
are a lot more helpful. First, personal computers are less distracting. Computer actually need
access to Wi Fi in order to do anything. I believe computer are better because if you have no Wi
Fi then you can t access your social media and wouldn t be distracted. You also won t be
distracting while driving because you won t have Wi Fi and it is actually safer because you can
pay more attention to driving than being on social media. Computers also don t receive text
messages nor phone calls, which is a good thing. This electronic is also good for when doing
homework because you can listen to music, type better, and faster on the keyboard. In contrary,
smartphones are very distracting. Smartphones can be helpful when you can t access Wi Fi for
google maps or just looking up a store for hours, email and other notifications. Smart phones

Short-Term Memory Loss in Finding Nemo s Dori
The beloved Disney movie Finding Nemo features both a colorful underwater landscape and a
psychologically diverse cast of characters. From the obsessive Bubbles (a fish obsessed with
bubbles) and Gurgle (the germophobic fish at the dentists office), to the shark trio that refuses to
eat fish, and the confused Deb, who thinks her reflection is actually her twin sister, Flo, most of
the characters in the movie seem to exhibit some sort of quirky condition. Nemo himself has a
physical disability (his lucky fin ) that he learns to overcome in order to develop self confidence.
Marlin also exhibits anxiety and trust issues, which he overcomes throughout the course of the
movie. One of the main characters, Dory, has a specific disability that she must learn to adapt to in
order to complete her journey: short term memory loss. Dory is perhaps the most beloved character
in Finding Nemobecause she has such a big heart and radiates optimism despite (and possibly
because of) her struggles with short term memory loss. When we first meet Dory, she clumsily
swims into a frantic Marlin, who is searching for his recently lost son. Dory agrees to help him

mistakes Marlin for a stalker, quickly becoming defensive, much to Marlin s confusion. Luckily she

Research Essay: The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe
The Tell Tale Heart, by Edgar Allen Poe, is a story of a nauseating death. Murder as an upshot of
an eye; literally. Incongruous actions are taken by Poe when he determines the fate of a man he
claims love upon, all because He had the eye of a vulture (Poe), and Poe plots the death of this old
man. As noted in Short Story Criticism, it s stated that; What precipitated the narrator s insanity
and the subsequent murder was his irrational obsession with the old man s so called Evil Eye.
The narrator freely admits to his auditors that this was his Primmum mobile: yes, it was this! He
had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it ... Show more content on

Usually these sensorial illusions involve voices which the victim perceives as originating outside
his/her head, but occasionally the auditory hallucinations are of sounds rather than voices. Poe s
narrator insists that his disease had sharpened [his] senses not destroyed not dulled them, and that
Above all was the sense of hearing acute. Yet when he goes on to add I heard all things in the
heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell, his absurdly grandiose claim encourages us to
suspect related claims he makes regarding his auditory capacity (Zimmerman 279).
Insinuating that Poe is in fact a paranoid schizophrenic. Catatonia is another symptom of
schizophrenia displayed by Poe. When he had been spying on the old man, Poe states I kept quite
still and said nothing. For a whole hour I did not move a muscle (Poe), mimicking the behavior of
catatonia; the immobile state of a person often caused by psychiatric disorders, sometimes in odd
positions. Much of the criteria that needs to be met to be diagnosed with schizophrenia is extant
within Poe. One of the leading symptoms present with Edgar Allan Poe is his erratic behavior shown
existentially in the following

Who Is The Doubt In Analyzing Marvel s Ant-Man
Isaac Newton s first law of motion states that an object in motion will stay in motion. Combining
that law with recent history there is no reason to think Marvel s Ant Man will be anything but a
giant success. However there are some reasons to have doubts. The first, and biggest, cause for
concern, who on Earth is Ant Man? With an almost infinite roster of comic book characters to
choose from, making an Ant Man movie was not the obvious choice. Ant Man is an Avenger. If
memory serves correct he might even be the founding member of the Avengers, but he is by no
means the most popular Avenger. Ant Man is B a level comic book hero at best. Not only is he

Robert Downey Jr. spawned this movie franchise juggernaut by being a wise ass in armor. If
Downey Jr. never took the part of Iron Man the Marvel Empire could have stalled right out of the
gates. Chris Pratt anchored a blockbuster featuring a talking raccoon. Paul Rudd may not have it
in him. Yes, Rudd is funny, smart, and charming, but is he enough of each of those things to
carry a super hero movie. If this were a movie about his super hero girlfriend dumping him and
all the foibles on his path to finding love again, sure he d be great in that movie, but this is not
that movie. I need to believe Rudd has it in him to save the world. How would Rudd fight Ultron?
It would probably involve some cheesy jokes and then waiting for Iron Man to save the day. The

The Seventh Seal And Wild Strawberriess By Ingmar Bergman
By 1957, Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman had already established himself in the industry
with films like The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries. These films served as a foundation for
his work that would only go deeper into the exploration of the meaning of art film. After being
hospitalized for a long period of time, Bergman started writing a new film, which would
eventually be his 1966 Persona. Persona serves as Bergman s first film that delved deeper into the
process of exposing cinema in a self reflexive way while tackling themes of one s identity. Through
techniques of using shadows and intercutting, Bergman helped push a narrative revolving around
two women and their identities that went deeper in the realm of self reflexivity than... Show more

In Persona, one of the most memorable shots of the whole film is the moment in which Alma is
giving Elisabeth the truth about herself. The speech is given from two perspectives; in one
instance, we see Alma speaking and the other we see Elisabeth listening and only Alma s voice.
Whether there is a universal interpretation of this moment or not, the facts are that the two women s
faces blend together at the end of Alma s speech suggesting that maybe the two women are the
same person or Elisabeth has projected her conscious into Alma. Bergman didn t know he was
going to use this shot when they were shooting, but it became something he and cinematographer
Sven Nykvist worked on together. Along with this particular shot, there s also the intercutting of
images at the beginning that was done in post to create the white border around the frame, which
made the images smaller than the film itself. These elements created a distinction between the
introduction and the narrative, although at times the two seemed to run together such as when
Alma looks into the camera and the effect of the projection malfunctioning happens. In Fight Club,
David Fincher took similar post production actions with intercutting of pornographic images, but

impact that this war had on our country and that these names are actual people. They are brothers,
fathers, sons, uncles, friends. These individuals left their family, their wives, their children. Some
gave their lives, and some gave their sanity, but they all suffered for something much bigger. Many
Americans fought in the VietnamWar some against their will, many as young as 18 years of age.

Reflection Paper On Child Development
On October 21, 2017, I was able to observe Claire Marcus for my Life Span Development class.
This observation allowed me observe the physical and cognitive changes children experience. It
was performed at the Marcus household in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This observation was
consented by Claire s mother. Claire Marcus is a seven year old, female. She enjoys playing
sports, having play dates with her friends, and excelling in school. At age seven, children are
going through large stages of development physically, cognitively, socially, and spiritually. By
observing Claire Marcus, I was able to get a better understanding of these stages of development,
and I was able to see her interact with those around her. It gave me the opportunity to see the
different stages of development that I have read about in Santrock s book, Essentials of Life
Span Development. As stated by Santrock, children at this age are continually growing. In this
stage of life, children grow an average of two to three inches each year (Santrock 2014, pg. 191).
In the last year Claire grew several inches, and is no longer the shortest girl in her class. She had
to get all new clothes and shoes because she quickly out grew her old ones. During this growth
spurt, Claire also began gaining muscle, and losing her baby fat. Her motherexplained that after
Claire s growth spurt she is now the similar size to her friends and classmates. She is the average

Racism in Glory Road and Remember The Titans
In the movie Remember the Titans there are many lessons that every person should learn in their
life. One of the most important lessons is that of racism. These movies have one main similarity
throughout each of their story lines, and that is racism.
The people in this story go through a great transformation from hating each other to being as
close as brothers. These boys had very difficult decisions to make. This graveyard moment was a
very clear message that could not be misunderstood. They learned tolerance for those of their
loved ones that couldn t or wouldn t learn as quickly as they did. If we are to ever ... Show more

It seemed impossible for these two players to become friends and forget about their racism. The
closer they became the more they forgot about their differences and the more they defended their
friendship. They were too determined to let their teammates hold them back.
When Gerry and Julius considered themselves brothers they realized how much they meant to
each other and they were so honored and proud to be a true friend to each other. This was
unthinkable, but the problem being that if they wanted to play football they had to overcome
these hurdles therefore not leaving them a lot of choices. In camp they would spend days
together but neither of them made an effort to get along. Their friendship was so secure and they
were happy that they had learnt to overcome the racial issues and spent the time to get to know
each other. They both still acted as if they were better than each other and they weren t going to
attempt to change this, even when they were playing football together. If something went wrong
they would blame each other, or disagree, and always end up fighting and usually about different
things, like who was better and right. By observing the friendship emerging between Gerry and
Julius other people began to realize that having friends of a different race was not wrong. This also

They then named the new Scottish colony New Caledonia and immediately discovered some

Essay On Technology And Technology
Does Technology Actually Make Us Feel More Alone?
When I think about the question of technology and the ability it has to make us feel alone , I
think about myself, my family and my friends. As a millennial, I have grown up in such a
technologically advanced world that it is becoming more and more of a second nature that
children at young ages of 10 and 12 are receiving their first cellphone. While time progresses and
the need for technology rises, our society as a whole is slowly starting to lose focus of the true
realitcal things in life, such as self happiness and making valuable friendships. My sole
understanding of this issue comes from the overwhelming growth of technology, specifically social
media. As young middle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children are now growing up with a cellphone at hand versus a coloring book or a play set. As
millennials age and the amount of millennials increase, so does the usage of technology.
Children are increasingly losing focus and independence and have started to become so reliant
on their cellphones; it has even gotten to the point that children are using phone applications to
finish homework. Also occurring, is the lack of sleep. Limiting time asleep is a dangerous
thing, especially for adolescents whose brains are still developing. A poll from the Aspen
Education Group found that adolescents who had four or more technological devices in their
bedrooms were almost twice as likely to fall asleep in school and while doing homework. As a
result, these children are losing focus on schoolwork. Eventually this will cause a domino effect:
an increase stress level due to being behind in class could even increase thoughts of suicide which
will eventually make you feel alone being behind in class while everyone else is up to speed. In
Jeane W. Tweng s article, Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation she states that this feelingof
loneliness is swift and significant (Tweng, 17). Because girls use social media more than boys, the
awareness of not being invited to a gathering is obvious. Over time, these girls and sometimes boys
are given additional opportunities to feel excluded and lonely (Twang, 17). This trend, in

King County Emergency Medical Systems Essay
Emergency medical services is the process of treating patients, transporting them to the hospital,
and providing immediate care according to the patient s condition. Without Emergency Medical
Services (EMS), some patients may not survive the trip to the hospital. Thus, the most important
motivator for establishing emergency medical services systems was to reduce losses of life by
providing treatment from specialized medical providers during transportation to the hospital. There
have been many concerns about the effectiveness of operation and the procedures of the emergency
medical systems in providing care to patients. Accordingly, King County Emergency Medical

So what? From completing this dissertation the author has learnt just how important research is
and how essential it is for nurses to have an in depth understanding of the care they are giving to
their patients. This dissertation has helped the author have a great knowledge on CBT and just
how effective and valuable it is in treating people who have sexually offended. Undertaking a
patchwork assessment made the author reflect upon patient care and although we may consider
an individual s care needs individually, holistic care is the ultimate aim in delivering high
quality patient care. Holistic care is seeing the patient as a physical, spiritual and psychological
whole and not just focusing on one particular area (NursingTimes.Net 2009). A patchwork text is

Effectiveness And The Overall Perception Of The Police Force
A diverse society is a society in which there are different kinds of people, different races such as
black, white, Asian, Mexican etc. The concept of diversity involves acceptance and respect. It
means understanding that each individual is unique and recognising individual differences. These
can be along the dimensions of race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, socio economic
status, physical abilities and religious beliefs.
Diversity in the police force is one of the most important aspects that should be looked at. This is
due to the outcome that it is most likely to have on the effectiveness and the overall perception
of the police force. Policing is one of the most vital requirements of a non violent living of
society. Policing can be seen as overseeing others ensuring that they keep to law and order. As a
result the most significant work of the police is to implement public orders and ensure that they
abide by the law. The police force is given the order of enforcing law in the society. It ensures
people to practice their individual rights but in doing so they do not obstruct with the rights of
others to practice their rights too.
The police force is also given responsibilities to oversee the public relationship. In servicing the
public, the police therefore are involved in an arrangement of activities that are meant to ensure a
supportive atmosphere of life in the public. In this regard, they adapt important functions like
management and directing of traffic,

The Poetry Of Robert Frost
The purpose of this essay is to examine the poetry of Robert Frost for references to themes of
nature, religion, and humanity and how they relate to each other. This exercise will be prefaced
with a brief introduction to the man and his life as a segue to better understanding Frost s verse.
The unexpected but unavoidable aim of this composition will be to realize that Frost s body of
work is almost too sophisticated to comprehend, his manipulation of language so elusive that each
reader may believe Frost is speaking only to them, as the only incontrovertible truth is the poems
operate on so many levels . The reader should note that no discussion will be offered on poetry
form, as that is a consideration best left to literary experts, and otherwise is not germane to
thematic consideration. However, it takes little competence, more an openness, to allow the paean,
hymnal lyricism of Frost s words to insinuate themselves into one s inner voice; synchronizing with
his struggle to explain our very existence. That, instead, will be the focus of the paper.
Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874 and died in January 1963 at the age of 86. He was born
in San Francisco but relocated with his mother to Massachusetts upon his father s death to live
on his grandparents farm. He showed a propensity for verse at a young age and his first experience

History of Washington Redskins and Its Name Essay
History of Organization and Name
Originally named the Boston Braves, the Washington Redskins remain known for their legacy and
team history. Under the ownership of George Person Marshall, Vincent Bendix, Jay O Brien and
Dorland Dolye, the Boston Braves were born as part of the NFL franchise in 1932. Shortly after in
1933, they renamed the Boston Redskins, followed by another name change when they
reestablished in Washington D.C as the Washington Redskinsin 1937; and made the Griffith
Stadium their new home.
Over the decades, the professional football team obtained a number of NFL championship titles
such as their Super Bowl victories in 1983, 1988, and 1992. The Redskins became highly
recognized and attracted a new fan base throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Redskins name symbolizes the organizations past, present and future. Coaches, players, and
dedicated fans are concerned that the franchise will lose the support of the community and funding
if a campaign to change the Redskins name is not implemented.
Marketing Plan
With the recent uproar and political involvement with the name controversy, as an organization we
have developed a marketing campaign to involve our elite fan base with changing the Washington
Redskins name, to one that is well accepted within the community. Since the organization is
enriched with history and traditions, we developed a strategic campaign that stays true to the
Redskins values. Our plan is to keep the Redskins brand as consistent as possible, while assuring
the uniformity of the brand by keeping the current logo and the same color scheme. We will ensure
that the experience fans get when they come to watch the team play is the same or better than
before.
Objectives
To guarantee a successful transition throughout the campaign we have brainstormed strategic
objectives to create a smooth process to sustain our influential fan base.
Launch promotion the day after Super Bowl XLVIII on February 3, 2014 We chose this date due
to the popularity of the NFL at this time. The Super Bowl is a well marketed event that causes
buzz post the Super Bowl. Capitalizing on a time where fans completely invest in the sport will
have a positive effect on the

One key principle of the Human Ecology theory is development occurs through the interaction of a
mosaic of factors family microsystems influence and are influenced by transactions with other
systems (neighborhood, peer group, school, workplace).
Each profession is required to implement the latest research and theories into their work. According
to the book, staying current and preparing can include reviewing research on a topic, implementing
various theories in work, collecting a list of community resources, and updating a personal
philosophy statement (Walsh, DeFlorio, Burnham, Weiser,114).
In addition, each profession value and respect diverse families. According to the American
Association for Marriage and Family Therapy website Ethical Standard 1.1 Non Discrimination
states, Marriage and family therapists provide professional assistance to persons without
discrimination on the basis of race, age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability, gender, health
status, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or relationship status

Horse Observation Report
This week Heather took our imported Irish sport horse named Deelite to a show so my week
was spent packing the trailer with everything you could possibly need (show cloths, tack, lunging
equipment, different bits just incase, water fans, buckets, boots, and grooming supplies just to
name a few things), getting all papers that are needed for traveling in order (health certificate,
coggins, copies of entrance forms, etc.). Since Heather was going to be gone for three days we
made a list of everything that would need to be done while she was away. This included working
two horsethat had someone coming to look at them to buy them when Heather came back,
working two horses that are in for training, lunging a pony who has had some time off, and doing
stall because one of our workers found a new job and did not give us notice that she would be
leaving.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

focus on the things that horse really needed work on which Heather and I had discussed before
she left. For the two mares that were having someone come look at them they both needed work
on their lead changes. I achieved this by first warming up the horse including a lot of lateral
work in each direction. Then I had a pole in the center of the arena and I would make a very large
figure eight over it first at the trot focusing on bending/ changing the bend and moving off my leg

The Gospel Of Matthew, The Pardoner s Tale, And Julian Of...
To the extent of this class so far, we have had the opportunity to read the Gospel of Matthew, The
Pardoner s Tale, and Julian of Norwich. In these publications, the primary focus of each is to reach
the Kingdom of God. In the Gospel of Matthew, written between A.D. 60 65, Jesus shares directions
for living in his kingdom, especially during the Sermon on the Mount. By using Jesuswords, we
become capable of formulating what the Kingdom of God is and determining whether or not
others uphold or undermine the ideal of the Kingdom. In The Pardoner s Tale, the Pardoner
undermines the ideal of the Kingdom of God and takes townspeople s money out of greed. In
Julian of Norwich, written A.D. 1413, Julian upholds the ideal of the Kingdom of God... Show more

My NIV Life Application Study Bible, shares beneficial information pertaining to the Sermon on
the Mount pg. 1651:
Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount on a hillside near Capernaum. This sermon probably covered
several days of preaching. In it, Jesus proclaimed his attitude toward the law. Position, authority, and
money are not important in his kingdom what matters is faithful obedience from the heart. The
Sermon on the Mount challenged the proud and legalistic religious leaders of the day. It called
them back to the messages of the Old Testamentprophets who, like Jesus, taught that heartfelt
obedience is more important than legalistic observance. With Jesus announcement that the kingdom
was near. People were naturally asking, How do I qualify to be in God s kingdom? Jesus said that
God s kingdom is organized differently from worldly kingdoms. In the kingdom of heaven, wealth
and power and authority are unimportant. Kingdom people seek different blessings and benefits,
and they have different attitudes.
Jesus was talking about the way things should be instead of how they were. He disclosed some
of the principles and requirements of approaching the Kingdom of God. The idea of an upside
down kingdom wasn t suitable for all because those who had many worldly possessions had much
to lose. For this reason, Jesus was accepted by many, and rejected by others. Jesus only glimpse of
what their eternities could appear to be.

Stereotypes Of Student Athletes
Okay I ll sign this paper, but this doesn t mean you re excused and you can t make up the
participation points you ll miss. My first thought, then why are you signing the paper? I m a
student athlete here at Tulane University. My sport is Track and Field and I am a hurdler. As a
student athlete, one of my responsibilities is to inform professors of when I ll be out of class due
to a meet and to have them sign a form saying it s okay to miss their class. On quite a few of these
occasions I ve heard the first quote above. These professors believe that I am the stereotypical
athlete. There are these ongoing stereotypes that student athletes are dumb, lazy, and privileged. It s
understandable that people believe these stereotypes, news magazines and reports are always
talking about how athletes are coddled and cheat their way to success. Though it is nowhere near
true for the majority of student athletes, a select few situations encourage this negative
categorization of us, thus putting student athletes under even more pressure to perform. Student
athletes are constantly misjudged and the assumptions are affecting us. For example, in his article
Checking Athlete s Privilege, Michael Kasdan writes, Giving star athletes preferential treatment
doesn t begin in college. It starts much younger. The coddling, the entourages, the brushing aside of
academic requirements (OK we ll say it: cheating) ...But we sure do master it by the time those
athletes get through the

Harrison Bergeron fought the government to free him and his society of the handicaps that are used to create a perfectly equal world. Also, what is equality? Equality is not a good quality for a society because, there is no room for change, and no one has the motivation to continue. The definition of equality is the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities. In Harrison Bergeron, the Government took the equality to an extreme level, by forcing equality upon the general population. They gave those who were strong, weights to slow them down, those who are beautiful masks to wear, and the intelligent, headphones that produced loud noises when they thought. The quote from Benjamin Franklin Without continual growth and progress such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning, is and example of what would happen to a society if it was perfectly equal. Essay about The Dilemma of Immigration Philosophy The legal and moral issues concerning immigration have been debated for countless of times since their booming popularity during the 19th century. People who believe that it is morally wrong for a country to deny immigration status argue that immigration promotes democracy, egalitarianism and libertarianism. On the other hand, people who believe that countries have every right to deny people who seek immigrationargue that immigration taints the cultural roots of a country, weakens national security and reduces the natural resources that would have been distributed to the original citizens of the country. With this selection process, a country s distinctive culture will not be tainted and influence by outside factors. After all, a distinctive culture is very easy to be seen as appealing. Opponents of this argument however, say that people exaggerate the distinctiveness of one particular culture. Opponents also argue that this line of argument borders on bigotry in a sense that proponents of this argument fear change. After all, they ask, how different is American culture from other cultures of the world. Another increasingly popular moral and practical justification against immigration is that it strengthens national security. Proponents argue that restricting or disallowing immigration will disallow foreign terrorists to enter American soil. Opponents however opined that disallowing immigration would only affect legal immigrants. That is to say that the number of illegal immigrants would still remain stable. This point then is very relevant because terrorists cannot be dissuaded by being involved in extralegal affairs. (Kukhatas, 2005) Proponents of restrictive immigration laws also opine, that for a government to function properly and for its people to be compassionates to compatriots, cultural roots must not be embellished or tainted. This liberal nationalist approach therefore argues that states who limit immigration restrictively are able to operate in that fashion because the citizens are more apt to be more cooperative with a ... From preschool to the end of elementary school my sister and I would always find something, be it a phrase, word, or just a very strange idea that made us giggle until our mom started laughing at the mere sight of us rolling on the floor in tears. These words cycled at a rate of a new word about every month. One of the first words evoking laughter was pickle . It was a simple word, but at that point it was enough to make us giggle. Slaves are seen as Capital there is no need say in an economic downturn to get rid of slaves as there would be for paid workmen. To turn out a slave is to lose money. (Fitzhugh, Sociology, 1) Then there is the fact that a lot of Americans lower class white men are in poverty. They do not have enough food, enough clothing, or enough shelter. Sure it would be better to free them and pay them if we were in a place like england which has little land and lots of people. But in America it is opposite, there is tons of land and little people. If slaves are free what is to stop them from going and finding their own land? If that happens it will destroy the economy. Discussion Where there is only a single operative cause for the loss and damage suffered by the claimant, it is a relatively simple matter to determine whether that cause was a breach of the duty of care owed to the claimant by the defendant. In Baker v. Willoughby [1970] AC 467 the defendant negligently injured the claimant s leg in a car accident. The claimant was later an innocent victim when shot in the same leg by some robbers and the leg was amputated. The House of Lords held that the defendant was liable to pay full compensation for the injury he had caused, based on the claimant s losses beyond the time when his leg was amputated. Since the claimant s disability would have been permanent, damages were assessed as if the second event had not occurred. If the chain had been treated as broken and the defendant had had no liability in respect of the period after the claimant s leg had been amputated, the claimant would have fallen between two sets of defendants (the robbers were not available as defendants to pay their share of full compensation). Te WhДЃriki describes curriculum as the sum total of the experiences, activities, and events, whether direct or indirect, which occur within an environment designed to foster children s learning and development (Ministry of Education, 1996, p.10). Shaking head, and acting like everything is understood and okay is a common gesture people show when they are told something they are incapable of putting together or understanding. This feeling of cluelessness or embarrassment most commonly occurs when someone uses an allusion to describe a noun. Most people use allusions everyday and have no idea that they are doing so. Allusions are an excellent way to build someone s confidence or put them in down in a sneaky and sly way. Using allusions is quite simple; comparing someone or something that has a specific representation or meaning to a person or group. This allows: authors, friends, and even enemies to indirectly imply a reference. The Book Dante s inferno is filled with a plethora of allusions from small references to big that take a significant amount of elaboration and background knowledge to understand completely. You also won t be distracting while driving because you won t have Wi Fi and it is actually safer because you can pay more attention to driving than being on social media. Computers also don t receive text messages nor phone calls, which is a good thing. As noted in Short Story Criticism, it s stated that; What precipitated the narrator s insanity and the subsequent murder was his irrational obsession with the old man s so called Evil Eye. The narrator freely admits to his auditors that this was his Primmum mobile: yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it ... Poe s narrator insists that his disease had sharpened [his] senses not destroyed not dulled them, and that Above all was the sense of hearing acute. Yet when he goes on to add I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell, his absurdly grandiose claim encourages us to suspect related claims he makes regarding his auditory capacity (Zimmerman 279). Insinuating that Poe is in fact a paranoid schizophrenic. Catatonia is another symptom of schizophrenia displayed by Poe. When he had been spying on the old man, Poe states I kept quite still and said nothing. For a whole hour I did not move a muscle (Poe), mimicking the behavior of catatonia; the immobile state of a person often caused by psychiatric disorders, sometimes in odd positions. Much of the criteria that needs to be met to be diagnosed with schizophrenia is extant within Poe. The Seventh Seal And Wild Strawberriess By Ingmar Bergman By 1957, Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman had already established himself in the industry with films like The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries. These films served as a foundation for his work that would only go deeper into the exploration of the meaning of art film. After being hospitalized for a long period of time, Bergman started writing a new film, which would eventually be his 1966 Persona. Persona serves as Bergman s first film that delved deeper into the process of exposing cinema in a self reflexive way while tackling themes of one s identity. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Persona, one of the most memorable shots of the whole film is the moment in which Alma is giving Elisabeth the truth about herself. The speech is given from two perspectives; in one instance, we see Alma speaking and the other we see Elisabeth listening and only Alma s voice. Whether there is a universal interpretation of this moment or not, the facts are that the two women s faces blend together at the end of Alma s speech suggesting that maybe the two women are the same person or Elisabeth has projected her conscious into Alma. Bergman didn t know he was going to use this shot when they were shooting, but it became something he and cinematographer Sven Nykvist worked on together. Along with this particular shot, there s also the intercutting of images at the beginning that was done in post to create the white border around the frame, which made the images smaller than the film itself. These elements created a distinction between the introduction and the narrative, although at times the two seemed to run together such as when Alma looks into the camera and the effect of the projection malfunctioning happens. Children are increasingly losing focus and independence and have started to become so reliant on their cellphones; it has even gotten to the point that children are using phone applications to finish homework. Also occurring, is the lack of sleep. Limiting time asleep is a dangerous thing, especially for adolescents whose brains are still developing. A poll from the Aspen Education Group found that adolescents who had four or more technological devices in their bedrooms were almost twice as likely to fall asleep in school and while doing homework. • 42. Horse Observation Report This week Heather took our imported Irish sport horse named Deelite to a show so my week was spent packing the trailer with everything you could possibly need (show cloths, tack, lunging equipment, different bits just incase, water fans, buckets, boots, and grooming supplies just to name a few things), getting all papers that are needed for traveling in order (health certificate, coggins, copies of entrance forms, etc.). Since Heather was going to be gone for three days we made a list of everything that would need to be done while she was away. This included working two horsethat had someone coming to look at them to buy them when Heather came back, working two horses that are in for training, lunging a pony who has had some time off, and doing stall because one of our workers found a new job and did not give us notice that she would be leaving.... For the two mares that were having someone come look at them they both needed work on their lead changes. I achieved this by first warming up the horse including a lot of lateral work in each direction. Then I had a pole in the center of the arena and I would make a very large figure eight over it first at the trot focusing on bending/ changing the bend and moving off my leg aids. • 43. The Gospel Of Matthew, The Pardoner s Tale, And Julian Of... To the extent of this class so far, we have had the opportunity to read the Gospel of Matthew, The Pardoner s Tale, and Julian of Norwich. In these publications, the primary focus of each is to reach the Kingdom of God. In the Gospel of Matthew, written between A.D. 60 65, Jesus shares directions for living in his kingdom, especially during the Sermon on the Mount. By using Jesuswords, we become capable of formulating what the Kingdom of God is and determining whether or not others uphold or undermine the ideal of the Kingdom. In The Pardoner s Tale, the Pardoner undermines the ideal of the Kingdom of God and takes townspeople s money out of greed. In Julian of Norwich, written A.D. 1413, Julian upholds the ideal of the Kingdom of God... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My NIV Life Application Study Bible, shares beneficial information pertaining to the Sermon on the Mount pg. 1651: Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount on a hillside near Capernaum. This sermon probably covered several days of preaching. In it, Jesus proclaimed his attitude toward the law. Position, authority, and money are not important in his kingdom what matters is faithful obedience from the heart. The Sermon on the Mount challenged the proud and legalistic religious leaders of the day. It called them back to the messages of the Old Testamentprophets who, like Jesus, taught that heartfelt obedience is more important than legalistic observance. With Jesus announcement that the kingdom was near. People were naturally asking, How do I qualify to be in God s kingdom? Jesus said that God s kingdom is organized differently from worldly kingdoms. In the kingdom of heaven, wealth and power and authority are unimportant. Kingdom people seek different blessings and benefits, and they have different attitudes. Jesus was talking about the way things should be instead of how they were. He disclosed some of the principles and requirements of approaching the Kingdom of God. The idea of an upside down kingdom wasn t suitable for all because those who had many worldly possessions had much to lose. For this reason, Jesus was accepted by many, and rejected by others. • 44. Stereotypes Of Student Athletes Okay I ll sign this paper, but this doesn t mean you re excused and you can t make up the participation points you ll miss. My first thought, then why are you signing the paper? I m a student athlete here at Tulane University. My sport is Track and Field and I am a hurdler. As a student athlete, one of my responsibilities is to inform professors of when I ll be out of class due to a meet and to have them sign a form saying it s okay to miss their class. On quite a few of these occasions I ve heard the first quote above. These professors believe that I am the stereotypical athlete. There are these ongoing stereotypes that student athletes are dumb, lazy, and privileged. It s understandable that people believe these stereotypes, news magazines and reports are always talking about how athletes are coddled and cheat their way to success. Though it is nowhere near true for the majority of student athletes, a select few situations encourage this negative categorization of us, thus putting student athletes under even more pressure to perform. Student athletes are constantly misjudged and the assumptions are affecting us. For example, in his article Checking Athlete s Privilege, Michael Kasdan writes, Giving star athletes preferential treatment doesn t begin in college. It starts much younger. The coddling, the entourages, the brushing aside of academic requirements (OK we ll say it: cheating) ...But we sure do master it by the time those athletes get through the ...
