The IELTS exam consists of four modules - Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The Listening module is 30 minutes and contains 40 questions based on recorded audio passages. The Reading module is 60 minutes and contains 40 questions over three long written passages. The Writing module contains two tasks - a 150-word description or explanation of provided materials and a 250-word essay, both completed within 60 minutes. The Speaking module is an 11-14 minute face-to-face interview with an examiner consisting of short questions, a longer discussion on a provided topic, and a structured discussion. The IELTS test is accepted at over 10,000 institutions worldwide and is an important factor in admissions decisions.
