EWRT 200
We had
homework!
Oh Hell!
AGENDA
In-Class Revision
of your essay #4
This is the result
of combining
essays 2 and 3
Based on The
Book of Unknown
Americans
IF YOU DON’T HAVE TWO COPIES, YOU
HAVE TWO CHOICES:
1. Go make two copies and return
to class. We can try to find you
a partner when you come
back.
2. Work alone on your essay now.
1. Sit in the back row.
IF YOU HAVE TWO COPIES OF YOUR ESSAY
Get out both
copies of your essay.
If you don’t have two copies,
move to the back of the room.
Find a partner to
work with.
This must be someone who
brought two copies.
Find two seats
toward the front of
the room.
ON YOUR OWN ESSAY
Identify your hook by putting brackets around it:
Dressed in a blue tuxedo and wearing dark glasses,
he walked onto the construction site. No, he is not
the supervisor; Rodriguez is just another man slinging
a hammer all day long. His tuxedo and glasses,
though, mark him as a man who has defeated the
idea of “common.”
Underline your thesis statement.
Underline your Point (Topic sentence or main
assertion) in each paragraph.
Draw an arrow that points to your Information: “This
will be a quotation or summarized event from the
text”
“Circle your in-text citation” (Palmore 2).
Underline your E (your explanation and analysis).
Does it connect to your Point? Is it at least twice as
long as your information piece?
IN YOUR OWN ESSAY: FOR EACH
PARAGRAPH!
IN YOUR OWN ESSAY
• Underline the part of your
conclusion that answers the
question “So What?”
• Put numbered stars in the margin
next to your four subordinating
conjunction sentences
1
