Domonique Wirsing experienced severe back pain starting in middle school that was initially dismissed as muscle pain. After her pain worsened in high school, she was eventually diagnosed with a fractured back and a large cyst on her tailbone that became infected, requiring surgery and 11 months in a full body brace. After intensive physical therapy and training, she made a successful return to sports as a junior, leading her basketball team in scoring and blocked shots and being named player of the year.
