a few things in common.
They both have a teen
as their lead, they are
both similar to action
thrillers. They also both
have the representation
of social class and age
clearly shown.

3. • This film is great to make comparisons from,
as it is what we are studying in class.
• I know it well, and can see there are some
similar things we use in our sequence which
relates to the dark knight.
• This ‘real media’ product is very different in
terms of the budget and special effects it
has. Our thriller sequence definitely differs
in quality, however I feel as though we
challenge the forms of conventions and
techniques Christopher Nolan uses in this
film.

4. In terms of characters and
target audience, like
‘Stormbreaker’ we used a
teenage boy as our main
character , appealing to
our teenage and young
adult demographic. It was
crucial to use the right
boy. He had to be fairly
attractive, smart and fit
enough to do some
running, stunts etc..

5. I think if we’re looking at similar media
products, then I think ‘Stormbreaker’ is
probably the most similar. I think our
thriller sequence really challenges the
conventions of an action thriller, often
comparable to this real media product,
however not to the same scale.

6. I don’t think there are massive similarities between ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and our
sequence, however that is not to say we didn’t take inspiration from it. One of the
representations TDKR shows, is class and status. This is one of the main
representations of our thriller, along with age. We did not mean to make this
similarity, however, using inspiration from my research into TDKR, I found it very
useful to make the representation prominent in our sequence.

7. • Due to the massive difference in budget and staff, our media product will not
challenge this real life media product.
• However I’d like to think we developed our idea with this sort of goal in mind. I tried
to bare in mind TDKR conventions and try and incorporate them as much as
possible.
• Although there are a number of real media products similar to our sequence, I think I
really only paid close attention to TDKR and Stormbreaker.

8. • Overall, I think this was a massive learning curve for me, and our group. As
armature film makers I was really have with the outcome we had.
• Using inspiration and knowledge from other real media products really helped. We
definitely used conventions of real media products to aid us with the pre and post
production, as well as the film day.
• I wouldn’t say we really challenged any conventions of real life media products,
well, maybe aside from stormbreaker which had some very similar qualities.
• I think our sequence was more trying to develop the conventions used by real
media products, especially the dark knight. I was always trying to refer to that, or
other similar products to find similarities and inspiration in order to learn how to
incorporate conventions of thrillers/films into our final media product.
• I think we developed our knowledge of incorporating conventions through this
process of research and filming. It has been a very rewarding learning experience.
