WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?
The target audience for our media product is Males aged 25 and over. Although our demographic is
more vague in terms of age our ideal target in terms of gender is more strict as it is aimed at males.
HOW DID YOU ADRESS YOUR AUDIENCE
We followed the conventions of a western with help from mise en scene, camera, editing and sound.
In our main task we included a voice over recorded by an mp3 Dictaphone. We also included
background music purchased from audio network to match the western genre. After reviewing
music from YouTube, iTunes and audio network we choose a track named ‘lonesome landscape’. The
track matched the conventions of a western with the folk genre and use of violin. Our choice of
background music also helps portray the plot in the opening sequence.
We used mise en scene to portray our character as a mysterious cowboy. We did this through
costume as we set an attire of black jeans, white shirt, cowboy boots and cowboy hat. The white
shirt contrasted with the dark jeans which sent out further connotations of mystery. At the
beginning we filmed a variety of close up of the characters face that we did not eventually use,
however we used the cowboy hat to cover up the cowboys facial to add mysteriousness to his
character.
We filmed a vast amount of shots at three different locations, including a classroom where we used
key lighting that we would not include in the final edition. We went to the new forest where we
searched for a suitable location to film. After about 5 minutes we found a suitable hill from where
we could film a long shot from. We selected a long shot to emphasis the connotation of mystery as
we did not want to reveal to much about the main character in the open sequence. We also used a
science classroom were we filmed different shots of our female character. We shot close ups of her
face, close ups of her hand writing of the paper.
