EVALUATION OF EDITING PROGRESS FROM CRASH SEQUENCE TO
SHORT FILM.
When I first edited the crash sequence clips I only did the basics of
editing, simplecuts and jump cuts, un-evolved editing, all I did was
arrange the shots and scale the frameto scale size.
In ‘Contrast” my short film I ineptly applied more mediatechniques
and used moremedia knowledgeto get the audiencesattention, set
pace, and create a clear coherent narrative structure.
There was nothing that I learned from editing the crash sequence,
but from the short film itself. I learned how to create split screen
where multiplescenes/clips play at correspondingtimesside by side,
usually used to show relation between the scenes/clips and inform
the audience. This was very useful. It wentwith the structure of my
film, and the splits screen editing technique clearly illustrated to the
audiencethe differencebetween the two protagonists in the film.
Contrast. I had learned and explored the term ‘enigma’, the media
terminology for story with an unclear narrativeuntil a coherent
narrativeresolution. I applied this to my short film; I also implied an
open endingbut then closed the narrativebefore the credits. These
were the other terminologies I explored in editing and in media in
general, closed and open endings’. From this I produced my short
film, Contrast ‘and was graded a distinction.
