Q1. In what ways does your media
product use develop, or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
 In our media product we used a variety of conventions to make our thriller opening set look like an interrogation center. For
example we used a small closed room, which was very simple and plain which is what you would expect in an interrogation
room as the objective is to make the suspect crumble under the pressure. We kept the Convention of the thriller opening
sequence look of an interrogation center to add realism to our product. For example we kept to the general tradition of thriller
opening sequences to have a death scene. We showed the dead victims in the flashbacks of the suspect. However we do
challenge the thriller opening sequences because showing flashbacks is something we did’t normally see when we watched
thriller opening sequences. We generally saw the victim/s being killed first hand, for example like in “clockwork Orange.” We got
the idea to have a small simple interrogation center by watching movies such as “Batman, the dark night”, where the joker is
being interviewed in an interrogation center.
The shot on the left is a screenshot of
the interview interrogation scene in our

the interrogation scene from “The Dark
Knight”. As you can see the postures of
the characters in The Dark Knight is very
similar to the character postures of the
characters of our thriller. The table in
both shots are also very much the
same, very simple and plain. Both rooms
                                                 look fairly small and uncomfortable
which connotes the way thrillers should
                                                 make the viewer feel.

                                       Both shots here are in
                                       very dark settings which
                                       connote
                                       emptiness, confusion, thr
                                       iller. Both of the
                                       characters body
                                       postures look very
                                       confused, and lost.

This is a Thriller called “Band of Brothers”. This is a scene where the protagonist is having a
flashback about a death he committed. We got the idea to do flashbacks from this film. The picture
on the right shows the flashback that the protagonist faces.
 Our thriller connotes that it is a hybrid genre between a detective film/ thriller. This is because the opening
sequence makes the audience ask the question “Who is the murderer”, “How where the victims killed”, and
“why were the killed”. These are the same questions that the detectives and interrogation officers want to find
out through out the course of the film.

 It is also a thriller because the flashbacks show the bodies of the victims, and the flashbacks are unexpected.
The music during the flashbacks are quite dreary and low which connotes murder, and death therefore this
adds a more thriller effect to our project.

Flashback – thriller effect – Dark, hands on head This scene shows, a lot of light, in the
connotes confusion, unstable interrogation center, which could connote
condition, uncomfortable. smartness of the interrogator.
