What kind of media institution
might distribute your media product
              and why?
            Joe Chapman
What is a media institution?
• Media institution: any organisation resposible
for the production, marketing, distribution or
  regulation of media texts.
• Some institutions:
• IPC
• Future
• Bauer
Bauer Media
• Within my magazine I am trying to emulate features of other
  music magazines
• E.g. Elements of my magazine have similarities to kerrang!
Bauer Media
• The publisher of ‘Kerrang!’ is Bauer media, who also produce
Q and MOJO, they have a target demographic with all these
magazines being based around rock music. However Bauer
media have other magazines, which they publish which are
not about rock music at all, this could show that music
magazines are not top priority and are just a niche market!

Which publisher for AMPED?
                BIG vs SMALL
• One reason why i would want to go with a big publisher is because
they could distribute and get my product ‘out there’ for example,
Bauer media connect and engage with 19,000,0000 consumers
every week, with the most influential brands in the UK.
• Bauer Media is very large media company with over 90 brands
across different styles of medium, some brands include: Kerrang!,
RiDE, TRAIL, GRAZIA, MATCH!, BOX TV, Sea angler and Zoo.
• I really like Bauer's size and understanding of different forms of
medium and how successful some of the products are. For
example, Kerrang! Is not only a magazine, it also comes as Kerrang!
TV, Kerrang! Radio, Kerrang.com and also the Kerrang! Tour. This
span of media not only generates revenue but it also keeps fans
interests alive in all forms of medium, therefore giving the audience
continuous involvement in what they are interested in.
Why would Bauer accept AMPED?
• As I have emulated the general style and theme
of kerrang as well as looking at similar music
style/sub-genres it would be beneficial to create a
competitor of the same style within the same
company, this would mean that whether people
buy AMPED or Kerrang! The revenue made still
goes to Bauer media, of course the individual
writers and editors would have competition but it
would be healthy competition as all proceeds
would go to Bauer media in the end
