Ethanol fires can be difficult to extinguish because ethanol burns with an invisible flame that is hotter than a typical fire (Meyer, 2014). Firefighters may use a fire suppression agent like water fog or dry chemical extinguisher to fight an ethanol fire since directly applying water could cause the fire to spread further. Diluting and cooling the ethanol is an effective strategy.
