improper estrus detection is very much common in buffaloes because of very very mild or weak estrus symptoms.this presentation contain various behavioural signs shown by buffaloes during estrus.

1. ESTRUS BEHAVIOUR IN
BUFFALO
• Estrus is fairly well defined period characterized
by exhibition of sexual desire and acceptance of
male
• Buffalo remain in estrus for 12-24hrs (avg 18hrs)
• In buffalos symptoms of estrus are very very
mild or weak
• Improper estrus detection is very much common
in buffaloes

2. SNIFFING AND LICKING OF THE
VULVA
• Butting, sniffing and licking of the vulva and perinium
region is common

3. FLEHMAN RESPONSE
it is a behavior in which an animal curls back its upper lip
exposing its front teeth, inhales with the nostrils usually closed
and then often holds this position for several seconds in
response to a estrus female.

4. FREQUENT URINATION
• Frequent urination is a very important sign in buffalo

5. VULVA BECOME EDEMATOUS
AND MOIST
• Vulva became edematous ,moist and and reddish
• Increased secretion of mucus from uterus and cervix occurs
and clear stringy mucus may hang from vulva also

6. INCREASE VASCULARITY OF
VAGINAL MUCOSA
• Increase in the vascularity of vaginal mucosa also occurs due to
increased blood flow to the genitalia
• Vaginal mucosa appears reddish
