The Battle Of The Invasion Of Normandy
After Marshal Montgomery blockaded Rommel, whose fame was generally known as the Desert
Fox with the navy and the air force in the Strait of Sicily for more than 100 days, the Allies won
the North African Campaign on May 13, 1943. As the Allies freed for further action with the
victories of about 250,000 German and Italian troops surrendered on the north coast of Africa, the
British and the American strategists were facing two options as their huge army quartered in the
southern Mediterranean (www.history.com). One of the option was put forward by the American
chief, suggesting that the Allies should transfer their forces north for the impending invasion of
Europe from the English Channel. Even though this suggestion was disapproved by the English
chief who held the opinion that the Allies should strike the Europe from the southern Italy, this
strategy was later known as the Invasion of Normandy that completely helped the Allies win the
WW II. The option that the British chief favor for finally became the strategy of the Allies first
step invasion in Europe because it not only utilized the fighter cover from air bases on British
Malta, 60 miles south of Sicily, but also saved the Allies shipping to the English Channel as the
American chief suggested that. The strategy of pressing north into Italy was vividly described by
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill as invading the the soft underbelly of Europe
(www.history.com). The underbelly here, however, referred to

The Influence Of Australian Canon
The canon is a collection or list of sacred books accepted as genuine. (Canon Define, 2013 Literature
included in the Canon, shapes values that are taught within society. With the influence that
literature has on society, why does Australia not have their own Canon? The answer to this; because
no traditional scholars recognise Australia as having their own identity. Literature could introduce
the idea of giving Australia an identity. Imagine the positive impact that having an Australian canon
will have on the Australian identity. A separate canon will define Australia as a country, different
from the European canon and create a wider sense of diversity. There are many recognised works in
the Western Canon, ranging from Romeo and Juliet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Benetton
Benetton History and Present Structure
When Luciano and Giuliana Benetton, both grown up under the harsh conditions of war and post
war Italy, founded Benetton group in 1965, they probably did never dream that one day their
company would among the most famous in the fashion industry. Yet, 34 years later, Benetton is
present in 120 countries and Edizione Holding, the holding company of the family is now making
a yearly turnover of XXX billion Lira[1]. Not at least due to their controversial advertising
campaigns which sparked strong reactions around the world, from outright ban to art awards,
Benetton has become known worldwide.

In 1992, these activities were bundled in a separate division, called Benetton Sportssystem. The
production of sports equipment was supplemented by the production of sports wear, the aim being
to provide the customer with both the equipment and the clothing, thus realizing synergies from the
existing textile manufacturing facilities[5]. Benetton Sportssystem is the fastest growing division
of Benetton group and it already represent 21,3% of turnover[6]. With 55% of its sales realised in
North America, it is also much less focused on Europe[7].
While Benetton Sportssystem was still in connection with its original business, in the 1990s
Benetton diversified into areas which were rather far from it, like retailing or the restaurant
business. The acquisition of shares in Autogrill, world leader in catering services for travelers, and
GS Gruppo, leader in the Italian food distribution sector, left the Benetton family with 700
supermarkets, 21 hypermarkets and over 650 restaurants, producing a combined turnover of more
than 13,000 billion Lira (more than three times the turnover of the actual Benetton group)[8].
Reasons for this diversification into areas remote from their core business might be found in the
wish to take advantage of the privatization of national industries presently in progress in Italy and to
profit from the

The Tragedy Of William Shakespeare s Othello
In this life that we live, many different individuals go about their business without considering the
individual struggles that they have to deal with. According to dictionary.com, a struggle is defined
as, a forceful/violent attempt or effort to get free from restraint or contrition . Some of these
personal struggles are more pronounced than other. From Othello, the tragedy by William
Shakespeare, we can see how humans are faced with individual contentions, and their daily actions
are ways and efforts of trying to free themselves. In the discussion below we consider Othello s
struggle with being different, gullibility, timidity, inferiority, pride and selfishness and Iagos
conniving personality, hate, greed, manipulation, selfishness and slander
Talking about human contrition, Othello s life is without doubt as presented, is with many great
successes. He is introduced as a great soldier with many victories and a reputable general from a
royal family, From men of royal siege, and my demerits , (1.11.21). Notwithstanding such
achievements, he struggles with the fact that he is a black moor among the Venetian whites. This
aspect of difference makes him stand out but also as an easy target. Additionally, either because of
his origin or his upbringing Othello comes as one struggling with gullibility. When he saw Cassio
leave the company of Desdemona, other than calling him back to confirm whether it was he, he
dismisses it saying, I don t believe twas he , (3.3.43).

The Samson Option Presents A Compelling Political Thriller
THE SAMSON OPTION presents as a compelling political thriller. The plot offers smart story
choices and convincing moral decisions that generate tense moments.
The plotline centers on the idea of a biological attack on the US that could trigger a devastating
nuclear world war. It s a relevant and realistic plot for a film. The hook is the idea that anyone
could use the Samson Option, which would trigger a devastating nuclear attack that could destroy
countries. It s a genuine fear. The crisis is presented as being very believable and authentic.
There are many smart and clever story plot choices, including an interesting female heroine as the
newly sworn in US President. Not only is she a female, but she s also Jewish, which adds a ... Show

Thus, while there s a lot to really admire and get excited about in this script, there are areas to
revisit.
First, the opening sequences set up the world of Sara Mann (last name has nice subtext man ). She
wins a Nobel Prize for Peace, which provides clever irony. The preparing of the attack provides for
nice anticipation and suspense, but when the mist begins to billow out, try to build more
anticipation show it, but no one sees it and then eventually it s discovered. Right now, it happens
too quickly when Aadil begins shouting.
The idea of the US President and the fundraiser is a bit confusing. One isn t sure if this is in a
different location or where it s taking place. It would be nice to foreshadow the US President
introduce him. If the audience likes him, then his death will have a stronger emotional impact.
The main note is regarding the motivation for both Soule and Rapp to conspire against the US. It s
simply challenging to follow and it feels too convenient that both were conspiring. It s not clear if
they were working together or not.
Normally, in a political thriller the person who is a traitor has a close relationship with the hero/
heroine. Neither Rapp nor Soule seems close to the heroine.
Basically, it s difficult to understand their motivations. One reason for this may be the fact that the
script relies heavily on dialogue versus visual storytelling or action. When there s so much dialogue
and so many conversations they can be

The Film Adaptation Of Defiance By Nechama Tec
In the Modern Age, adaptation of stories of film has become commonplace in the film industry.
These films seek to bring stories into the visual spectrum, so that we can not only learn these
stories but also get the feel of what the people went through. Defiance written by Nechama Tec,
tells the stories of the Bielski Brothers and their struggle for survival in the second World War.
The Bielski Brothers created a community in the woods under the leadership of Tuvia Bielski, a
community that welcome all and provided for those trying to escape the violent oppression of the
Third Reich. A film adaptation by the same name directed by Edward Zwick, starring Daniel Craig
and Liev Schreiber attempt to bring this story into the theatrical world. While entertaining the film
adaptation of Defianceonly provides a snapshot of the events that happened to Jews and others in
and around NowogrГіdek and Lida in the German Occupied Poland. One of the failing of the film
adaptation is that it fails to bring the real stories in the same way the book does. The book was
written through historical study, but as well as through interview of the people that lived in the
Bielski otriad. These people throughout the book provide commentary on the many events that
took place within the otriad. These commentaries, some from people who were saved by the
otriad, others by Tuvia himself, providing a human element that is lost in the film. These people
suffered for over two years in the forest after losing

Child Protective Services And Foster Care
A child living in the 21st century is no stranger to poverty and the desperate lifestyles it promotes.
Too often the case, children, living in families with incomes below the nation s poverty line, are
limited to criminal activities, low level education, and blue collar employment. Furthermore, years
of economic strife in the United States have invited a cycle of povertyto predetermine the lives of
children in poverty stricken families, where they are raised with insufficient care and inadequate
resources in unstable environments. Not that it is in any way the fault of the parents, whose
financial situation isn t always an accurate reflection of their parental capability, the government s

In accordance to Dorothy Roberts, professor of Law and Sociology at the University of
Pennsylvania, Foster Care addresses family economic deprivation with child removal rather than
services and financial resources. Moreover, the activities of the Foster Care system, despite it
being a vital component of the nation s child welfare systems, offers a temporary solution to
treat the cycle of poverty, removing children, like one would in the case of an earthquake, away
from the vicinity, except in this case it s their homes and families. This is done when the
providing of services and financial resources would do more than suffice, and as a result one
third of children in foster care are black, despite black children making up only 15 percent of the
nation s children. (Roberts) In addition to this, the racial imbalance present in the child welfare
system feeds off the notion that children with African American parents are more at risk than
children with white parents. A study done by PBS showed that in Chicago 95 percent of
children in foster care are black., and in 1997, New York City s foster care system had only
1,300 white children, with black children 10 times as likely as white children to be in state
protective custody. (Roberts) black children in the child welfare system are placed in foster care at
twice the rate for white children., and a national study of child protective

young people as it has surpassed all other common forms of interaction in frequency of use.

specific language techniques that are used in texts were related to better word reading scores.
Examples of such techniques include, greater use of contractions (txt instead of text), g clippings
(goin in place of going), symbols (emoticons plus single characters such as in place of words), letter
/number homophones (2nite), nonconventional spellings (fone), and accent stylization (e.g., elp
instead of help) (Rosen et al., 2010, p.
422). All of these techniques are regularly used in text messaging and usage could lead to school
age children becoming better readers.
Deciphering textisms often requires using good linguistic strategies that are good intellectual
exercise. Texters need to be able to pronounce words phonetically when they are not spelled in an
orthodox fashion, reinstate vowels that have been removed in the interest of brevity, or have
letters and numbers pronounced as their names (8 for ate) (Kemp, 2010). A National Union of
Teachers spokeswoman suggested that abbreviations used in texts can boost literacy skills because

Billy Pilgrim s So It Goes
So it goes : Three simple words that have a comforting connotation of the reality of death. The
phrase So it goes is used 106 times in Slaughterhouse Five. Every time death is mentioned, the
incident is followed by this phrase. The phrase So it goes is a reminder that death happens to
everyone at some point. The phrase refers to deathin an equalizing way. No matter whether it is a
massacre of many people or the death of a single person, the phrase So it goes applies. It could be
death by warfare, accident, or by intention, and the narrator still applies the phrase So it goes.
You could say that it is the motto of the novel. Billy Pilgrim, the main character of the novel,
says that it is a Tralfamadorian saying, which he adopts. At the beginning of the novel, Billy is
young, naive, and clueless, and he gets thrown into battle when he is drafted for World War II. He
finds it so hard to cope within his reality which is why he is so fascinated by science fiction. The
war consumes his innocence, which is why he buys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, when I myself hear that somebody is dead, I simply shrug and say what the
Tralfamadorians say about dead people, which is So it goes. This passage from the novel
explains the Tralfamadorian belief that all moments in time exist now, in the past, and the future,
because time is not linear. The analogy of beads on a string is used on page 27, saying that
humans see the illusion of time being impermanent; once a moment has passed it is gone forever.
But the Tralfamadorians see it a different way: time is everlasting so when a person dies, he is
really only dead in that very moment, but he is perfectly okay in a bunch of other moments. This is
why they adopted the fatalistic phrase So it

Bureaucratic Discretion In Public Service
Extensive research has discussed the role of street level bureaucrats in the administration of public
services.
Few people in the public consciously give a name to what front line service providers such as
police, social workers, teachers, public health, legal aid, city workers, and other public servants
subconsciously perform day in and day out bureaucrat discretion. Many of these public servants
themselves who are doling out bureaucratic discretion have not put a name to it because many
times it is a natural reaction and decided in a moment s response. Author, Michael Lipsky, brought
attention to the phenomenal and verbalized the concept. Since these public servants are literally in

This is why it is vitally important when discretionary calls are made it is done with the upmost
ethical conclusion. Human nature is wired to react from their own experiences be they good or
bad. It is important for citizens, all levels of government employees and the institutions they serve
to understand this concept of bureaucratic discretion. With education, nuances of the complexities
of the job, and proper policies and guidelines, when bureaucratic discretion are made by the street
level worker they need to be balanced with ethics and integrity for the various situations they
face. There is such a broad spectrum of public servants that bureaucratic discretion will also have
a very broad range of definitions. A broad general definition of discretion is a perceived freedom
of street level bureaucrats to make choices that concern the sort, quantity, and quality sanctions and
rewards that are offer when implementing a policy. The management style of different government
entities can have an adverse or beneficial effect when implementing the same policy because the
public servant(s) (1) possess more knowledge or loopholes on the rules, (2) the agency s

them to adjust to the circumstances, or (4) the personality of the street level bureaucrat is more rule

Student Athletes Should Be A Leader
Each year, thousands of high school student athletes graduate without ever having left their mark on
the community. They breeze through these four years of life as if they re nothing whether they are
playing or sitting on the bench. They receive average grades and never find ways to give back to
the communitythat has allowed them to be in the position that they are today. I have always
looked at things from a different perspective. I believe student athletes should be a leader to their
peers and in their community. For starters, I believe that student athletes should be a leader to
their peers and in their community through attitude and hustle. This seems like it would be
normal for someone that is seen as the face of their school, but often times these two things can
come low on some athletes list of priorities. In school, instead of being the typical jock
personality, student athletes should be the ones that portray a positive and caring attitude towards
their peers. On the field/court, student athletes should always give their all. Many like to give up
if they aren t playing well, or if they aren t playing at all, but this only brings the overall morale of
the team down tremendously. Whether it is making plays or supporting teammates, everyone on a
team has a role no matter if they are on the field or on the bench. Every single player has a part in
success and one negative attitude can be the one to overtake an entire team. Comparatively, I
believe that student

Analysis Of The Poem Adair Billy
Adair Billy is quite connected to her Indian identity, although it does not seem like it. She lives
in New Orleans, Louisiana, working as a stockbroker for a large firm, where she is highly sought
after and praised for her abilities. She made a name for herself there by saving many clients a lot
of money, she woke up to a voice telling her about a company that was not doing well. She
removed her clients from the firm going under, many believing that it was her Native
upbringing, and they are not wrong. In addition to this, Adair has a strong interest in early
Indian commerce and relations within New Orleans. This causes her to believe that her job as a
stockbroker is connected to her Indian identity, the narrator saying, Adair tells herself she s
following a tradition established by her ancestors. After all, Indians were the first commodity
traders of the New World (Howe 42). She has found a way to incorporate her background into
her life, even though she is not living in Durant, Oklahoma anymore. Her Indian identity is
present within her career and interests, different from the way Auda s is present, and different
from the way Tema Billy s is as well. Tema Billy no longer lives in Durant, but is close by in
Dallas, Texas. Tema is an artist of all kinds; she first worked with the American Indian dance
company and made the move to New York City. She worked odd jobs and eventually took up

Religion is supremacy, perfection and spirituality. A typical Latin
American religious community heavily relies on religion to provide a moral framework to guide
and protect its citizens. However, projecting religion in the light of perfection is superficial. In
actuality, it often contains flaws underneath its idealistic teachings. The inadequacy in maintaining
the idealistic doctrines is deeply rooted in society. Such notion is reflected and commented upon in

Religion as a burden is also evident in Chronicle of A Death Foretold in which the townspeople
honour the much disliked bishop solely out of respect to God. The bishop, on the other hand, sends
obligatory blessing without evincing a speck of inspiration as he makes the sign of cross
mechanically and without malice or inspiration (19). The townspeople greet the bishop in an
overwhelming manner, creating a strong contrast against the neglectful attitude of the bishop:
But the Bishop didn t stop and then the band of musicians started to play the bishop s anthem, and
the cocks began to crow in their baskets and aroused all the other roosters in town. (18) g
By staying on the boat, the bishop creates a physical distance that further advocates the barrier
between the people and the Church, and ultimately affects their religious devotions. These actions
of the bishop do not earn him respect as a person but only as an empty shell of authority, another
defect in the practical result of religious doctrines. Hence Placida Linero refers to him as the son of
the worst kind of mother (127).
Religion also becomes less a symbol of ultimate priority and spirituality amongst the younger
generation. Garcia Marquez discusses this notion using Santiago Nasar. Santiago engages religion
with entertainment rather than an inscrutable symbol of spiritual life:

Just-in-Time Supply Chain Managment Systems and Chrysler Auto
In the article, Chrysler Averts a Parts Crisis, by Jeffrey Ball, in the Wall Street Journal, readers get

impacted during a national crisis such as September 11th. Just in time is getting the right quantity
of goods to the right place exactly at the right time. The goal is to get products at a certain place
not too early and not too late, instead, just in time.(1) Just in time systems is an inventory strategy
that is relatively simple to explain and understand. In order to fully understand just in time systems

JIT minimizes quality problems that can result when parts sit around for a long time. JIT
stresses the importance of minimizing waste. A company that uses JIT is from the school of
though of feeling like they have a need for continuous improvement. The JIT viewpoint on
improvement is if it s not perfect, make it better instead of it s good enough. JIT minimizes
quality problems by using pull quick setups and small lots and by using flexible resources and
efficient facility layouts. If parts aren t sitting around wasting space and money then there is less
of a chance for the parts to go bad. JIT systems depend heavily on transportation networks.
Everything from trucks, boats, and planes help to deliver time sensitive parts to factories that use
JIT. In the article, Chrysler Averts a Parts Crisis, it exposed how sensitive a JIT operation can be
to a disrupted transportation network. On September 11th and the days following, airplanes were
grounded and trucks were stuck in eighteen hour lines at U.S. border crossings. Since, in just in

in small batches, instead of less frequent deliveries in huge piles that require warehousing, this
effected assembly lines and auto plants very badly. The JIT system works to minimize warehousing

George Washington The Indispensable Man Analysis
George Washington is a towering historical figure who is considered the father of the United States.
James Thomas Flexner captures the man, not the myth, behind this legendary icon in one concise
single volume biography, Washington: the Indispensable Man. This book is a condensed but
altogether new version of Flexner s previous four volume biography of George Washington. This
smaller scale book is well written, and explores Washingtonas the human being behind the
legendary icon (New York Times Book Review) to bring the reader to a closer relation to a man
removed by time and history. Of time and history, GeorgeWashington had a great deal more of it
which Flexner had to cover. Washington was a major national figure for twenty four years from his
election as Commander in Chief to his death, and he was hardly twenty when his role in the French
and Indian War made him internationally known. The wide ranging subject of Washington must
have been difficult to fit into one encapsulated volume, but Flexner manages not only to do that but
also writes straightforward in thought with flowing ideas and logical conclusions. The first chapter,
of course, starts from George s Birth and tells of his childhood of growing admiration for the wilds
of the frontier and the British Army. A little later, the book moves forward to Washington s first
military blunder in inciting the French and Indian War which makes the name George Washington
internationally known. After this incident, Flexner

Compare And Contrast Culture And American Culture
Culture is a very vital part of the world as we know it today. There are very many different cultures
all around the world. In the USA, we have a mix of all the different cultures and and family values.
From the original Native Americans that inhabited America to the Middle Eastern people in
Afghanistan. These people groups have brought their language, food, values, and customs with
them.
There are lots of different types of families in today s American society. Mine is a little bit weird.
My parents got divorced when I was about 5 years old. My Dad re married when I was about 8 and
then got divorced again. My mom remarried when I was around 11 years old. My dad re married
again around the same time. It seems like in today s society that more and more families are
becoming split households. That is the culture difference between the USA and other countries. In
the earlier years of the United States, many people looked down on divorce. Divorce was like a
curse word to them back then.

different styles of cooking. Those styles spread all over the nation and into other households.
My family does a lot of Italian cooking and Irish cooking because that is where our decedents are

Women Discrimination Paper
The word discrimination can be described in many ways around the world. My paper talks about
female discrimination in the workplace and the battle for equality. Women have been fighting for
their rights since the early 1800s. During the 1960s, women started to demand equal rights and the
same opportunities that men had been given. In 1963 John F. Kennedy signed into law the Equal
Pay Act, a federal law amending the Fair Labor Standards Act signed into law by President
Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1938 ending the genderbased pay discrimination.

Tsunami disaster, implication on economy Essay
TSUNAMI DISASTER, WHAT IMPLICATION ON ECONOMIC SYSTEM IN THIS REGION?
We view with awe a release of power on this scale. We know that this power is greater than that
of our species nature holds us in its hands. We may be able to mitigate some of the consequences;
in some cases we may be able to give advance warning of the threat; but we are not in control; the
tsunami has demonstrated this ancient truth.

TSUNAMI WHAT ARE THEY?
5. Tsunamis are not wind generated waves. Rather, they are shallow water waves, with long
periods (time between two sucessional waves) and wave lengths (distance between two
sucessional waves). The wind generated swell one sees at a California beach, for example,
spawned by a storm out in the Pacific and rhythmically rolling in might have a period of about
10 seconds and a wave length of 150 m. A tsunami, on the other hand, can have a wavelength in
excess of 100 kilometer and period on the order of one hour. As a result of their long wave
lengths, tsunamis behave as shallow water waves . A wave becomes a shallow water wave when
the ratio between the water depth and its wave length gets very small. Shallow water waves move
at a speed that is equal to the square root of the product of the acceleration of gravity and the water
depth. In the Pacific Ocean, where the typical water depth is about 4,000 meter, a tsunami travels at

The Philosophy Of Servant Leadership
The Philosophy of Servant Leadership Servant leadership is a theory based on the notion that
one should be a servant to others first, and a leader second. A person should have the desire to
serve others, in order to be a servant leader. The following paper will address several key
components of the servant leadershipphilosophy related to the book: The Servant: A Simple Story
About the True Essence of Leadership, written by James C. Hunter. First, I will examine the
theory of servant leadership including its history, definitions, and major concepts. Next, the
function of this leadership style in the field of nursing and nursing roles will be discussed. Finally,
how this philosophy can be utilized in my personal nursing practice and how the theory has
sparked personal growth in myself as a leader will be examined.
History of Servant Leadership The philosophy of servant leadership began with Robert K.
Greenleaf in 1977. He first came about the idea of servant leadership while reading Journey to
the East by Herman Hesse (Keith, 2016). This is a story of a group of travelers who were served
by a man named Leo. He performed their menial chores and lifted their spirits with his song and
his spirit (Keith, 2016). Leo disappeared one day, throwing the travelers into disarray (Keith,
2016). This ended the journey of the travelers. Many years later, one of the travelers saw Leo in a
new job role as the head of the order that once sponsored the journey (Keith, 2016). Once a servant,

Similarities In Creation Myths
Even though these creation myths all stem from different continents, they share many
similarities. One big similarity is that all of the creators are male or appear masculine. This
reflects on what worldwide culture was like for a long time because it shows that all of the
ancient people believed men were more likely to have supreme powers. Another common theme
was that creation wasn t instant; it took time, and it was also very neat and orderly for all 4
groups. This shows that they all believed creation to be very important because if creation was
messy or chaotic it would ve shown they didn t care as much about it. Finally, the way the first

modern day world. The competition is on for who is the biggest and most bad. Now, the
millennials are the ones to decide that. According to new surveys, 72 percent of business

businesses have already implemented a mobile paymentsystem. (Big Think Editors, 2012) In late

For the reason that consumers only need to carry a mobile device rather than multiple forms of
paper and plastic, mobile wallets will be considerably useful. Also, because they can track users
shopping and purchases, mobile payment systems can offer advanced personal shopper services
such as endorsements and new deals based on one s location and past purchasing history.
According to a recent Pew Research survey, nearly 66 percent of participants believe their
smartphones will replace traditional payment options like credit cards and cash by 2020.
(Gramigna, K. 2015). Therefore, a few people do believe that they will be using their phones
instead of cash. Cash may not disappear completely, but it will not be used as much. As claimed
by those that doubt cash will truly disappear, mobile payments will never replace cash. Data from
Intuit shows that 55 percent of the nation s 27 million small businesses do not accept credit cards.
Despite study after study proving otherwise, many merchants believe it is too expensive to take
credit. Given this, the likelihood of those merchants adopting mobile payment technology in the
near future seems slim. (Quinn, M. 2014) It is too unlikely to expect cash payments to disappear
completely. Nowadays, pulling out your wallet for cash or using a credit card only takes a few

MOBILE MUSIC: DIGITAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION
OVER MOBILE NETWORKS
Abstract
The transition from physical to digital music distribution is bound to have profound implications on
the music industry. So far, most of the activity related to digital music distribution has been centred
on the fixed Internet. In the meantime, mobile operators have been making significant investments
in extending their network capabilities to support data services. This paper includes an analysis of
the current situation of music delivery in mobile networks, as well as future prospects enabled by
the technical evolution of mobile networks. The overall feasibility, and the potentially most viable
forms of, mobile music business are studied.

once the good is provided, additional resource cost of another person consuming the good is zero
and to prevent anyone from consuming it is either very expensive or impossible. Consequently,
recorded music exhibits the economic properties of information. One of the fundamental
economic properties of digital information deals with its cost structure characterized by low
reproduction costs. Another noteworthy attribute that can be associated with music is its nature
as an experience good. According to the definition by Shapiro and Varian, (1988), music can be
classified as an experience good since it needs to be experienced to know what it is. According to
other definitions by Hampe and Schwabe (2001), music is a repetitive good, since unlike many
other types of information, if one likes a song, one is inclined to listen to it over and over again. It
is essential to keep these economic properties in mind when considering mobile music distribution.
2.2 History of innovation in the music industry
The history of music distribution sees its birth in the early days when music printing was the only
means of distribution. Subsequently, the ability of audio recording and duplication emerged,
eventually giving rise to mass production capabilities using various technologies as storage media
(Figure 2).
Despite the continuous stream of innovation, the record labels have remained largely

Why you should highly consider motorcycle riding for a hobby
I m sure by now at some point in your life you have seen a motorcycle go by and have thought to
yourself what would that be like to drive. Instead of wasting time thinking about it you can do
something about it and even get your license without owning a motorcycle. You will not get the
same experience out of buying a video game console and games which can cost over 1000usd
depending on how many games you buy. 1000usd can easily buy yourself a second hand
motorcycle, and just think after all those video games are played what have you experienced other

but don t only base your decision to try this hobby on the gas savings alone think of the many other
great reasons to give it a try.
Many times people never get past the safety or fear aspect of trying motorcycle riding. A great
way to get past the fear is to take a training course You will learn to ride using our motorcycles on
a safe closed circuit course. Our motorcycles and scooters are small and lightweight, so you can
concentrate on learning the skills of safe riding (motorcycle training academy, N.D. sec. 1.6).
After you complete a training coarse maybe you are still worried about a crash or the other
drivers out there, even if you are no longer afraid yourself of driving a motorcycle. I believe any
responsible person who has been trained to drive a motorcycle safely need not worry. The
statistics although not perfect might make you reconsider In 2005, the motorcycle fatality rate
was 73 per 100,000 registered motorcycles which is a .00073% risk of fatality from driving a
motorcycle (motorcycle accident website, N.D. sec. 10.1). If that s not enough reason just think
you can reduce that .00073% chance of death by 42% 48% percent by not drinking or speeding Of

Evaluate Interpersonal and Written Communication Skills
Role Plays I have also demonstrated my interpersonal skills well while presenting role plays in
class such as engaging with the audience while I was showing my role plays by using eye
contact while I was performing however I did not use hand gestures like I did in my
presentation. In the role plays that I performed in class I did not use all the interpersonal skills
as I did in my presentation because some were not necessary such as summarising and
paraphrasing because there was nothing to summarise and there was nothing that I had to
change into my own words, however there was some interpersonal skills that I should have
demonstrated and need to improve such as intonation because I struggle to vary the tone of my
voice and this is something I need to improve on the next time I m presenting a presentation or
performing a role play in class. General In general in everyday life I demonstrate some
interpersonal skills well such as active engagement because when people are talking to me I
show that I am listening to them by doing things such as nodding when a person says something
I agree with or to show that I have understood what they are saying, also in everyday life I have
good use of intonation which is important so that people know how you are feeling. Also in

Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia
Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an immune system disorder where the reaction of the
immune system attacks itself causing a low platelet count, placing those affected at risk for
severe hemorrhage. Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) formally known as idiopathic
thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP), is now defined as an immunological disorder where the body
attacks its self and destroys platelets (McCare 2011). ITP a disorder defined by a low platelet
count in which platelet productions are both impaired and destroyed by anti platelet antibodies.
ITP is diagnosed with a platelet count less than 100,000/uL with no known evidence of anemia or
leukopenia. ITP can have a negative effect on life expectancy reducing it by approximately 20 years.

The body views the platelets as a foreign body and causes a response that produces antibodies that
marks the spleen to destroy and remove the platelets. The platelet count is affected by antibodies
produced by individuals with ITP. The antibody produced covers the surface of the platelets
making them easily destructible by macrophages. Once the macrophages destroy the platelets faster
than they are produced, the number of platelets are greatly reduced causing a decrease in blood
clotting.
Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia is most common in women between the age of 20 40 years of age
and also commonly known to affect children with a recent viral infection such as Rubella or
German Measles. ITP can be both chronic and acute. Chronic ITP is progressive and insidious
found more common with women between the ages of 20 40, with complications noted mostly
during childbirth. Acute ITP self limiting and is often seen in the pediatric population after a viral
infection and spontaneously resolves without treatment within 6 months (McCare

Yes, most of the people who resisted were African Americans, but these African Americans were
mostly either running away on the underground railroad or were freed slaves who joined the
abolitionist movement to advocate for slave freedom and aid the underground railroad.
Additionally, there were whites that aided African Americans in resisting slavery but these men
and women were few in number. In addition, while people did run away from slavery on the
underground railroad in the south, slavery didn t only exist in the south like these movies
portrayed. The north had slaves just like the south, and while it may not have been as brutal,
slavery and its cruelty lived in the north just as it did in the south. Before most of the northern
states outlawed slavery, most of the resistance either happened in the area of Florida (or other
Spanish and/or Native American owned areas) towards the beginning of slavery and it wasn t until
later in the timeline of slavery that Africans began running to the north. Even once in the north,
former slaves/ runaway slaves still constantly feared that they would return to slavery, as a result
of the Fugitive Slave Act, so resistance would also continue in the north, eventually causing the
resistant slaves to run all the way to Canada for freedom. The targets of resistance was slavery. In
the real world analysis of the slave era, many of the whites who were resisting weren t fighting to
rid the united states of white supremacy, only the oppressive and inhuman actions that occurred
under slavery. Even Abraham Lincoln, the man who is frequently attributed with legally ending
slavery, didn t do so to promote equality of the races or even for the purpose of freeing slaves.
Lincoln did so in order to gain allies in the civil war in order to increase their armies numbers to

Throughout history, anti Semitism has been a reoccurring problem in which the Dreyfus Affair
was an important event. The Dreyfus Affair was a political scandal, which divided France from
the 1890 s to the early 1900 s. It was a very important event in history. 1894 marked the start of a
revolution for Jewish people, as a French Jewish artillery officer, Captain Alfred Dreyfus was
accused of treason (Isseroff). The accusations against Dreyfus were false all because he was a
Jew. Following his accusation Dreyfus accumulated many followers that became known as

He was convicted of treason by court martial in December 1894 and sentenced to life
imprisonment in solitary confinement on Devil s Island, a prison off the coast of French
Guiana (Derfler). Before his deportation to Guiana he was publicly degraded and humiliated.
This false conviction was based on a list called the bordereau, which contained admission to
secret French military information (Dreyfus). This list was picked out of the garbage pail of
Maximilian Von Schwartzkoppen, a German military attach in Paris (Johnson). Many years
passed before the truth was uncovered, Dreyfus was innocent and although false information was
used he was an easy target because the writing in the bordereau matched his handwriting and the
information came from an artillery officer (Johnson). In 1899, Alfred Dreyfus was granted a
presidential pardon and it is unwritten that he had committed treason against Dragnev 3 France

teen years is working, whether she s actually working in the military or she s indirectly
contributing to the Empire s military, her mother sees her daughter s work with pride and
honor. The benefits of having a husband or a father in the army are also frequently noted. All of
these things are so hard to come by nowadays, but soldiers families get the best.
(Takahata,0:24:25) In this scene, Seita brings everything he has left from his home and give the
food to his aunt. This scene reveals how much honor and pride it brings to a family just by
having a family member in the navy. You need nourishment. You can t be a soldier if you don t
grow up healthy. (Takahata,0:36:35). This is a scene that connects to the other two references.
Here, the Aunt shows her expectations of Seita to become another honorable soldier like his
father. In this scene, The aunt convinces Seita to trade her mother s kimonos(traditional Japanese
dress) for white rice, a privileged food during the war. It seems that only Setsuko understood the
sentimental value of the dresses when she tried stopping Seita from trading them. The last
objects with sentimental value that he was able to hold on to until the end was his father s cap
and picture. Looking back when Mr. Minkus asked what 5 things would I bring a picture of my
family just made that list. I thought having a phone on that list was not a bad idea at all. I would
argue that a phone and other items of high value to society we re actually the best things to be on
that list. Just like how Seita burying his mother s

Linux Network Name Spaces
Overview
In this paper we will discuss the Linux Network Name Space. First, the concept of namespaces
will be described along with an overview of the default name spaces available in the Linux
operating system. The Linux Network Name Space is a key enabler for some high profile
virtualization technologies including OpenStack and Docker.
Linux Name Spaces
Linux consists of the following six namespaces:
Network Network Namespace
PID Process Namespace
Mount Filesystem Namespace
User User Namespace
IPC Interprocess Communication Namespace
UTS Host and NIS Namespace
Linux namespaces can be traced back to early UNIX technologies called chroot, process jails
controlled where access is controlled with cgroups. The concept of a namespace is to isolate
processes from other processes on the system. This concept evolved into namespaces that are
created with clone() system call and manipulated with the setns() and unshare() system calls. The
clone() system call is used when creating child namespace from a parent or root namespace. As
the name would suggest this creates a clone of an existing stack. The setns() system call is used to
join a namespace. The unshare() system call is used for moving processes into a namespace, as the
name suggests the process

Arranged Marriage Sociology
When comparing many sociological perspectives and theories against the idea of arranged
marriages in India there are many conclusions that can be drawn. In specific, feminism,
functionalism, and the conflict theory all point out very interesting facts. Some of these theories
do a much better job in terms of accounting for this phenomena; which is not surprising as we
looks at the long and detailed history of the subject. However, there is no sole theory that can truly
be linked to account for the total occurrence of such a subject. As you will see, there are many
factors that come into play when an arranged marriagetakes place. Not only are the couple being
married affected, but the families of both the man and the woman are traditionally... Show more

This theory is focused on the inequalities of different groups in a society, and on the level of
power associated to these groups (Mooney, 2000). In the case of arranged marriages in India, there
can be said to be many groups that both contribute and are created with unequal power through the
process. To begin with, the parents potentially hold the future of their child in their hands as they
are the ones who choose the significant other (Sandhya, 2013). In the interest of wealth, power and
security, most families choose a person with a significant amount of higher status in the society
because through the marriage, ties between the families strengthen and so do both of their overall
prestige (Sandhya, 2013). It can be said that families marry into one another, and this creates
economic inequalities as these groups are formed. This idea of marriage being a family affair all
starts with people who hold more power than others, the parents versus the child, and end by
creating an even larger group that differs from many other others in that country (Sandhya, 2013).
Overall, I believe that the conflict theory can be said to best describe the idea of arranged
marriages because of the nature that encompasses the

Hobbit Once
Mihaela Mihailova s article, You Were Not So Very Different from a Hobbit Once : Motion
Capture as an Estrangement Device in Peter Jackson s Lord of the Rings Trilogy applies the
Russian Formalists concept of defamiliarization to The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Mihailova
argues that, according to Russian Formalist Viktor Shklovsky, the point of art is to offer a different
perspective on the piece of art s subject; art takes something that is familiar and reimagines it in a
way that is new and unfamiliar. This article discusses how the human face and body is
defamiliarized in the creation of the creature Gollum by using motion capture to record the
movements and expressions of actor Andy Serkis. His body and face are then distorted and
animated to create Gollum. The article successfully applies the theory of Russian Formalism to the
film... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of these contribute to Gollum s otherness (Mihailova, 8). Mihailova spends about three pages
discussing how motion capture has defamiliarized the concept of acting, specifically as how it
relates to Serkis performance as Gollum. Not only is her argument here interesting and worthy of
attention, it also contributes to her overall argument and application of Formalism. Motion capture
is a wonderful defamiliarization tool, as she has illustrated in the article; this technology does lead
the defamiliarization of other things as well, such as acting. Mihailova reaches the conclusion that
motion capture as a defamiliarization device is a way to look inwards and explore what it is that
makes us human; at the same time, it also provides society with a way to analyze self
representation. Her conclusion is the end of a successful argument and application of Formalism.
She picks out the themes of the films and examines how defamiliarization communicates these

The Importance Of The Seattle Cancer Service Area
The SCCA service area is one of the most useful and important strategies when it comes to planning
purposes. Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) allows research teams, cancer specialist, and
organizations to come and work together, such as Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle
Children s Hospital, and University of Washington Medicine. All of these prestige organizations
expand and translate any type of scientific discoveries into prevention and cures for canceras the
treatment process continues. The SCCA service area is prominent in the Washington, Wyoming,

SCCA is also a Public hospital that communities have created ways to establish funds to finance the
facilities and operations.
The SCCA Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) focus on the implementation and
expansion of the cancer prevention and screening actions that are taken in King, Pierce and
Snohomish County areas. The benefits of advancing the cancer care by SCCA is that different
institutions will have the ability to reduce the lack of access and increase treatment through
extensive care. In this case, health deficiencies are results of financial barriers, lack of reliable
transportation, as well as low medical knowledge. SCCA must implement ways to minimize these
barriers in order to target a large population.
Challenges:
The SCCA faces many difficulties with patients attempting to reach the care necessary. Travel times
for reaching main clinics, such as the South Lake Union can prove to be decimating patients
seeking care. For example, patients can go to clinics through Northwest Hospital and Evergreen
Hospital, but some patients are in need of care from the southern cities and it requires them to travel
into Seattle. Likewise, the ability to expand clinic facilities and satellite sites is a complex and
expensive undertaking, but in some cases, it must be done. The SCCA must expand throughout
their region while maintaining

and ever expanding population1 the corollary of which is increased need for chronic disease
management, home based care, and acute intervention. This is coupled with an increased number
of patients living in rural and remote areas that often lack access to required healthcare services.2,3
Taken together, these challenges place significant stress on the healthcare system, prompting
system stakeholders to utilize resources more creatively to ensure that patient needs are met

A large body of literature illustrates the critical role telehealth technologies can play in addressing
these issues by serving as a tool to expand the reach of healthcare practitioners and access of
patients to them. The telehealth technology described in this context refers to videoconferencing

Betrayal In Macbeth Essay
Regarded as the darkest and most powerful work of Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Macbeth (1606),
follows the corruption of high nobility and the potent consequences that come with choosing evil
over good. Shakespeare tells the story of a courageous Scottish gentleman named Macbeth, the
Thane of Glamis, who receives a prophecy from three witches that he will become the Thane of
Cawdor and King of Scotland. Consumed by this insight and overwhelming ambition, Macbeths
actions snowball into a plot of blood, madness, betrayal and the supernatural. Shakespeare used
characterisation, symbolism and setting to successfully explore the consequences of betrayal.
Shakespeare s characterisation of both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth throughout the... Show more

Macbeth envisions a dagger as he prepares to murder Duncan, Is this a dagger which I see before
me? (II.I.XXXIII)
This apparition which Macbeth states in his soliloquy is just the brink of multiple hallucinations
that will come upon him. As time passes Macbeth s morals and guilty conscience overwhelm
him. When Macbeth has a nervous breakdown at a feast, shocked by seeing the gory ghost of
Banquo, he realises that he must acknowledge his sins and well as contemplating Macduff s
future, I m in blood stepp d in so far, that, should I wade no more, returning were as tedious as go o

Macbeth comes to terms with his sins and from this, realises that the choice or either trying to
repent for his crimes, or continuing are both equally challenging. This choice calls into question
Macbeth s character, and shows that his ambition truly does override anything else, as he chooses to
continue down the path of murder and sin.
Later Lady Macbeth s sleepwalking where she hallucinates is a result of her mind in despair. Lack
of sleep and fit mind are consequences that both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth face after killing King

The Other Side Of The River By Alex Kotlowitz
Tiefenbach 1
Benjamin Tiefenbach
Professor Ned Watts
IAH 207
17 March 2015
Twin Cities, Twin Races Reading the book, The Other Side of the River, by Alex Kotlowitz, the
author writes about the relationship between two towns in Michigan, and the death of a young boy
named Eric McGinnis. The two towns, Benton Harbor and St. Joseph, are called the Twin Cities ,
but are ironically not related in any way. St. Joseph is 95 percent white, while Benton Harbor is
impoverished and is 92 percent black. Throughout the book Kotlowitz questions the residents
from both towns and how they are affected by the environment around them. The author also
starts with the climax on the first page of the book the death of Eric, and uses this as an
technique to tell the story of the disagreements between the two towns. With the murder of Eric,
Kotlowitz identifies the climax at the beginning of the book and how it has been affecting the
two towns which are physically only two and a half miles apart, and the river that flows between
them only being a quarter of a mile wide. St. Joseph is a rich area while Benton Harbor is in
poverty. This is relevant to the state of Michigan because many bodies of people migrate to
certain regions of the state and are easily divided by different cultures and beliefs. Even with a
small river providing the gap between these two regions, Michigan is known for its divided groups
of people. With this division, the death of Eric with his drowning in the river resided

911 First Responders
This paper is for the people that seem to do great things for the community, but receive such little
recognition in return. 911 first responders (dispatchers, Firefighters, police officers, etc.) is the
epitome of a lifesaver . These people choose to risk their lives and give up time with their family
to save yours. Yet, believe it or not they receive little compensation for the work they do. Having
personal experience in the matter as my mother is a 911 dispatcher. Not only does the job take a toll
on these people financially, but also their physical and mental health are at risk. As we should
make sure that the people that selflessly care about our well being be taken care of. Most people
are willing to pay $200 for a concert ticket, but would gripe over paying that in medical bills.
Hopefully, after making this statement people will gain understanding and compassion for the
modern day heroes. Over... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies have shown a $98 billion dollar short fall in funding over the last 5 years for first
responders. As the government continually chooses to make budget cuts in this department. Not
only do first responders take a big hit financially, but also due to finances manage to be short
staffed the majority of the time. Not only have they managed to take financial misfortunes, but to
add insult to injury not getting paid for the extra duties they tend to. Trusting these people with our
lives every single day. Dispatchers having the proper training to deal in high stress situations
whether someone is having a heart attack, choking or contemplating suicide, they must remain calm
in stabilizing the situation. Also, police officers choosing to walk into dangerous situations of
criminals shooting or someone fighting for their life. We must make sure that these people are
properly compensated in hopes that they will not lack in their job

Dna Evidence And Its Repercussions
We will examine the importance of DNA in the conviction of Tommie Lee Andrews and the
significance of this decision in the United States Judicial System. We will discuss an overview of
some of the essential elements in conducting utilizing this DNA evidence and its repercussions.
This case signified the first time in the United Sates that DNAevidence was actually admissible in
court proceedings during a criminal trial. In 1986, in a neighborhood around the Orlando,
Florida area a series of violent rapes had the city on edge. One of the victim s names was Nancy
Hodge, who was brutally raped at knifepoint by her attacker. She only briefly saw the attacker and
was not able to immediately identify him due to his hands having covered her... Show more content

Due to the brief period that Hodge had been allowed to see her attacker, the prosecution felt that
stronger evidence was needed to prove a connection. The brief 6 second glimpse that the victim
Nancy Hodge obtained during her ordeal wasn t considered viable enough for trial purposes
(Lewis). This relatively new forensic investigation technic involving the use of DNA fingerprinting
was in its infancy and was pioneered by a British scientist might hold the answer to convicting the
rapist.
Because the mistrial of Andrews caught the prosecution off guard due to not having appropriate
information or statistics of its viability, a new plan was needed. The prosecution felt that a
stronger case against Andrews was needed to proceed in court. The prosecutor contacted a
colleague familiar with principles of the DNA evidence in England for guidance. He then
contacted a company in New York used to develop methods of DNA profilingor fingerprinting for
assistance.
Once the results of testing were completed in this case, it positively matched two of the six rapes
being investigated. The problems associated with this technology were that no real national
database that was established or in place for complete comparison, and the since the technology
was considered being fairly new it would require it to go through an

The Battle Of The Invasion Of Normandy After Marshal Montgomery blockaded Rommel, whose fame was generally known as the Desert Fox with the navy and the air force in the Strait of Sicily for more than 100 days, the Allies won the North African Campaign on May 13, 1943. As the Allies freed for further action with the victories of about 250,000 German and Italian troops surrendered on the north coast of Africa, the British and the American strategists were facing two options as their huge army quartered in the southern Mediterranean (www.history.com). One of the option was put forward by the American chief, suggesting that the Allies should transfer their forces north for the impending invasion of Europe from the English Channel. Even though this suggestion was disapproved by the English chief who held the opinion that the Allies should strike the Europe from the southern Italy, this strategy was later known as the Invasion of Normandy that completely helped the Allies win the WW II. The option that the British chief favor for finally became the strategy of the Allies first step invasion in Europe because it not only utilized the fighter cover from air bases on British Malta, 60 miles south of Sicily, but also saved the Allies shipping to the English Channel as the American chief suggested that. (Canon Define, 2013 Literature included in the Canon, shapes values that are taught within society. With the influence that literature has on society, why does Australia not have their own Canon? The answer to this; because no traditional scholars recognise Australia as having their own identity. Literature could introduce the idea of giving Australia an identity. Benetton Sportssystem is the fastest growing division of Benetton group and it already represent 21,3% of turnover[6]. These films seek to bring stories into the visual spectrum, so that we can not only learn these stories but also get the feel of what the people went through. Defiance written by Nechama Tec, tells the stories of the Bielski Brothers and their struggle for survival in the second World War. The Bielski Brothers created a community in the woods under the leadership of Tuvia Bielski, a community that welcome all and provided for those trying to escape the violent oppression of the Third Reich. A film adaptation by the same name directed by Edward Zwick, starring Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber attempt to bring this story into the theatrical world. While entertaining the film adaptation of Defianceonly provides a snapshot of the events that happened to Jews and others in and around NowogrГіdek and Lida in the German Occupied Poland. One of the failing of the film adaptation is that it fails to bring the real stories in the same way the book does. The book was written through historical study, but as well as through interview of the people that lived in the Bielski otriad. These people throughout the book provide commentary on the many events that took place within the otriad. Furthermore, years of economic strife in the United States have invited a cycle of povertyto predetermine the lives of children in poverty stricken families, where they are raised with insufficient care and inadequate resources in unstable environments. In accordance to Dorothy Roberts, professor of Law and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, Foster Care addresses family economic deprivation with child removal rather than services and financial resources. I have always looked at things from a different perspective. I believe student athletes should be a leader to their peers and in their community. For starters, I believe that student athletes should be a leader to their peers and in their community through attitude and hustle. This seems like it would be normal for someone that is seen as the face of their school, but often times these two things can come low on some athletes list of priorities. In school, instead of being the typical jock personality, student athletes should be the ones that portray a positive and caring attitude towards their peers. On the field/court, student athletes should always give their all. A typical Latin American religious community heavily relies on religion to provide a moral framework to guide and protect its citizens. However, projecting religion in the light of perfection is superficial. In actuality, it often contains flaws underneath its idealistic teachings. The townspeople greet the bishop in an overwhelming manner, creating a strong contrast against the neglectful attitude of the bishop: But the Bishop didn t stop and then the band of musicians started to play the bishop s anthem, and the cocks began to crow in their baskets and aroused all the other roosters in town. (18) g By staying on the boat, the bishop creates a physical distance that further advocates the barrier between the people and the Church, and ultimately affects their religious devotions. These actions of the bishop do not earn him respect as a person but only as an empty shell of authority, another defect in the practical result of religious doctrines. Hence Placida Linero refers to him as the son of the worst kind of mother (127). Religion also becomes less a symbol of ultimate priority and spirituality amongst the younger generation. This book is a condensed but altogether new version of Flexner s previous four volume biography of George Washington. This smaller scale book is well written, and explores Washingtonas the human being behind the legendary icon (New York Times Book Review) to bring the reader to a closer relation to a man removed by time and history. Of time and history, GeorgeWashington had a great deal more of it which Flexner had to cover. TSUNAMI WHAT ARE THEY? 5. Tsunamis are not wind generated waves. Rather, they are shallow water waves, with long periods (time between two sucessional waves) and wave lengths (distance between two sucessional waves). The wind generated swell one sees at a California beach, for example, spawned by a storm out in the Pacific and rhythmically rolling in might have a period of about 10 seconds and a wave length of 150 m. A tsunami, on the other hand, can have a wavelength in excess of 100 kilometer and period on the order of one hour. As a result of their long wave lengths, tsunamis behave as shallow water waves . A wave becomes a shallow water wave when the ratio between the water depth and its wave length gets very small. Shallow water waves move at a speed that is equal to the square root of the product of the acceleration of gravity and the water depth. In the Pacific Ocean, where the typical water depth is about 4,000 meter, a tsunami travels at about 200 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A person should have the desire to serve others, in order to be a servant leader. The following paper will address several key components of the servant leadershipphilosophy related to the book: The Servant: A Simple Story About the True Essence of Leadership, written by James C. History of Servant Leadership The philosophy of servant leadership began with Robert K. Greenleaf in 1977. He first came about the idea of servant leadership while reading Journey to the East by Herman Hesse (Keith, 2016). This is a story of a group of travelers who were served by a man named Leo. He performed their menial chores and lifted their spirits with his song and his spirit (Keith, 2016). Leo disappeared one day, throwing the travelers into disarray (Keith, 2016). This ended the journey of the travelers. Many years later, one of the travelers saw Leo in a new job role as the head of the order that once sponsored the journey (Keith, 2016). Once a servant, ... Another noteworthy attribute that can be associated with music is its nature as an experience good. According to the definition by Shapiro and Varian, (1988), music can be classified as an experience good since it needs to be experienced to know what it is. (Takahata,0:24:25) In this scene, Seita brings everything he has left from his home and give the food to his aunt. This scene reveals how much honor and pride it brings to a family just by having a family member in the navy. You need nourishment. You can t be a soldier if you don t grow up healthy. (Takahata,0:36:35). This is a scene that connects to the other two references. Here, the Aunt shows her expectations of Seita to become another honorable soldier like his father. In this scene, The aunt convinces Seita to trade her mother s kimonos(traditional Japanese dress) for white rice, a privileged food during the war. It seems that only Setsuko understood the sentimental value of the dresses when she tried stopping Seita from trading them. The last objects with sentimental value that he was able to hold on to until the end was his father s cap and picture. Looking back when Mr. Minkus asked what 5 things would I bring a picture of my family just made that list. I thought having a phone on that list was not a bad idea at all. I would argue that a phone and other items of high value to society we re actually the best things to be on that list. Just like how Seita burying his mother s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Linux Network Name Space Essay Contents Linux Network Name Spaces2 Overview2 Linux Name Spaces2 Linux Network Name Space2 Network Name Space Use Cases2 Network Name Space Example2 Summary2 References3 Linux Network Name Spaces Overview In this paper we will discuss the Linux Network Name Space. First, the concept of namespaces will be described along with an overview of the default name spaces available in the Linux operating system. The Linux Network Name Space is a key enabler for some high profile virtualization technologies including OpenStack and Docker. Linux Name Spaces Linux consists of the following six namespaces: Network Network Namespace PID Process Namespace Mount Filesystem Namespace User User Namespace IPC Interprocess Communication Namespace UTS Host and NIS Namespace Linux namespaces can be traced back to early UNIX technologies called chroot, process jails controlled where access is controlled with cgroups. The concept of a namespace is to isolate processes from other processes on the system. This concept evolved into namespaces that are created with clone() system call and manipulated with the setns() and unshare() system calls. The clone() system call is used when creating child namespace from a parent or root namespace. As the name would suggest this creates a clone of an existing stack. The setns() system call is used to join a namespace. The unshare() system call is used for moving processes into a namespace, as the name suggests the process ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Arranged Marriage Sociology When comparing many sociological perspectives and theories against the idea of arranged marriages in India there are many conclusions that can be drawn. In specific, feminism, functionalism, and the conflict theory all point out very interesting facts. Some of these theories do a much better job in terms of accounting for this phenomena; which is not surprising as we looks at the long and detailed history of the subject. However, there is no sole theory that can truly be linked to account for the total occurrence of such a subject. As you will see, there are many factors that come into play when an arranged marriagetakes place. Not only are the couple being married affected, but the families of both the man and the woman are traditionally... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory is focused on the inequalities of different groups in a society, and on the level of power associated to these groups (Mooney, 2000). In the case of arranged marriages in India, there can be said to be many groups that both contribute and are created with unequal power through the process. To begin with, the parents potentially hold the future of their child in their hands as they are the ones who choose the significant other (Sandhya, 2013). In the interest of wealth, power and security, most families choose a person with a significant amount of higher status in the society because through the marriage, ties between the families strengthen and so do both of their overall prestige (Sandhya, 2013). It can be said that families marry into one another, and this creates economic inequalities as these groups are formed. This idea of marriage being a family affair all starts with people who hold more power than others, the parents versus the child, and end by creating an even larger group that differs from many other others in that country (Sandhya, 2013). Overall, I believe that the conflict theory can be said to best describe the idea of arranged marriages because of the nature that encompasses the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hobbit Once Mihaela Mihailova s article, You Were Not So Very Different from a Hobbit Once : Motion Capture as an Estrangement Device in Peter Jackson s Lord of the Rings Trilogy applies the Russian Formalists concept of defamiliarization to The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Mihailova argues that, according to Russian Formalist Viktor Shklovsky, the point of art is to offer a different perspective on the piece of art s subject; art takes something that is familiar and reimagines it in a way that is new and unfamiliar. This article discusses how the human face and body is defamiliarized in the creation of the creature Gollum by using motion capture to record the movements and expressions of actor Andy Serkis. His body and face are then distorted and animated to create Gollum. The article successfully applies the theory of Russian Formalism to the film... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of these contribute to Gollum s otherness (Mihailova, 8). Mihailova spends about three pages discussing how motion capture has defamiliarized the concept of acting, specifically as how it relates to Serkis performance as Gollum. Not only is her argument here interesting and worthy of attention, it also contributes to her overall argument and application of Formalism. Motion capture is a wonderful defamiliarization tool, as she has illustrated in the article; this technology does lead the defamiliarization of other things as well, such as acting. Mihailova reaches the conclusion that motion capture as a defamiliarization device is a way to look inwards and explore what it is that makes us human; at the same time, it also provides society with a way to analyze self representation. Her conclusion is the end of a successful argument and application of Formalism. She picks out the themes of the films and examines how defamiliarization communicates these ... In this case, health deficiencies are results of financial barriers, lack of reliable transportation, as well as low medical knowledge. SCCA must implement ways to minimize these barriers in order to target a large population. Challenges: The SCCA faces many difficulties with patients attempting to reach the care necessary. Travel times for reaching main clinics, such as the South Lake Union can prove to be decimating patients seeking care. For example, patients can go to clinics through Northwest Hospital and Evergreen Hospital, but some patients are in need of care from the southern cities and it requires them to travel into Seattle. Likewise, the ability to expand clinic facilities and satellite sites is a complex and expensive undertaking, but in some cases, it must be done. Betrayal In Macbeth Essay Regarded as the darkest and most powerful work of Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Macbeth (1606), follows the corruption of high nobility and the potent consequences that come with choosing evil over good. Shakespeare tells the story of a courageous Scottish gentleman named Macbeth, the Thane of Glamis, who receives a prophecy from three witches that he will become the Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland. Consumed by this insight and overwhelming ambition, Macbeths actions snowball into a plot of blood, madness, betrayal and the supernatural. The Other Side Of The River By Alex Kotlowitz Tiefenbach 1 Benjamin Tiefenbach Professor Ned Watts IAH 207 17 March 2015 Twin Cities, Twin Races Reading the book, The Other Side of the River, by Alex Kotlowitz, the author writes about the relationship between two towns in Michigan, and the death of a young boy named Eric McGinnis. The two towns, Benton Harbor and St. Joseph, are called the Twin Cities , but are ironically not related in any way. St. Joseph is 95 percent white, while Benton Harbor is impoverished and is 92 percent black. Throughout the book Kotlowitz questions the residents from both towns and how they are affected by the environment around them. The author also starts with the climax on the first page of the book the death of Eric, and uses this as an technique to tell the story of the disagreements between the two towns. With the murder of Eric, Kotlowitz identifies the climax at the beginning of the book and how it has been affecting the two towns which are physically only two and a half miles apart, and the river that flows between them only being a quarter of a mile wide. St. Joseph is a rich area while Benton Harbor is in poverty. This is relevant to the state of Michigan because many bodies of people migrate to certain regions of the state and are easily divided by different cultures and beliefs. Even with a small river providing the gap between these two regions, Michigan is known for its divided groups of people. With this division, the death of Eric with his drowning in the river resided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We will discuss an overview of some of the essential elements in conducting utilizing this DNA evidence and its repercussions. This case signified the first time in the United Sates that DNAevidence was actually admissible in court proceedings during a criminal trial. In 1986, in a neighborhood around the Orlando, Florida area a series of violent rapes had the city on edge. Due to the brief period that Hodge had been allowed to see her attacker, the prosecution felt that stronger evidence was needed to prove a connection. The brief 6 second glimpse that the victim Nancy Hodge obtained during her ordeal wasn t considered viable enough for trial purposes (Lewis). This relatively new forensic investigation technic involving the use of DNA fingerprinting was in its infancy and was pioneered by a British scientist might hold the answer to convicting the rapist. Because the mistrial of Andrews caught the prosecution off guard due to not having appropriate information or statistics of its viability, a new plan was needed. The prosecution felt that a stronger case against Andrews was needed to proceed in court. The prosecutor contacted a colleague familiar with principles of the DNA evidence in England for guidance. He then contacted a company in New York used to develop methods of DNA profilingor fingerprinting for assistance. Once the results of testing were completed in this case, it positively matched two of the six rapes being investigated. The problems associated with this technology were that no real national database that was established or in place for complete comparison, and the since the technology was considered being fairly new it would require it to go through an ...
