Erno Rubik was born in 1944 in Budapest, Hungary. He graduated from the Technical University in Budapest and became a professor at the Budapest College of Applied Arts, where he designed and built a prototype of the Rubik's Cube while searching for a good task for his students. During the 1980s, he was the editor of a puzzle and game journal and later founded the Rubik Studio to design furniture and games. The Rubik's Cube records include the fastest times for single, average, one-handed, and feet solving.
