This document summarizes activities and projects undertaken by students at Riga 22nd Secondary School in Latvia from November 2015 to February 2016 related to sustainability and partner countries. The students participated in several projects including designing a logo, learning about partner countries, creating a mock green city, researching water resources, and promoting recycling at their school. They visited locations like a water supply museum, treatment facilities, and a sawmill to learn more about these topics hands-on and help raise environmental awareness in their community.

 The competition took place November and December 2015.

 December 2015 – February 2016
 Students were split into 6 groups –
 urban greening, leisure, sports infrastructure
 Infrastructure of residence, education and public
service infrastructure
 energy resources
 eco-construction materials
 water resources, its use, treatment and reuse
 ecological transport

 The theoretical research has been modeled and presented among
students

9. Water research
 Riga Water Supply Museum
Operates since 1988 and provides information about water supply
in Riga for three centuries. Water Supply in Riga (1663-1863)

 Three units of cyclopean steal engine. They were expluateted until
1950, and then 10 years were as a reserve.

they brought the seeds from

To see how the water is
purified we visited the
water treatment
facilities in the Valmiera
city, where we explored
all the stages of water
purification process.

In the science centre Z(in)OO we were explained
about physical properties of water. We had an
opportunity to get involved in conducting 6 different
experiments there

 The company realizes the cycle from pine seed to
high-quality wood products - furniture components
and boards

21. The Most Effective Processing Cycle
In the production process surplus the following
materials are obtained:
 containers for plastic production;
 cellulose waist for cellulose production;
 fuel waist, sawdust for fuel production;
peel for mocha production
 the rest part is used for the production of heat
 in the combustion process the ashes are used as
fertilizer and for seed plantations

22. Genetically Valuable Pine Seed Plantation
This is the pride of the company. The plantation
consists of three Latvian genetically most valuable
populations of pine trees

 There are four greenhouses - a total area of 3840 m2
 Plants growing in the open air site - 9000 m2
 Bred each year about 1.5 million plants:
 pine 77.2%
 spruce 10.9%
 birch 6.5%
 alder 4.0%
 larch 1.4%

 There are 22 paper collecting boxes in the school
 We collect all unnecessary described writing paper (notebooks, diaries, planners,
notepads, albums), old catalogs, brochures, newspapers, magazines, books,
cardboard boxes, paper packages, and other paper products
 We get A4 paper
(100 kg recycled paper = 1000 pieces of A4 paper)
 Statistics:
 14 trees = 1 t of paper
 1 tone of paper = 30 thousand conventional
notebooks
