QUIT SMOKING
It is important that everyone should know
that smoking is harmful and for extreme
situation it may cause serious illness. The
motive behind this piece is to expose the
people to the unseen effects of smoking
on a person’s health.
QUIT SMOKING
3D Installation
Use minimalist and existence
of the smoking area
State that a smoker may look
physically healthy but not
inside
Concepts
Physical Appearance
First impression
Visual preference
Self perception
 Verbal Messages
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
 The contrasting physical appearance is
used to distinguish the lungs of the two
types; smokers and non-smokers.
 The smoker’s lung is depicted as the
dirtier, more damaged-looking lung
whereas the non-smoker’s lung is
depicted as bright, clean and healthy.
 Non-verbal communication is used in this
context to provide a visual form to
communicate the differences between
the two lifestyles.
FIRST IMPRESSION
The first scene that strikes the
viewer’s eye is the contrasting
condition between the two
lungs.
Viewers are disgusted by the
lung on the left, as opposed to
the healthy lung on the right.
Through the slogan, viewers then
realize these are lungs belonging
to two different people, the
smoker and the non-smoker.
VERBAL COMMUNICATION
The slogan sends the message,
while the visual of the deteriorated
lung reinforces it in the viewer’s
mind.
Forces smokers to re-evaluate their
habits by reminding them about
the effects of smoking that they
cannot see (“healthy on the
outside, but not inside”).
VISUAL PREFERENCE
The first response of the viewer
toward the mural is disgust toward
the smoker’s lung, preferring the
healthier looking non-smoker’s
lung.
The visual preference of the viewer
towards the healthy lung
discourages the viewer to smoke,
wanting to relate to the image of
their healthy, non-smoker’s lung.
SELF-PERCEPTION
The image of the smoker’s lung makes the
viewer (especially smokers) reflect on their
habits, giving them a glimpse of what could
be happening to their lungs that they
cannot see.
Smokers in particular are alerted to the fact
that while they may look and feel healthy,
the real effects are the ones that they
cannot see.
This self-reflection encourages smokers to
stop smoking.
