Help Open the Doors to Hope
Dear <Salutation>,
Imagine what life is like for a homeless woman in Baltimore in
December—cold, wet, scary, hopeless.
Because of you, a formerly homeless woman will put that experience
behind her, and the Women’s Housing Coalition will provide a warm, dry
and safe place for her to stay for the first time in years. Because of you,
she will not only have a home and access to supportive resources, but she
will have hope. This holiday season the Women’s Housing Coalition and
our 130 women and children are asking you to continue your financial
support. We need your help to open the doors to hope.
Last December Donna stepped through the doors of the Women’s Housing
Coalition for the first time. Years back she had lost her home through
divorce and had been living from one bed or shelter to the next—until she
found the Women’s Housing Coalition. Here she began to open the doors
to a better life. From the moment Donna received her welcome basket, she
started utilizing our individualized services to work towards a more stable
life. The bus pass you helped provide became instrumental as Donna
navigated getting back on her feet. She rode the bus to referral services—
making her food stamps last longer, getting gently used clothing, and
seeking support to better her health and finances. With guidance learning
how to use in-house computers you helped us purchase, she studied for
and received her SerfSave Food Certification, which will pave the way for
a job in food service.
Talking about her experience at the Women’s Housing Coalition, Donna
stated “I’ve been through hell and high water...I appreciate these people
here...The best thing that I’ve experienced since I’ve been here is being
introduced to Mr. Ramsay (her case manager)...He got a heart of gold...he
makes me want to be better.” As Mr. Ramsay works with Donna and other
residents towards a more stable life for the rest of their lives, your support
makes it all possible—bus passes, case management services, welcome
baskets, life-skills building sessions and more.
Your support makes it possible for us to open the doors to a better life for
our women and children—a life with hope. Please continue to stand with
us and all the women and children we serve by sending your gift to the
Women’s Housing Coalition today. Donna and all our residents join me in
thanking you for giving them not only a home but a place to restore their
hope and dignity. Thank you.
We can’t do this without you,
Beth Benner
