Roman Stanek is a Czech technologist and entrepreneur who has founded three companies: NetBeans, a Java development tool company acquired by Sun in 1999; Systinet, a pioneer in SOA platforms acquired by HP in 2006; and Good Data, his current company focused on business intelligence in the cloud. Some of his lessons learned include that it takes time to become an overnight success, that building companies in Europe is possible by focusing on community rather than size or protocols, and that tough times can create strong companies.
