• Bebop- New genre in the 40’s. Combined
  rhythm and blues
• Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington,
  and Benny Goodmen…famous vocalists
• Lots of songs were about the war
Radio
• Children cartoons were converted into radio
  shows
• Popular hosts Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Costello,
  Abbot
• Unique styles of shows made them
  recognizable
Broadway
• Broadway was created before the 40’s but
  never caught on until the early 40’s
• Something for the boys”, “State of the Art”,
  and “Lady in the Dark”
• Lots of the shows and musicals were about
  the war
Television
• Film was in color by this time, it was really
  catching on
• Cartoons were very popular, “porky pig” and
  “bugs bunny”
Movies
• Most movies in the 1940’s were influenced by the
  war
• Michael Curtiz,a director from America who had
  made several war related films, including “Dive
  Bomber”.
• Within 6 months of the bombing of peral harbor
