Since the loophole-free Bell experiments of 2020 and the Nobel prizes in physics of 2022, critics of Bell's work have retreated to the fortress of super-determinism. Now, super-determinism is a derogatory word - it just means "determinism". Palmer, Hance and Hossenfelder argue that quantum mechanics and determinism are not incompatible, using a sophisticated mathematical construction based on a subtle thinning of allowed states and measurements in quantum mechanics, such that what is left appears to make Bell's argument fail, without altering the empirical predictions of quantum mechanics. I think however that it is a smoke screen, and the slogan "lost in math" comes to my mind. I will discuss some other recent disproofs of Bell's theorem using the language of causality based on causal graphs. Causal thinking is also central to law and justice. I will mention surprising connections to my work on serial killer nurse cases, in particular the Dutch case of Lucia de Berk and the current UK case of Lucy Letby.

Deep Behavioral Phenotyping in Systems Neuroscience for Functional Atlasing a...Ana Luísa Pinho
Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) provides means to characterize brain activations in response to behavior. However, cognitive neuroscience has been limited to group-level effects referring to the performance of specific tasks. To obtain the functional profile of elementary cognitive mechanisms, the combination of brain responses to many tasks is required. Yet, to date, both structural atlases and parcellation-based activations do not fully account for cognitive function and still present several limitations. Further, they do not adapt overall to individual characteristics. In this talk, I will give an account of deep-behavioral phenotyping strategies, namely data-driven methods in large task-fMRI datasets, to optimize functional brain-data collection and improve inference of effects-of-interest related to mental processes. Key to this approach is the employment of fast multi-functional paradigms rich on features that can be well parametrized and, consequently, facilitate the creation of psycho-physiological constructs to be modelled with imaging data. Particular emphasis will be given to music stimuli when studying high-order cognitive mechanisms, due to their ecological nature and quality to enable complex behavior compounded by discrete entities. I will also discuss how deep-behavioral phenotyping and individualized models applied to neuroimaging data can better account for the subject-specific organization of domain-general cognitive systems in the human brain. Finally, the accumulation of functional brain signatures brings the possibility to clarify relationships among tasks and create a univocal link between brain systems and mental functions through: (1) the development of ontologies proposing an organization of cognitive processes; and (2) brain-network taxonomies describing functional specialization. To this end, tools to improve commensurability in cognitive science are necessary, such as public repositories, ontology-based platforms and automated meta-analysis tools. I will thus discuss some brain-atlasing resources currently under development, and their applicability in cognitive as well as clinical neuroscience.

It is highly conserved process of posttranscriptional gene silencing by which double stranded RNA (dsRNA) causes sequence-specific degradation of mRNA sequences.
dsRNA-induced gene silencing (RNAi) is reported in a wide range of eukaryotes ranging from worms, insects, mammals and plants.
This process mediates resistance to both endogenous parasitic and exogenous pathogenic nucleic acids, and regulates the expression of protein-coding genes.

How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

Enrichr is a web-based gene list enrichment analysis tool that include gene sets libraries, an alternative way to rank enriched terms and various types of interactive visualization.
In ‘Libraries’ tab we provide a list of libraries we’ve created and use for analysis and sources of these libraries. To download a library press the red icon in rightmost column.
To find a gene of interest in these libraries you can use ‘Find a gene’ tab. Input name of gene or select it from the autocomplete list.
Then you gene of interest will be shown in categories tree-view. In libraries you can view relationships between this gene and terms.
Depending on your data format there’s three options. BED format, quantitative set and regular gene list. To process your BED data select ‘choose file’ and upload your file.
In right field you can past quantitative gene set – set with weight for each gene in range from 0 to 1, where weight 0 discard the gene and 1 is maximum weight.
Or you could past here regular list of genes. If you don’t have one you could past an example gene set.
If you put a tick in checkbox ‘Contributed’ in the bottom left corner your list will be used in out crowdsourcing dataset.
To continue you have to enter a description of contributed gene set and click on the red arrow in the bottom right corner.
If you click on the sheet-shaped icon in the top right corner you can view list of submitted genes.
If you click on the share icon in the top right corner you’ll get a link on your dataset to return to it later or send it to your colleagues.
Libraries in Enrichr are divided into several categories with self-explanatory names.
Libraries that are represented in ‘Legacy’ category are not relevant as we already have latest versions. We have them as we don’t want people to lose their data and we want to let them compare their results between old and new data and update them.
Libraries form ‘Crowdsourcing’ category were created by crowd efforts.
Let’s return to analysis. These bars are sorted by combined score in descending order. The more bright and long a bar is – the more score is. Combined score is our alternative score for ranking enriched terms and its value is equal to log (p) * z. You can sort bar graph by different score methods by clicking on it.
Click the bars again and you’ll see them sorted by p-value which is computed using Fisher exact test
And once again. Now the bars are sorted by their rank based score. It is z-score computed by assessing the deviation from the expected rank.
If you click on the cog-shaped icon in the top right corner you can change the color scheme for bar graph, network and grid.
Table view gives you explicit view for p-value, z-score and combined score. You could sort terms in ascending or descending order by clicking on a header of a column. Also you can filter results by specific term by searching it.
Hover the pointer over name of term gives you a view list of genes that are associated with it.
And if you want to download the whole result of analysis in tab-delimited format by clicking the link ‘Export entries to table’.
In grid view all terms from a gene-set library are represented by squares on a grid which is organized based on the terms gene content similarity where an area of high similarity is made brighter. The grid can be clicked to set view where the enriched terms are highlighted with circles, colored from bright white to gray based on their p-values.
Z-score and p-value shows how dense the top ten elements are clustered on the grid.
In the network view top ten terms are displayed as a network where the nodes represent the enriched terms and the links represent the gene content similarity among the enriched terms.
Logging in and clicking on your user name in the top right corner gives you a view on your previously uploaded gene sets. You can filter results for a particular sets by searching them. Clicking on the set name will return you to analysis.
