GAIA-X creates a european cloud standard
It is a project to build a high-performance, competitive, secure and trustworthy
data infrastructure for Europe.
It promotes the development of cloud standards and open source software code
for cloud solutions (e.g. SCS).
It creates a system of standards for interoperability, portability and integration of
cloud services:
GAIA-X compatible services can run on any platform and can be freely
combined.
Organisations can choose between different providers on the market.
Operators are not dependent on individual platforms and their business
models.
Goal: Create a level playing field to lower market entry barriers and preserve
innovation potential.
5. Gaia-X in practise: SCS a sovereign cloud stack

6
Key Goals
Federation: ensuring interoperability,
distribution of services across different
platforms, portability of services
Data level: secure storage of data,
secure access, secure exchange
Infrastructure: security against data
access during processing, independent
of third party rights (It’s open source!)
But what about the network layer?
6. Secure, fast and resilient network for Gaia-X –
the final frontier

7
PaaS within the stack (e.g. Kubernetes, software catalogue)
Federation on application layer (e.g. SCS)
IaaS on premise or cloud service provider with local network access (any
Server/Virtualization layer)
Network layer outside of federation (QoS, Schengen Routing, resilience, real-time, mobile
networks)
Hardware layer (Zero trust, TPM, (e.g. Spiffy/Spire, TPM)

One data room distributed across Europe /
Lock-in free
The aim is to create a secure data space
across all layers (line, routing, cloud,
application), which includes application
awareness and can thus also react
dynamically to changed requirements within
the network.
9. Usecase digital gloves (and others)

Intelligent Gloves (part of Tellus Project)
Use Case "Intelligent Glove" [Mimetik]: Mimetik transfers the movement of
the hand through an intelligent glove with sensor technology into the digital
world (focus: Data Spaces). This allows hand movements to be integrated
into digital processes and can sometimes be used for three different
domains: Industry 4.0, Health (especially Telesurgery) and Smart Living
(especially Gaming). The sensor data is read locally, pre-processed, and
transported through the network to the destination to remotely control the
respective application in real time.
