Enjambment is a poetic device that allows a line to continue without punctuation at its break, creating a seamless flow in poetry. This technique is used by notable poets, such as Gwendolyn Brooks and John Donne, to enhance the musicality of their work. Examples from their poems illustrate how enjambment maintains continuity despite the presence of pauses, or caesura, within the lines.
