Suzanne Lagerweij - Influence Without Power - Why Empathy is Your Best Friend...Suzanne Lagerweij
This is a workshop about communication and collaboration. We will experience how we can analyze the reasons for resistance to change (exercise 1) and practice how to improve our conversation style and be more in control and effective in the way we communicate (exercise 2).
This session will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
Abstract:
Let’s talk about powerful conversations! We all know how to lead a constructive conversation, right? Then why is it so difficult to have those conversations with people at work, especially those in powerful positions that show resistance to change?
Learning to control and direct conversations takes understanding and practice.
We can combine our innate empathy with our analytical skills to gain a deeper understanding of complex situations at work. Join this session to learn how to prepare for difficult conversations and how to improve our agile conversations in order to be more influential without power. We will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
In the session you will experience how preparing and reflecting on your conversation can help you be more influential at work. You will learn how to communicate more effectively with the people needed to achieve positive change. You will leave with a self-revised version of a difficult conversation and a practical model to use when you get back to work.
Come learn more on how to become a real influencer!

Dreams are experiences
of imaginary images,
sounds, voices, words,
thoughts or sensations
during sleep. They
usually seem real while
your dream is taking
place. When you wake
up, you either don’t
remember it, or you
realize it never happened.
What are Dreams ?
4.
Scientists are still trying to find out
why we dream. There are many
theories, but none have actually
been scientifically proven.
There are two main theories as to
why we dream, The Physiological
theory and The Psychological
Theory.
The Physiological Theory focuses
on how our body, mainly the brain,
function during the REM stage of
sleep. This theory believes that we
dream to exercise the pathways
between brain cells. It also believes
that during the first two years in
ones life.
Why do we dream ?
5.
The sleep cycle comprises of four stages and lasts for
about 90-120 minutes.
Stage 1:
From 5 to 10 minutes, the body and muscles start to
relax.
Stage 2:
Your brain activity, heart rate and breathing start to
slow down. you're beginning to reach a state of total
relaxation.
The Sleep Cycle.
6.
Stage 3:
You get deeper into sleep.
Stage 4:
Stage of sleep when you dream. It is also referred to as
"active sleep" or REM sleep.
The sleep cycle repeats itself on an average of 3 to 5 times
per night, may repeat as many as 7 times.
This is how a person dreams several times in one night.
The Sleep Cycle.
8.
When you dream, your
body faces some changes.
Your adrenaline rises, your
blood pressure increases,
and your heart beats faster.
During a typical lifetime,
people spend an average
of six years dreaming.
12% of people only dream in
black and white.
Facts about dreams.
9.
Sleep might be disturbed
during the night but the
mind interprets the
disturbance and makes it a
part of a dream.
Five minutes after the end
of the dream, 50% of the
content is forgotten, after
ten minutes 90% is
forgotten.
Animals also Dream.
Facts about dreams.
10.
Sleep Paralysis : Scientists have claimed that brain contains a built-
in a function of paralyzing your body while dreaming. It disables the
movement of body parts so that you don’t get practically involved
into something while dreaming. The brain mostly paralyzes the
body when an individual is in “REM” state of sleep.
Facts about dreams.
11.
Sleep Walking : It has been recently discovered that sleep
walking is the practical version of Dreams. People who are found
to be extra emotionally involved in the dreams used to walk
while sleeping. However most of the people while sleepwalking
hurts other. Many cases that were reported due to sleepwalking
were of serious crimes like murder, stabbing, hitting or attacking
someone.
Facts about dreams.
