Name: Eduard Mora
 The Jazz is a mixed music. Is the African rhythm and European music combination.
 The characteristic of this style is improvisation.
 This style was born in the United States when the African slaves came to work in the
cotton plantations whose owners had a white European culture with traditional classical
and folk music.
 The black slaves learned about the Christian religion. They sang in churches with European
harmonies of whites, so born Gospel
 BLUES outside the churches, In plantations and street.
 The Blues, means sadness, melancholy, and being "blues" is to feel sadness of a situation
that has no solution
 Use a basic twelve-bar musical, uses so-called "blue notes", an alteration of the third and
seventh notes of the musical scale, also called "blues scale."
 In 1865, after the Civil War, slaves were declared free.
 At about that time, a musical style born in Saint Louis in 1870, gained in popularity. It was a
dynamic piano style dance, the RAGTIME whose scores were recorded in cardboard rolls
player piano or pianola
 The Jazz was born in the late 19th century in New Orleans.
 In New Orleans it was customary to accompany funerals with music band. They did slow,
sad and slow to go to the cemetery and cheerful way to return, causing people were
dancing behind them.
 These bands were so popular that some and mafias started recruiting in the brothels to
play dance music.
 In 1917, the authorities closed the brothels of Storyville district of New Orleans, where
they played, and the bands went to the north, the cities of Chicago and New York,
 In the thirties the Jazz had a higher professional level and shown great soloists improvising
following the harmonic scheme for each song. Here appeared the "Swing“, Big Band, and
some characters like Ellintong Duke, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Louis Armstrong.
 It was music to dance in the great halls or small rooms
 When World War II ended, other styles such as Jazz Bebop appeared. This style was
invented by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie.
 It was a rather more intellectual, artistic style was not to dance because it was very
fast. This was a revolution and It evolved to many jazz musicians
 In 1947 several changes occur and revolutionize the Jazz, the "Bebop" to "Cool" to
"Hard Bop", and "Free Jazz
 Some Latin musicians adopted jazz and was born styles like Latin Jazz and Bossa Nova
in Brazil
 In this era had also appeared on Rock, Pop and Jazz lost popularity and few people
heard this music
 At present, the Jazz became academic music to be very complex and is teaching in
universities. No selling jazz records but you can download on the internet
