This story is about two child laborers in India - Saheb-e-Alam, a young Bangladeshi refugee boy who scavenges garbage in Semapua, and Mukesh, a boy from Firozabad who works in the glass bangle industry. Both boys' childhoods have been stolen from them due to socio-economic conditions that force them into labor instead of allowing them to attend school. The author Anees Jung aims to eliminate child labor through her book by advocating for children's education and enforcement of strict laws against child labor by the government. While some progress has been made, many children still experience exploitation through the worst forms of child labor.
