• NAME OF THIS TOPIC IS QUITE SELF-EXPLANATORY. HERE, YOU ARE
GIVEN SOME INCOMPLETE SENTENCES AND ASKED TO COMPLETE
THOSE WITH PHRASES OR CLAUSES.
• WHAT TYPE OF PHRASES OR CLAUSES WOULD BE USED DEPENDS ON
THE SENTENCE STRUCTURE AND TO UNDERSTAND THE SENTENCE
STRUCTURE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIMPLE,
COMPLEX AND COMPOUND SENTENCE.
• MORE SPECIFICALLY , KNOWLEDGE OF CONDITIONALS, ADDING
CLAUSES BY USING LINKERS IS NECESSARY TO COMPLETE A SENTENCE.
• APART FROM THIS, YOU NEED TO MEMORIZE SOME COMMON

PHRASES AND CLAUSES
• WHAT IS A PHRASE
• PRHASE হচ্ছে অচ্ছেক গুলা WORD- এর সমষ্ঠি ককন্তু একটা SENTENCE-এর মত এচ্ছের ককাে
SUBJECT অথবা VERB থাচ্ছক ো ।
• WHAT IS A CLAUSE ?
• CLAUSE হচ্ছে অচ্ছেক গুচ্ছলা WORD-এর সমষ্ঠি যার একটা SUBJECT ও একতা VERB আচ্ছে।
• NOW, SOME RULES FOR COMPLETING SENTENCES ARE GIVEN BELOW:

Rules of Completing Sentence
Rule no.-01: Too ---- to অথবা Enough ---- to
Too —— to অথবা enough ——- to বযবহার কচ্ছর simple sentence গঠে করা হয়।
মচ্ছে রাখচ্ছত হচ্ছব কয, adjective বা adverb-এর পূচ্ছব েtoo বচ্ছস এবং পচ্ছর enough
বচ্ছস। তাোড়া noun-এর পূচ্ছব েtoo much/too many/enough বচ্ছস।
Example and Structure:
a) Sub + verb + too + adj / adv + (for + personal
object) + to + verb-এর base form + অেযােয
Example: 1. He works too slowly to complete in time.
2. It is too interesting a matter for us to overlook.

b) Sub + verb + adj / adv + enough + (for + personal
object) + to + verb-এর base form + অেযােয
Example: 1. Raju is strong enough to defeat anybody.
2. Jony had enough intelligence to get love.
c) Sub + verb + enough / too much / too many + noun
+ (for + personal object) + to + verb-এর base form +
অেযােয
Example: 1. He has too much money to purchase
anything
anytime.

Rule no.-02: So ——- that
So ——- that বযবহার কচ্ছর complex sentence গঠে করা হয়। মচ্ছে রাখচ্ছত হচ্ছব
কয, that-এর পচ্ছরর clause-ষ্ঠটচ্ছত মূল Verb-এর base form-এর পূচ্ছব েtense ও অথ ে
অেুযায়ী can/could/cannot /could not বচ্ছস।
a) Sub1 + verb + so + adj / adv + that + sub2 + can
/could / cannot / could not + verb-এর base form +
অেযােয
Example: 1. He is so expert that he can solve it easily.
2. The patient was so weak that he could not walk.

Rule no.-03: So that অথবা in order that
So that অথবা in order that বযবহার কচ্ছর complex sentence গঠে করা হয়। মচ্ছে
রাখচ্ছত হচ্ছব কয, that-এর পচ্ছরর clause-ষ্ঠটচ্ছত মূল verb-এর base form-এর পূচ্ছব ে
tense ও অথ েঅেুযায়ী can/could/may/might/will বচ্ছস। উচ্ছেখয কয, কেশ্চিত অচ্ছথ ে
can/could এবং সম্ভাবো অচ্ছথ েmay/might বচ্ছস।
a) Sub1 + verb ——- + so that / in order that + sub2 +
can /could / may / might / will + verb-এর base form
+ অেযােয
Example: 1. The girl read attentively so that she could
pass.

Rule no.-04: Provided / provided that / providing that / if /
whether / in case
Provided/provided that/providing that/if/whether /in case এর অথ েযকে। এষ্ঠট
বযবহার কচ্ছর complex sentence গঠে করা হয়। মচ্ছে রাখচ্ছত হচ্ছব কয, এচ্ছের পচ্ছর
একষ্ঠট clause বকসচ্ছয় sentence-ষ্ঠট complete করচ্ছত হচ্ছব।
a) Sub1 + verb ——- + provided / provided that /
providing that / if / whether / in case + sub2 + verb
+ অেযােয
Example: 1. The plane will take off provided the
weather is good.
2. She will shine in life provided that she
works hard.

Rule no.-05: Lest ---- should অথবা In case --- should
Lest অথবা in case শচ্ছের অথ েপাচ্ছে ভয় হয় কয (for fear that) / যকে ঘচ্ছট (by
chance)। কযচ্ছহতু এষ্ঠট negative অথ ে প্রোে কচ্ছর তাই lest বা in case দ্বারা কয
clause- ষ্ঠট আরম্ভ হয় তাচ্ছত no বা not বচ্ছস ো। মচ্ছে রাখচ্ছত হচ্ছব কয, lest অথবা
in case- এর পচ্ছরর clause ষ্ঠটচ্ছত মূল verb- এর base form – এর পূচ্ছব েঅথ েঅেুযায়ী
should (কেত্রকবচ্ছশচ্ছে might/would) বচ্ছস। তচ্ছব কেত্রকবচ্ছশচ্ছে এবং subjunctive
mood- এর কেচ্ছত্র should / might / would বচ্ছস ো।
a) Sub1 + verb ----- + lest / in case + sub2 + should
/ might / would + verb-এর base form + অেযােয
Example: 1. I wrote down her address in case I should
forget it.
2. They kept watch all night lest robbers

b) Sub1 + verb ----- + lest / in case + sub2 + verb এর
base form + অেযােয
Example: 1. We must take immediate action lest, it
grow worse.

Rule no.-06: Unless / If not / Except if
Unless / if not / except if শচ্ছের অথ েযকে ো। কযচ্ছহতু এষ্ঠট negative অথ েপ্রোে
কচ্ছর তাই unless / if not / except if দ্বারা কয clause- ষ্ঠট আরম্ভ হয় তাচ্ছত অকতকরক্ত
no বা not বচ্ছস ো। মচ্ছে রাখচ্ছত হচ্ছব কয, unless / if not / except if – এর পচ্ছরর
clause- ষ্ঠটর আচ্ছগ বা পচ্ছর সঙ্গকতপূর্ েআচ্ছরকষ্ঠট clause বযবহার কচ্ছর sentence-
ষ্ঠট complete করচ্ছত হচ্ছব।
a) Unless/Except if + sub1 + affirmative verb ---- + ,+
sub2 + verb ----.
Example: 1. Unless you start at once, you will miss the
train.
should come.

b) Sub1 + verb ----- + unless/except if + sub2 +
affirmative verb ------.
Example: 1. I’ll be back tomorrow except if there’s a
plane strike.
2. I’ll take the job unless the pay is too low.
c) Sub1 + verb ----- + if + sub2 + negative verb-
--.
Example: 1. My wife will be upset if I don’t get back
tomorrow.

Rule no.-07: Until এবং Till
Till এবং until প্রায় একই অচ্ছথ েবযবহৃত হয় বচ্ছল এচ্ছের কয ককােষ্ঠট বযবহার করা যায়।
Until শচ্ছের অথ েকয পয ে
ন্ত ো (till not) এবং till শচ্ছের অথ েকয পয ে
ন্ত (up to)। মচ্ছে রাখচ্ছত
হচ্ছব কয, until / till –এর পচ্ছর clause বযবহৃত ো হচ্ছল until / till দ্বারা একই অথ েপ্রকাশ
পায়। তচ্ছব কযচ্ছহতু until দ্বারা negative কবাধক অথ েপ্রকাশ পায় তাই until দ্বারা কয clause-
ষ্ঠট শুরু হয় কস clause- এ no বা not বচ্ছস ো। আবার till দ্বারা affirmative কবাধক অথ ে
প্রকাশ পায় বচ্ছল till দ্বারা কয clause- ষ্ঠট শুরু হয় কস clause- ষ্ঠট negative কেচ্ছয় করচ্ছত হয়।
a) Until / till + affirmative clause
Example: 1. Wait until the rain stops.

b) Till + negative clause
Example: 1. Await me till I do not come back.
2. My wife will wait till I do not telephone.
c) Till / until + word / phrase
Example: 1. I’ll wait until / till I hear from you.

Rule no.-08: As long as / So long as
As long as / so long as এর অথ েযতের্ পয ে
ন্ত। এ ধরচ্ছের sentence দ্বারা condition
প্রকাশ করা যায়। মচ্ছে রাখচ্ছত হচ্ছব কয, as long as / so long as এর পচ্ছর সাধারেত
affirmative clause বযবহৃত হয়।
a) Sub1 + verb ------- + as long as / so long as +
sub2 + affirmative verb ------.
Example: 1. I’ll remember that day as long as I live.
2. You may take my car so long as you drive
carefully.

Rule no.-09: It is time / It is high time
It is time / It is high time এর পচ্ছর infinitive phrase ককংবা past indefinite tense-এর clause উভয়ই
বযবহার করা যায়। তচ্ছব ককাে কাজ করার সষ্ঠঠক সময় হচ্ছয়চ্ছে বুঝাচ্ছত infinitive phrase বচ্ছস এবং
ককাে কাজ করার সষ্ঠঠক সময় ইচ্ছতামচ্ছধয পার হচ্ছয় কগচ্ছে তাই কবলম্ব ো কচ্ছর এ মুহূচ্ছতেই কাজষ্ঠট
শুরু করা উকিত বুঝাচ্ছোর জেয past indefinite tense-এর clause বযবহার করচ্ছত হয়। উচ্ছেখয কয, এ
ধরচ্ছের sentence দ্বারা present tense-এর অথ ে প্রকাশ পায়। It is time এর পকরবচ্ছতে It is high time
বযবহার করচ্ছল কবকশ কজার / গুরুত্ত্ব বুঝায়।
a) It is time / It is high time + (for + object)+ to +
verb-এর base form + অেযােয
Example: 1. It is time to start the work.
2. It is high time for us to attack the enemy.

b) It is time / It is high time + sub2 + verb-এর past
form + অেযােয
Example: 1. It’s high time they changed their eating
habits.
2. It’s time we earned our livelihood.

Rule no.-10: Let alone
Let alone এর অথ েহচ্ছলা “ভাবা যায় ো”, “এ কথা বলা কেিঃপ্রচ্ছয়াজে”, “কতা েূচ্ছরর কথা”
অথবা “তা আর এমেকক” ইতযাকে। Let alone দ্বারা সাধারেত negative অথ েপ্রকাশ
করচ্ছলও কেত্রকবচ্ছশচ্ছে affirmative অথ ে
ও প্রকাশ করচ্ছত পাচ্ছর।
a) Sub + negative verb + তুলনামূলক ছ াট বস্তু + কমা ( , ) + let alone +
তুলনামূলক বড় বস্তু ।
Example: 1. He can’t swim one kilometre, let alone
ten
kilometres.
2. She cannot visit a small town, let alone a
big city.

b) Sub + affirmative verb + তুলোমূলক বড় বস্তু + কমা ( ,
) + let alone + তুলোমূলক কোট বস্তু।
Example: 1. I can purchase ten shirts, let alone one
shirt.
2. Lisa may get first division, let alone third
division.
