...developed and introduced “Archer AgSTEM"
integrating aquaponics and state-of-the-art technology,
plus developed and introduced aquaponics-based
STEM curricula for grades K-12.

6. Planning Outreach
WHAT IS YOUR GOAL?
Who is your target audience?
Who and/or what are your resources?
What do you want your resources to do?
Start small....THINK BIG!
9. Funding Projects
THINK GLOBALLY, ACTIVATE LOCALLY
How can your project(s):
feed hungry people, teens, students
address social and environmental inequities
engage diverse cultures, backgrounds, abilities, ethnicities, ages
engage under-resoourced & under-represented communities
connect academics to real world challenges
provide hands-on experience (workforce development)
increase awareness of career opportunities
10. FY 2022: U.S. Department of Education Launches New Initiative to Support Career-
Connected Learning and Increase Job Pathways for Young Americans
FY 2023: U.S. Federal Budget proposal includes $1.4 billion for Career and Technical
Education (CTE) programs. This includes an increase of $20 million for CTE state grants
that would expand access to career-connected programs for more students.

11. Connecting Conservation to Kids
Connect the silos!
Who do you know …in a Federal or State agency? University, college or
local tech school? Public School? A nonprofit? City leaders?
14. If young people have been taught implicitly that people who
look like themselves are incapable and unimportant, doing
well in school has little meaning. Conversely, we know from
research in social psychology that having a strong positive
sense of ethnic identity and high racial awareness is linked
with young people’s mental health and achievement.
Feeling secure in who one is and to whom one is connected
provides the basis for making valuable contributions to
society and the environment.
21. Connecting Conservation to Kids
How do you create successful programming for teens?
Young people want to:
- do things that contribute and make a difference
- understand that what they're doing is important
- feel respected and valued
- be heard
- have choices
- have new experiences
- learn about career options
- see relevance in their academics
- do things in groups
- to be given space, time to relax
Make it fun – allow them to make decisions, make them
think! When possible GIVE THEM the “freedom” they're
eager for (let them problem solve!)
25. Offer loosely or even unstructured time outside...
....developing an emotional connection to nature is
critical for developing future conservationists
