- A huge recall of toys hurt m-Provise last year. Our company developed an inexpensive way to solve our problem and make it right for the customers who purchased these items, but our company needs to protect our brand and do more than just fix the toys. Some people think our company has gotten too big. Also, most employees were from Mankato and were proud to work at m-Provise, but now may be wondering if we care or are just looking to make and sell things.
- Encouraging teamwork, hard work, volunteerism, and responsibility would directly benefit m-Provise. Our customers would know that we care about them more than money, and our employees would also know that we care more than just about making and selling things. This can also boost our sales.
- One way to do this would be to encourage employees to spend part of their work week volunteering. This would not only give back to the community, but will also benefit the employees. I have researched many organizations and think that Immanuel St. Joseph’s-Mayo Health System would be a perfect organization for our employees to volunteer at. Employees could spend up to 10 percent of their work week volunteering there. Employees would have to apply for permission and their application would only be valid for one year. They would have to submit a report at the end of the fiscal year and then re-apply.
- Immanuel St. Joseph’s- Mayo Health System is a nonprofit health care system that provides preventative, urgent, and chronic care services to over 260,000 people. They have four hospitals and 17 clinics. One is located in Mankato and was established in 1898. They are committed to providing exceptional care to every patient, every day. They are also an affiliate of Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Their primary value is that the needs of a patient come first. They employ over 2,500 people which also include 394 physicians. The first hospital in Mankato began in 1886 when a man donated $8,000 to the city to build a place where poor people could come and be treated free of charge. After one year the sisters purchased it and opened of St. Joseph’s Hospital. This is a great facility to be associated with.
- Immanuel St. Joseph has many opportunities for volunteer work. They need people to donate their time in many areas. These include gift shop, information desk, floor duty, outpatient escort, ICU lounge hose, step force, art/music cart, office assistant, heart center information desk, volunteer chaplain, total joint volunteer and emergency room volunteer. There are multiple shifts that employees could take to best fit their schedule.
- Volunteering at Immanuel St. Joseph’s- Mayo Health System is very easy. There are two ways to apply to volunteer. One way is to call 507-385-2678. They will assist you in becoming a volunteer. Another way is to go to www.mayohealthsystem.org. You should click on Volunteer Opportunities. Then, you can click on Volunteer Application. You can print this out and return it to the address listed on the form. The application will ask several questions. They will want to know your name, address, etc. You will also need two references. They will ask you for volunteer history, availability, skills, and why you are interested.
- I recommend that m-Provise participates in my Corporate Citizenship Initiative proposal. By volunteering in these positions, it would bring a positive image to m-Provise from the community and employees’ perspective. Donating 10 percent of their work week would greatly benefit the community. This can give employees a work-life balance. It teaches employees to work hard at things they value. They will learn teamwork and it could lead them to volunteer more often. It could improve employee performance. It will also increase job satisfaction, attitude and morale. This will help improve communication between employees and their supervisors and will promote leadership. Volunteering will help strengthen trust and loyalty among customers and will strengthen m-Provise’s image and reputation.
