Morocco imports 96% of its energy and consumption is expected to quadruple by 2030, threatening its energy security. To combat this, Morocco launched a National Energy Strategy in 2009 with goals of developing renewable energies like solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. The report evaluates Morocco's progress towards these goals through large-scale renewable projects and energy efficiency initiatives, finding successes but also opportunities to improve, such as increasing support for local projects and energy conservation. Recommendations are made to help Morocco achieve its goal of generating 42% of energy from renewable sources by 2020.
