Eastman Chemical Company implemented an energy management program to continuously improve energy efficiency and minimize energy impact. As part of this, Building 469 underwent energy efficiency upgrades including more efficient lighting, improved insulation, and occupant involvement to reduce energy use. Through these measures, the building earned the ENERGY STAR label. Eastman's energy management strategy focuses on energy awareness, goals and measures, knowledge sharing, site-wide initiatives, and efficiency projects. The company was named the 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for its strategic energy management efforts.
The Role of Incentives in Advancing Energy Efficiency InitiativesAnne Patenaude
Driving down energy costs through energy efficiency improvements is a key strategy for building owners & managers focused on increasing net operating income. Whether you drivers are lowering utilities, reducing GHG emissions, satisfying a sustainability initiative, or emulating best practices, your investments in energy efficiency will benefit your clients, tenants, and the environment.
The Independent Electricity System Operator recently announced a new six year conservation first framework (CFF) with an objective of reducing electricity consumption by 400 million kilowatt-hours in Hydro Ottawa territory by December 31, 2020 – that’s equivalent to removing about 100 commercial office towers in the downtown core off the grid. Achieving this target means that Building Owners and Managers will receive about $75,000,000 in incentive funding over six years to make investments in energy efficiency -projects more financially attractive.

Energy Audit is a thorough exercise carried out for Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency of Industrial Plants for optimized use of Energy. This is not only important for saving significant production costs but also a environmentally friendly.
Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency are most interchangeably used. However Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency although related terms are quite different. Energy Conservation is about saving energy in the existing system or setup by plugging wastage. Whereas Energy Efficiency is about minor improvements in existing system or replacement of existing equipment within the system by more energy efficient equipment or retrofits which can deliver same output with lesser energy input.
Energy Audit is a highly recommended exercise for manufacturing units as it enables them to gain competitive advantage by cutting down on production costs. Consequently it is also a step in the direction of going green.

My definition of success is helping the people you can help the most and getting rich at the same time. This presentation explains and describes the five key types of people a person can help. It then describes why helping them makes a difference. I identifies five different major areas where people generally need help, Then for each area it identifies and describes specific different ways to help others in life and in business. Helping people allows you to feel good and as you do so you personally and professionally enriched. The reciprocal effects have a positive effect that can change attitudes as well as lives.

Achieving Superior Energy Performance (SEP) - U.S. DOEDQS Inc.
Superior Energy Performance® (SEP), administered by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Manufacturing Office, is a certification program that verifies improvements in energy management and performance in industrial facilities. Industrial facilities can take advantage of SEP tools, resources, and protocols to set energy performance targets and then achieve and measure sustained savings to earn certification at the Silver, Gold, or Platinum level. Nine SEP certified facilities realized $87,000 to $984,000 in annual savings from no-cost or low-cost operational measures and have saved an average of 10% of energy costs within 18 months of implementing SEP.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
