Project MKUltra was a covert CIA research program from 1950-1973 that conducted experiments on human subjects to test the effects of chemical and biological agents, especially LSD. The program aimed to develop mind-control techniques during the Cold War in response to perceived Soviet and Chinese programs. Experiments were conducted on unwitting U.S. and Canadian citizens and caused lasting psychological damage. Though most records were destroyed, some victims were later compensated after the program was exposed in the 1970s.
