Editor's Notes

  • #2 Welcome to the Oxford Bus Company, Thames Travel, and Carousel Buses employee benefits programme! <CLICK> Otherwise known as “the HAPI hub!” We value all of our colleagues. We want to attract the best people and to keep them, to build a better company, so that together we can better serve our customers and stakeholders. We are working in partnership with various providers to offer the best opportunities across a wide range of benefits, all available via a central website hub powered by the HAPI system. So let’s see what’s on offer. <CLICK>
  • #3 Once you have logged on you will receive the “make you happier” greeting. You will see that there are seven major areas on the site, as well as the navigation tools at the top right and the site information links at the bottom left of each screen. We’ll look at each of these seven areas in turn. <CLICK>
  • #4 So first we’ll look at the core benefits. These are the basic benefits directly connected with our employment. Each tile gives an idea of what lies behind but clicking on the tile will then take you to a page that explains the benefit and how to use it. So for example, clicking on the pension tile… <CLICK>
  • #5 … will give details of the auto-enrolment and money-purchase pension schemes. We’ll take look at each of the core benefits now. <CLICK>
  • #6 Pension Under new legislation everyone is auto-enrolled in the pension scheme. Your different contributions levels are added to by contributions from the Company. <CLICK> Death in Service Under the pension schemes a lump sum is paid to your next of kin should the worst happen while you are a member of the scheme. <CLICK> Gym Discount Oxford City Council offers a 37% discounted Fusion membership rate to employees of Oxford Bus Company at their gyms, pools, sports halls and courts, and ice rink. <CLICK> Canteen Subsidised meals are available at Cowley House, with vending machines also available at Queen’s Lane. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 3pm, but the machines are available 24/7. <CLICK> Free Travel Every employee has free travel on all Go Ahead services outside of the TfL area, and family can travel free too. There are also a number of agreements with other bus companies, so check this page first before you travel. <CLICK> Key Benefits Due to the success of the Key travel card in Oxford a number of retailers and attractions offer discounts to our customers. These offers are available to staff too, on production of a key card! <CLICK> Learning & Development Academy Go Ahead, our parent company, offers opportunities for personal and professional development and this online academy is the starting point. Classroom-based learning is also available through the Academy. <CLICK> Discounted Car Hire Enterprise has provided a link that offers discounted car hire at all their branches. The discount is only available by booking the hire online first but any branch can be nominated for pick-up/drop-off. <CLICK>
  • #7 Now we move to Company Information. Here you’ll find information to help you do your job better, and to know what support the company is able to provide. <CLICK>
  • #8 On Board! The staff newsletter is the place to look for all the latest news on the business, our fleet and what our staff have been getting up to, both in and out of work. <CLICK> Policies The most useful policies are available here, including those for maternity and paternity leave, and equal opportunities. Just click on the link to read, download, or print the pdf document. If you need a printed copy and can’t print your own, ask in the traffic office or admin office. <CLICK> Forms Forms for various needs are now available in one place. Again, just click on the link to read, download, or print the pdf. Fill in the form then return it to the traffic office to be forwarded to the appropriate person. <CLICK> Oxford Bus Drivers’ Handbook The handbook is now in pdf format so that you can download it to your device and search more easily for things you need to know. It’s useful even for non-Oxford drivers, to give advice on how to handle similar situations that may arise. <CLICK> Oxford Bus and Thames Travel Ticketing Guide The ticketing guide has been developed to help you provide the best advice you can to our customers on the numerous ticketing options that exist for travel in Oxford City and across Oxfordshire, and to help customers decide what is the right product for them. <CLICK>
  • #9 Here we come to some of the most exciting benefits available. Salary sacrifice schemes help you to make your money go further and benefit from the company’s buying power. <CLICK>
  • #10 What is salary sacrifice? Salary Sacrifice is when you agree to give up part of your salary and in exchange your employer provides you with a non-cash benefit. You usually receive tax and/or National Insurance (NI) savings on the salary given up. As well as the tax and NI savings the cycle and technology schemes are interest free. <CLICK> Cycle Scheme The cycle to work schemes are tax-and-NI free schemes set up by the Government and the Department for Transport to help promote healthier journeys to work and reduce pollution and congestion. Twice a year you will have the opportunity to apply for a new bike via salary sacrifice. <CLICK> Home Technology Our home computer and technology scheme enables you to buy the latest highly desirable products from Apple, Samsung and HP, whilst allowing you to make significant savings via a salary exchange arrangement. Again you will have the opportunity to apply twice a year. <CLICK> Childcare Vouchers Childcare costs can eat up a sizeable chunk of our pay. To help with this, making a salary sacrifice to cover some of the cost can reduce the tax and National Insurance burden. An individual employee can sacrifice up to £243 a month, or £55 a week. <CLICK> Pension Upgrade One you have been a member of the Workplace Savings Section pension scheme for twelve months you can choose to increase your salary sacrifice and this increase is matched by the Company. <CLICK> Sharesave Oxford Bus Company, Thames Travel and Carousel Buses are all part of the Go-Ahead Group plc, one of the leading public transport groups in the UK. Periodically the group runs an employee share-save scheme, which gives staff a tax-efficient way to build up a nest egg. You choose an amount to save direct from your salary and at the end of the scheme you can either have your cash savings back with interest, or become a shareholder in the Go-Ahead Group at a special discounted price - normally set as a 20% discount to the market price at the start of the scheme. <CLICK>
  • #11 A responsible employer is concerned about the health and wellbeing of all staff, both at work and at home. A healthy body can help lead to a healthy mind and a number of these benefits promote good physical and mental wellbeing. <CLICK>
  • #12 Employee Assistance Programme Everyone has times when they could do with a helping hand: finding a plumber, organising a birthday party, advice for handling debts – it could be anything. Face-to-face counselling is also available. Help is at hand from the free, confidential employee helpline. <CLICK> Personal Group Hospital Plan The Personal Group Hospital Plan makes a cash payment to you if you are in hospital overnight - anywhere in the world – and is available when a Personal Group representative visits. <CLICK> Personal Group Death Benefit Plan This insurance can also include partners and children, and covers accidental death benefits. Applications are made direct to Personal Group. <CLICK> Occupational Health Occupational Health services are there to see if anything can be done to help us back to work as quickly as possible. At the very least the OH nurse provides a friendly ear to discuss the progress of treatment in confidence, and to provide guidance to managers on what needs to be done to help. <CLICK> Medical Assessment Under DVLA rules the PCV entitlement after age 45 is subject to a medical assessment every five years, and every year after age 65. The way this is done and the forms needed can be found here. <CLICK> Display Screen User Eyecare Vouchers If you regularly use a computer screen while at work, you are entitled to a free eye test and help with any prescription needed as a result. <CLICK> Cycle Scheme This is the same scheme already mentioned under You Can Save Tax but is here as well to promote healthy living. <CLICK> Health Club Membership As an employee of Oxford Bus, Thames Travel or Carousel Buses, you can save money on a gym membership, even if you are already a member at one of the participating gyms. There are over 2,800 gyms to choose from, all of which will offer you a discounted corporate membership. You are also entitled to a guest pass or trial to view and experience the club prior to joining. <CLICK>
  • #13 Recognition is another way of saying “Thank you!” for a job well done; reward takes that “Thank you!” to another level when the job well done is over and beyond expectation. We say thank you to each other to reinforce the strong team spirit at the heart of our company. <CLICK>
  • #14 Pick a Star The 'Pick a Star' scheme has been introduced to reward those of us who have 'gone the extra mile' to make our customers' journeys sparkle, or to help us do things better. Every month the Pick a Star Committee will review all the nominations received from the public and colleagues, and will elect our 'Star of the Month', who will receive £200 in Love2shop vouchers. <CLICK> Loyalty Bonus and Long Service Awards At Oxford Bus Company, we believe people are our most valuable asset. We want to encourage our best people to stay with us, and our loyalty bonus and long service awards schemes help us to do this. All staff are entitled to a loyalty bonus of £18 for every year of service they give to the company. This isn't paid for the first two years of service, but once three years of service have been completed a payment of £54 is made, with £72 the following year, £90 the year after, and so on. The long service awards scheme exists to honour those staff who give outstanding service of 25 years or more to the company. At each 5 year milestone, these staff and their guests are invited to a special lunch with Directors and Senior Managers. Staff achieving a long service milestone are also awarded CottrillsReward vouchers which can be spent online on a wide variety of products. <CLICK> Refer a Friend We're always on the lookout for great people to join our business and help us grow. One of the best ways for us to find great people is through those who already work with us - our staff! That's why we've introduced our new 'refer-a-friend' scheme, to reward those of you who can introduce us to someone who's a good fit for our organisation. <CLICK>
  • #15 The public service ethos that has brought so many of us to work here also drives our charity work. The generosity of our colleagues towards each other and society at large is supported and promoted by the company. <CLICK>
  • #16 Hardship Fund The Hardship Fund was set up by colleagues for colleagues, and has been successfully running for nearly 20 years. £1.50 a week or £6.50 a month provides a fund, administered by our fellow workers, to help with spectacles, dental work, osteopaths, and retirement or ill-health assistance for our colleagues. <CLICK> Passenger Change We try to ensure we have change available for our customers but sometimes we have to issue change receipts instead. In these instances, customers are able to visit Cowley House or one of our our travel shops and obtain reimbursement for the receipt. If they don’t do this within 12 months, the Company retains the money and donates it to a charity of our choosing. YOU can help us to determine which charity should be the lucky beneficiaries of this cash. <CLICK> Charity Events If you're taking part in a charity event in the near future, why not spread the word amongst your colleagues by getting a mention in On Board! and on the HAPI hub? <CLICK>
  • #17 Everyone wishes their money would go further. With the special offers available here, it really can! <CLICK>
  • #18 My Top Retailers As you use the discounts site the 10 most-used retailers will appear here, giving you quick access to the offers available. <CLICK> Utility Warehouse This is a discount club for home energy, phones, broadband, and mobiles. Which? magazine gives the service a 76% approval rating. <CLICK> Holiday Savings The P&MM travel agency site. As well as the savings available direct from the retailers, this agency lets someone else take the strain and find the discounts for you for your next family holiday. <CLICK> Thousands of offers… This is the main discount site. Get 5% off at Sainsburys, 7% at IKEA, 9% at Argos, and 10% at Boots, plus many, many more. <CLICK>
  • #19 So don’t hesitate. Go to the web address on the leaflet and sign up using your date of birth, postcode, and employee number. And if you’ve not yet passed your driving test, don’t worry. The HAPI hub will be waiting for you as soon as you do.
