FDA STAMP Conference on CNS Shunts Agenda January 1999Stephen Dolle
Conference agenda for the 1999 STAMP Conference on CNS Shunts and anti siphon devices in Bethesda, MD, brought about by patient advocate Stephen Dolle and his efforts with a 1996 petition to FDA on anti siphon shunts. Dolle oddly was not invited to speak or be a panelist, or to have his new mHealth DiaCeph Test included in the conference. In the years since, CNS shunts have suffered significant medical device and design failures, most of which have not been reported to FDA, which Dolle attributes to the cover ups dating back to this conference. As of 2015, Dolle has undergone 12 shunt operations, with the majority of these caused by failing CNS shunts that were never reported to FDA. The more your know!
Public Health Institute of Sport Medicine, Macedonia 1965-2015Vera Simovska
The Public Health Institute of Sports Medicine in Macedonia was established in 1965 to conduct preventative examinations of physically active individuals, maintain health records of over 16,000 registered athletes, and coordinate a national network of 12 sports medicine centers. The Institute works to improve public health and prevent chronic disease through promotion of physical activity and sports, conducting research, treatment, and rehabilitation related to sports and exercise. It focuses on populations from children to older adults and supports both recreational and competitive athletes.
The document discusses the role of public health in complex humanitarian emergencies. It begins with definitions of public health and emergencies. The core functions of public health include assessing health needs, developing response plans, providing services, and ensuring recovery of health systems. The challenges are greater in emergency settings where resources and infrastructure may be destroyed.
This document outlines the scope, objectives, and units of a pathophysiology course for a B.Pharmacy program. The course aims to provide students with knowledge of pathology and pathophysiological mechanisms as it relates to pharmacological applications and safe medical practice. The course is divided into 5 units that cover topics such as cell injury and adaptation, inflammation and repair, cardiovascular, respiratory, and renal systems, hematological and endocrine diseases, nervous system disorders, infectious and sexually transmitted diseases, and more. Upon completing the course, students will be able to describe disease etiology and pathogenesis, identify signs and symptoms, and mention complications.
This document discusses clinical and economic analyses that were conducted on non-medical technologies in Russia. It summarizes two studies: 1) A study analyzing the cost-effectiveness of using diapers to prevent contact dermatitis and pressure ulcers in immobilized patients with urinary incontinence. An economic Markov model was developed and the costs of prevention versus treatment were calculated. 2) A clinical and economic evaluation of physiotherapy technologies that assessed organizational aspects and clinical efficacy. Overall, the document finds that non-drug medical technologies are less rigorously evaluated for efficiency and safety in Russia compared to drug technologies.

Assessment of hospital waste management constraints and related environmental...faysalgcuf
This document summarizes a study assessing hospital waste management constraints and related environmental issues in Faisalabad, Pakistan. The study surveyed 6 hospitals, collecting data on waste generation rates, types of waste generated, segregation practices, and disposal methods. On average, hospitals generated 1.12 kg of waste per bed per day, with 12% being infectious waste. Waste segregation and management practices did not fully comply with WHO standards. Analysis found heavy metals like zinc and lead in incinerator ash. Overall, the study found that hospital waste management in Faisalabad is inadequate and does not have an effective policy to address related environmental and health issues.
This document provides the calendar plan and content for a module on general pathology taught to third-year medical students. Assessment will be based on a student's current educational activity, theoretical knowledge, and practical skills demonstrated during and after the module.
This document summarizes a study on the state of pro- and antioxidant systems in patients with mild brain contusion (MBC). The study found that levels of malonic aldehyde, an indicator of lipid peroxidation, remained normal on the first day but increased by over 38% by the fifth day. Catalase activity, which defends against free radicals, initially increased but then decreased, indicating weakening antioxidant protection over time. Glutathione and sulfhydryl levels, also part of antioxidant defenses, rose slightly at first but then fell sharply. Ceruloplasmin activity followed a similar pattern, initially rising but then decreasing significantly. The findings reveal patterns of increasing oxidative stress and weakening antioxidant systems in the days

These lecture slides, by Dr Sidra Arshad, offer a quick overview of the physiological basis of a normal electrocardiogram.
Learning objectives:
1. Define an electrocardiogram (ECG) and electrocardiography
2. Describe how dipoles generated by the heart produce the waveforms of the ECG
3. Describe the components of a normal electrocardiogram of a typical bipolar lead (limb II)
4. Differentiate between intervals and segments
5. Enlist some common indications for obtaining an ECG
6. Describe the flow of current around the heart during the cardiac cycle
7. Discuss the placement and polarity of the leads of electrocardiograph
8. Describe the normal electrocardiograms recorded from the limb leads and explain the physiological basis of the different records that are obtained
9. Define mean electrical vector (axis) of the heart and give the normal range
10. Define the mean QRS vector
11. Describe the axes of leads (hexagonal reference system)
12. Comprehend the vectorial analysis of the normal ECG
13. Determine the mean electrical axis of the ventricular QRS and appreciate the mean axis deviation
14. Explain the concepts of current of injury, J point, and their significance

Local Advanced Lung Cancer: Artificial Intelligence, Synergetics, Complex Sys...Oleg Kshivets
Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).

8 Surprising Reasons To Meditate 40 Minutes A Day That Can Change Your Life.pptxHolistified Wellness
We’re talking about Vedic Meditation, a form of meditation that has been around for at least 5,000 years. Back then, the people who lived in the Indus Valley, now known as India and Pakistan, practised meditation as a fundamental part of daily life. This knowledge that has given us yoga and Ayurveda, was known as Veda, hence the name Vedic. And though there are some written records, the practice has been passed down verbally from generation to generation.
