The US Embassy in Buenos Aires thanks members of Congress for their interest in the P5+1 negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program. On behalf of Secretary John Kerry, the United States Embassy in Buenos Aires extends
its gratitud e for your interest in the P5+ 1 negotiations with Iran. We share your view that these
discussions are of global importance. We appreciate your willingness to share your perspectives
of Argentina's experience with Iran and we note your concems.
The EU and the P5+ 1 spent more than ayear on negotiations before agreeing on the
framework for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) announced on April 2. Through
the JCPOA the global cornrnunity will ensure that lran cannot acquire the fissile material to
construct a nuclear weapon and that its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful. Iran has agreed
to reduce two-thirds of its installed centrifuges and to redesign its heavy-water research reactor
under intemational oversight. The United States will be part ofthe group that improves the new
designo .
The JCPOA will subject lran to the most comprehensive inspection and transparency
requirements ever negotiated for any country's nuclear program, ensuring detection ofpossible
secret pathways to a nuclear weapon. Additionally, Iran will be required to address the concems
of the lAEA. Sanctions will not be reduced until lran has taken steps to meet JCPOA
requirements and the lAEA has verified lran's cooperation.
This framework and our other work seeks to reduce a grave threat to intemational
security peacefully. It also advances the goals ofP5+ 1 and Argentina to promote a global
nonproliferation regime. 1welcorne your continued input. The intemational community

commitments and be a good global citizen.
