Elizabeth Blackwell was born in 1821 in Bristol, England and died in 1910 at age 89. She was the first woman to graduate from medical school in the United States and went on to open a medical school for women in the late 1860s, making her a pioneering figure who helped make medicine a field open to women and inspired many to pursue careers as doctors.
