This document discusses various Islamic rules and practices regarding purity (taharat) in Islam. It outlines two main types of impurities - physical impurities (najasat haqeeqi) like urine, blood, etc. and legal impurities (najasat hukmi) that require ablution (wudu) or bathing (ghusul). It provides details on proper ways of cleaning oneself with istinja after using the bathroom as well as proper conduct. Psychology is a scientific field that studies behavior. It possesses a body of facts supported by principles and laws, emphasizes searching for truth through objective investigation and controlled experiments, and helps predict future developments by applying theories. However, psychology is not perfectly objective like natural sciences due to studying dynamic and unpredictable human behavior. Therefore, psychology is considered a "developing positive science" rather than a fully developed positive science like physics or chemistry.
This document outlines several principles of development:
1) Development is most rapid in early ages, both physically and mentally, with the greatest growth and learning occurring in infancy and early childhood.
2) Development follows a principle of continuity, being a lifelong process that occurs gradually through conception, life, and death.
3) While development is continuous, the rate is not uniform, with changes sometimes being slow and gradual and other times more rapid and noticeable, such as growth spurts in height or sudden interests.
Piaget was a Swiss biologist who developed a theory of cognitive development in children. He believed that children's thought processes are qualitatively different from adults and that early cognitive development involves processes of assimilation and accommodation through interactions with the environment. Piaget identified 4 key stages of cognitive development: sensory-motor (birth to age 2) where intelligence is demonstrated through senses and actions; pre-operational thought (age 2 to 7) where symbolic thought and language develop; concrete operational stage (age 7 to 11) where logical and systematic thought emerges; and formal operational stage (age 11 onward) where abstract and hypothetical thought and reasoning ability reach maturity.
Chinua Achebe's novel Things Fall Apart depicts the late 19th century clash between traditional Igbo culture in Nigeria and European colonialism. Achebe founded a Nigerian literary movement that drew from oral traditions to counter European narratives portraying Africa as primitive. The novel details Igbo customs and institutions before colonization, showing a sophisticated society. It follows Okonkwo, a respected warrior, as Christian missionaries undermine traditions and Igbo culture begins to dissolve. Achebe combines Igbo and Western references to demonstrate the conflict between tradition and imposed change, highlighting colonialism's negative impacts on African civilization.
This document provides tips for effective non-verbal communication and presentation skills. Some key points include conveying confidence without being loud, using visual aids to reinforce messages, maintaining eye contact with the audience, and practicing presentations to ensure a smooth delivery that keeps the audience engaged. Effective presentations recognize that communication has both intellectual and emotional aspects.

This short story is about a king who complained about the rough roads hurting his feet after a long trip. He ordered his people to cover all the roads in the country with leather to fix the problem. However, one wise servant suggested simply cutting a small piece of leather to cover the king's feet instead of spending huge resources to cover all the roads. The king realized this was a better solution. The moral is that it is better to change yourself rather than trying to change the entire world.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
