Magnetorheological fluids are smart materials that can quickly change from a free-flowing liquid to a semi-solid based on the application of a magnetic field. These fluids are made of ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic particles suspended in a carrier fluid. When exposed to a magnetic field, the particles form chains that link together and enable the fluid to rapidly develop controllable yield strength and modulus.
