Exposure of E-Commerce in business sectors is unique from one to another and
according to activities which the business is engaged in. With the restless and stressful
life style of people, it has become the most successful solution in order to maintain
distance relationships with customer without making a necessity to visit sales outlets.
It helped people to save their time consumed on commodity and service requirements
while improving the level of service in the business organization. Application of e-
commerce in business environment has expand from simple buying and selling
businesses to sensitive business activities such as banking transactions, hotel and air
ticket reservations. Those business sectors were described as “sensitive” industries
since values of financial transactions are comparatively greater than business
transactions in retail business activities. Even though the above concept has
established worldwide in greater scale and majority was accepted, there are also a
greater percentage of people who reluctant to change into global business
environment considering the factor of risk in business transaction. Some of the
benefits of using e-commerce business transactions are less consumption of time,
business owners can increase of the margin of profit since cost of intermediary
activities such as advertising, inventory maintenance and employee cost will be
reduced, customers can directly contact with business owners and negotiate for
transactions and also the business transaction can be customized according to their
requirements. However, there is a prime disadvantage to customer in e-commerce
application since they are not allowing a physical experience in of the product prior to
purchase of the same. Stated problem has mainly effected on trading activities of
commodities. Other than the above web site hackers and computer viruses are also
played major role in discouraging people for e-commerce business transactions.
During evaluations of e-commerce applications, it was observed that there is a greater
potentiality to establish as an online business in tourism business. Considering
intensity of domestic as well as global community to release work life stress and the
interest on exploring other countries, other cultures has become the above business as
profitable and more attractive business sector. When observing popular travel and
4. booking web sites such as Agoda.com, Trip advisor, Booking.com and Expedia.com it
was observed that those web sites are more concern on reservation of hotels since it is
the most important requirement of travelers. Proposed e-commerce business
application has prepared for hotel reservation activities as well as other value
additions. Proposed e-commerce web site will be facilitate with providing of
information in tourist attractive environment and ancient locations, locating and
booking transportation requirements near to hotels, banks and ATM locator, and other
required locators such as super markets, hospitals, post offices, famous restaurants
and also authorized currency exchange dealers in the area. Main intention of the
proposed e-commerce business application is to satisfy different requirements of
tourists at one point. It will be a total package of reservation and also more
convenience business package to customers who will visit Sri Lanka.
Government of Sri Lanka has decided to promote Sri Lanka as a tourist hub in South
Asia and also it has become one of the favorite destination in the world for tourists.
As per to statistics from the ministry of tourism, there were more than 1.5Mn tourists
visited Sri Lanka and also expecting to be increased further. Further, the government
has also implemented a project to improve individual residences in the country as
tourist’s reservations and the proposed web application will be a great advantage to
promote individual locations for tourists. Considering the government intention to
develop tourism in Sri Lanka, propose business plan has great opportunity to success
in short period of time. Main focus of the proposed business plan is to attract
international tourists who visit Sri Lanka and domestic people who intend travel in
different parts of the country. During the preparation of proposed business plan, there
was a consideration on the sustainability of business during the off season of tourists.
Introduction of diversified packages such as booking hospitals and channeling
doctors, booking of cab services will maintain the income of the business in off
season period.
Implementation of proposed business plan will be a great opportunity to execute since
it is not observed an e-commerce business application which provides total business
package. However, it is accepted that there will be a potential threat from world
recognized web sites such as “Agoda” and “Trip adviser”. However, proposed total
package will be an advantage over those web sites since locations of domestic
business points such as hospitals, banks, ATMs and cab services will be more
5. accurately point out than those foreign web applications. Even though the proposed
application will compete with those international web sites with quality, there is a
threat of marketing Sri Lankan e-commerce application since the proposed application
will be mainly focus on Sri Lankan hotels and other services and it is difficult to
approach international coverage of total package considering unawareness of
locations in foreign countries. The purpose of the proposed e-commerce application is
to provide the best booking and information application in Sri Lanka.
Commerce
Commerce is refers to sale of product or service on a website if the website is
intended for commercial transactions. Then it has to be secure, safe and also user
information has to be kept private. And also it has to be communicated to other
customers that the using website is safe, to indicate that most websites use a “lock”
symbol in the corner to indicate that it has been encrypted. It is considered that all
electronic sites should facilitate registration to store information, preferences that’s
mean it enable the registration of a user and allow to store all the information about
credit cards, where the shipping items should delivered, shopping cart to hold items
which preferred by the customers, security, instant credit card approval, order
tracking, delivery options and affiliate link transaction database. This is simply refers
to the ability of the website to perform online transactions.
When a website performing online transactions, they can facilitate more payment

through several systems. It can be done through Google Analytics. The basic process
for tracking ecommerce using Google Analytics can do in three steps. Very first step
is to create a transaction object. It supports to stores all the related information about a

The second step is to Add items to the transaction. It is a method that tracks details
about each individual item in the user's shopping cart and associates the item with

reservations, how to contact our travel agents etc. some other videos can be created
for the customers to visually get an idea about the experience they would get if they
decide to start their holiday journey with us. For example, videos on the list of hotels

and the places they visited etc.
Another method could be to create accounts through instagram with every customer
that have joined with us for their holiday plan in Sri Lanka and to keep them updates
with the latest news and other services that we would offer them. Pictures could be
uploaded, which would let see what our latest updates are so they can compare the
difference of how it was previously and the change we had made. Comments from
customers that have already joined with us also can be a technique to provide
information for the customers who use our website for the first time, as they would
get to view the feedback of customers.
The use of proper and meaningful text is essential for a customer to get an idea and to
picture the type of services that we are offering to our customers. If the text and
description on the site are being changed frequently, it will affect the consistency of
the content, therefore the text used has to be always focused and it has to be fit for the
purpose of the customer. Since our website is related to travel, the terms used has to
be attractive and should create a sense of excitement in the minds of the customer.
