Soren Kierkegaard was a 19th century Danish philosopher, theologian, poet and social critic. He was educated at the University of Copenhagen where he studied philosophy and theology. Though he was engaged to be married, he broke off the engagement claiming he was unfit for marriage. Kierkegaard made significant contributions to philosophy and religious thought through his writings exploring concepts like the individual, truth, faith and existentialism. He advocated that the individual is important and has free will to make their own choices and determine their path in life.
